Photo by Seth Tisue "I'm going to a place where the women have nothing on / but the radio." Ever the deceptive guy, that Jim O'Rourke . But Eureka 's "Happy Holidays" - at 1:37, a trifle of a song - finds the musician/producer at his most naked. Back by two guitars, he eschews his usual precise picking in favor of a more emotional approach, strumming away as he cuts loose with a rare falsetto. Jim O'Rourke - "Happy Holidays": mp3 [...]

I was just re-reading a few of the lads' previous efforts and happened across Tiny Dancer's posting of his first Uncut cd and it reminded me of my first one as well. Unconditionally Guaranteed Volume 5 from June 1999. I remember this cd immensely well as it came at a time when I was immersed in the world of Legend Of Zelda – Ocarina Of Time and I can't hear any of the songs on it without thinking about that game. I was feeling nostalgic about it a few months ago and bought a Wii specifically for the new Zelda [...]

Been listening to this Jim O'Rourke song a lot recently. It's about having one night to live, bringing a girl home and then finding out you didn't pick very well (well, that's what it's about on the surface anyway). Seeing as how that's pretty much how I feel everytime I bring a girl home, I find it pretty relatable. Anyways, Jim is always great so if you haven't ever heard his stuff before you should listen. I also threw in a song off the Halfway to a Threeway EP that is possibly one of [...]
Remember how I asked you guys for your favorite love songs a few weeks back? Well, some shit went down and the love song list is going to have to wait. Instead, and perhaps more interestingly, I've compiled my favorite all-time break-up records: albums both about breaking up and albums to listen to during and after. As usual, these are my personal favorites and it's by no means an attempt at an objective list - thus the conspicuous absence of Fleetwood Mac and Blood On The Tracks , which would actually be on here if I hadn't forgetten about [...]

The picture you see above is my unused ticket to see The White Stripes last night. Unused because I have spent the last two days puking my guts up and emptying my bowels out. Not nice to say the least. Whether it was a bug or food poisoning, I don't know. What I do know is that it was enough to stop me from seeing Jack and Meg which i am gutted about. Currently I'm feeling about 67% better. Just very low on energy and strength. However, it isn't going to [...]
I just got back from seeing Pan's Labyrinth , and let me tell you - that movie is a total laugh riot! With all the brutality and bloodshed and death, it's amazing anybody could leave the movie theater smiling. Oh, wait...I meant to type, "It's the most depressing movie I've seen in ages." I did laugh a lot watching Lindsey continually squirm through torture scenes. On a scale of ONE-to-BLOOD, I rate this movie BLOOD. It begged for the tagline, "A flood of blood bloodier than any blood bled before." Hey, Sunday Mix Tape! [...]

A well-placed comma will always make a song title more impressive. I don't know why more bands don't use them. If musicians want to convince me that their songs are worth my times, they should insert more commas. Boris - Six, Three Times "Six, Three Times" is one of the coolest things I've heard this year, and I have absolutely no idea what they are singing about. I think I hear English. I'm going to assume it's a hymn to [...]

Jesus Christ, I guess I have to post. Even Ohmygodimmike posted (how are you doing by the way?) so it is obviously all on me now. Ok, there's an election here in my country in exactly 11 days. I have no idea what to vote for. Unlike you guys I have a few more options. ( Which is weird since you live in a country where you can choose between something like 3 5948 brands of cereal, but only two presidents.) One political party hacked into the socialdemocrats' intranet. It's called a SPY SCANDAL. Yes, we have [...]

We're continuing to slack around here at Shake Your Fist and have invited yet another guest blogger to do our work for us. But with guests this good, how can you possibly object? Jeannette Ordas is the talent behind the food blog Everybody Likes Sandwiches (which isn't, just to be clear, exclusively about sandwich making). I love Everybody Likes Sandwiches for lots of reasons, but if I had to pick three I'd say, 1) fabulous recipes, 2) writing [...]
