From the mysterious foreshadowing of what's soon to come to new love, lies, and life - Breaking Bad Season 2 will leave you confused, anxious, restless, and yet itching for more every week. A friend of mine in college turned me on to JJ Cale as the dude who wrote a bunch of Clapton tunes. All these years later, his name stands all by itself. The man can sure pen a tune, but his guitar is no slouch either.
Two string masters make genuinely beautiful music together.

"He don't move, he don't flinch, Clyde he don't move an inch..." If I had to pick one character from a song to trade places with, it would probably be J.J. Cale's Clyde . "Just sits on the porch without no shoes, picking his bass and singing the blues..." That's the life. J.J. Cale - Clyde MP3

Jenny O recently joined the Manimal Vinyl family, releasing her new album Home on the West Coast friendly imprint. We wanted to know what tunes she's been digging and Ms. O said she spent 2010 listening mostly to 1970s music. So we asked her for a "best of" the most prominent year in her record collection. We present Jenny O's Best of 1971: David Bowie -- Hunky Dory www.youtube.com/watch?v=v--Iqq usnNQ [...]
I hope you have arisen from your food comas and have come to this website in search of good humor. Because that's what I plan to ejaculate into your eyes today as I prepare my annual "What's Evan Thankful For?" list. If you're wondering how my Thanksgiving holiday went, don't bother. It started with a late-night drinking session with Pat and Nate on Wednesday at some East Side dive bars, and continued early Thursday morning with more booze and football. The booze propelled me through the day and - in the company of some friends - guided me safely into [...]
So last night I had the luxury of attending Pretty Lights at House of Blues in Boston. While the venue didn't particular cater to their unreal light show, the set was still everything I would have hoped it to be and more. Every time I see Derek and Adam perform it's honestly like a roller coaster ride. Aside from a brief intermission to say what's up to the crown and the gap between the main set and the encore, it really is just one continuous stream of absolute ear candy. This was the first time I attended a concert by [...]
An understated, rich, rewarding gem that no one's ever heard. Unfortunately, since few blues fans venture outside the tried-and-true territory of old black men rocking the house Chicago style or... Download your favourite album at The Mood Indicator

A few weeks ago, I was playing The Clash's Combat Rock in the record store (where I work). When the song "Straight to Hell" came on, the clerk I was working with gave me a look and said something along the lines of "I didn't think you liked MIA" (in reference to MIA's song "Paper Planes", which features a sample of "Straight to Hell"). For the record, I don't like MIA, but I quickly corrected her as to what it was we were listening to. She responded, "Ah, I knew it sounded familiar, but the tempo was different." This got [...]

I bet if you ingested J.J. Cale's Crazy Mama and chased it with Spiritualized's All of My Tears you'd wake up the next morning still feeling pretty good.
Some good old fashioned 1-4-5 blues from a great songwriter with a chilled out style. Skynard might have made this one famous years later, but I'll take JJ's chilled out original anyday.

Filed under: News , New Music Eric Clapton may be god in his fans' eyes, but the famed rocker doesn't care much for his own singing. On his 19th solo album , 'Clapton', which is due late next month, the 'Layla' legend reveals he's trying to make himself more tolerable by singing "quietly." "I hate my singing. I don't like the way I sing," Clapton told Mojo . "It all sounds like I'm 16 years old [...]
At 65, Eric Clapton is at the official retirement age but thankfully Slowhand is in no hurry to slow down. From facilitating the Crossroads Guitar Festival each year (video after the jump) to high-profile live tours with Steve Winwood and Jeff Beck to collaborations with B.B. King and J.J. Cale , Clapton now adds another chapter in his own solo album output with the simply titled Clapton , due September 28. An eclectic mix of styles, from country blues to [...]
