Though he's undoubtedly best known for his iconic poetry, William Carlos Williams is also the author of some particularly good short stories, including today's selection, "The Use of Force." Williams spent part of his younger years as a pediatrician, eventually chronicling his experiences in several pieces of short fiction. "The Use of Force" is ostensibly about one such experience, but Williams' obvious gift for storytelling and ability to turn life's details into grander social commentary make the story about so much more than a doctor's visit.
