Jónsi Þór Birgisson of Sigur Rós has begun to reveal his new solo album side project. He's not giving much away at the moment but I'm sure all will become clear in due course. An uncharacteristically effervescent new song called "Boy lilikoi" surfaced today from Jónsi 's mysterious forthcoming solo album, which may be called Go. Or it may not. This is speculation on my part based on what the track tag says in my iTunes. The Sigur Rós front man is singing in English these days, at least on most of this song, and the album features arrangement collaborations with composer Nico Mulhy . Sigur Rós's Jónsi Birgisson has a solo album on the way titled Go , which the band's site mentions "will be largely acoustic and feature string arrangements from contemporary classical composer Nico Muhly." "Boy Lilikoi" is the first track to trickle down from Jonsi's upcoming solo LP, and what do you know, he's singing in English! The whole album is a collaboration with composer Nico Muhly, and on this track, at least, Muhly and Jonsi have created a very sunny, spaceous song, with Jonsi's faintly ethereal voice underlined mainly by bright, fluttering percussion. Sigur Rós band leader is taking yet more time off from his main band. He released the Riceboy Sleeps with his other half Alex album this year, and is set to release a solo album in Spring 2010. Jónsi is currently working on a new solo album that will feature predominantly acoustic music and string arrangements from classical composer Nico Muhly.
