With A Little Help From My Friends - Joe Cocker Getting Better - The Wedding Present She's Leaving Home - Billy Bragg Within You Without You - Patti Smith Music MP3 music
I know what you're thinking. Anyone with so much as a shred of taste is going to be pretty convinced at this stage that dear, silly old Mr Toad has utterly lost his marbles. What next, you'll be thinking, Dire Straits? Well, don't speak too soon. Actually, you're quite right. Joe Cocker is by and large a big, fat, bearded monument to dire, pompous, turgid garbage. Some of his 80s material had the saving grace of being amusingly bad, rather than just bad, but by and large I think that when we think [...]
I'm feeling rather Beatlesy today, hopefully you are too. [MP3] Joe Crocker - With A Little Help From My Friends Probably one of the more famous Beatle covers, Mr. Raspy Voice himself rearranged this Ringo gem in a fashion that added an entirely new layer of depth to the song. Having a voice that is the polar opposite of Starr's is one way to grab a listener's attention, but Cocker's dramatic instrumentation, gospel influenced back-up singers, and guitar lines contributed by Jimmy Page [...]

Well, it's happening again. Another fab-o collabo as The Duke from The Late Greats and I present 20 Covers That Are Better Than The Originals. I'm almost prepared to say this is 20 Covers That Are Than The Originals, Volume 1 because lord knows there are many more than 20 cover songs that are better than the originals. One must start somewhere and so, we present this list. There are no sacred cows here. We say fuck you to some of the [...]
At one point or another I devoted an immense amount of attention, in some form or another, to each of these songs. I can't rightly tell you if I was obsessed with the thirteenth song I heard in March and I am not able to say if the tenth song is better than the [...]
This morning I rose from the ashes of a two-month hibernation to discover -- in addition to a damp mattress -- that I've been transplanted to a cattle ranch in the plains of southern Oregon. Still trying to figure out who or what is responsible for shipping me out here. Impressive. In the meantime, the world and I have a lot of catching up to do. Lots of stuff going on out there, but the one headline really choked me up concerned the impending incarceration of my beloved soul flower, Warren Jeffs . [...]
Billy Preston, the man with the golden resume passed away at the age of 59 yesterday. Probably best known for his work with the Beatles, the organ wizard performed alongside some the best known names in music. With the Stones he jammed on the rollicking “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking†blues standout from Sticky Fingers . He wrote Joe Cocker’s biggest hit, “You are so Beautiful.†Preston appeared on a plethora of classic albums, George Harrison’s post Beatles purge All Things Must Pass , the Rolling Stones’ Exile on [...]
Billy Preston has passed away at age 59. Born September 9, 1946 in Houston, Texas, he was one of those amazing musicians that toured and recorded with just about everybody and was loved by all who knew him, performed with or enjoyed his music. He died in Scottsdale, Arizona after a long illness that lead to respiratory failure and left him in a coma for months. He was also known as the fifth Beatle because of his keyboard work on the White Album, Abbey Road and Let It Be. [...]
