Joe Dassin - Le Jardin de Luxembourg Salut les Amoureux "Like many Russians, Olga adored Joe Dassin, especially the songs on his last album, with their resigned, lucid melancholy. Jed shivered, feeling an irrepresible crisis coming on, and when he remembered the words of "Hello Lovers" he began to cry." --Michel Houllebecq

Quebecois singer Coeur De Pirate, aka Beatrice Martin, just came out with a quality acoustic cover of The Weeknd's song "Wicked Games." It's a refreshing contrast to the more rock-heavy sound we typically asosciate with The Weeknd - Martin gives it a rawer, bare-bones feel. It's engaging enough that you end up surprised she only uses a piano as her entire accompaniment - honestly, it sounds like a Casio or, at best, a tinny standup. The track also represents one of her few English language songs; for the most part she sings in French. "Brutal Hearts," a collaboration with Bedouin [...]

good songs are songs that made you smile in the very first time you heard it, not just because you played it over and over again. 10cc - Things We Do For Love Joe Dassin - Les Champs Elysees America - Ventura Highway

Big shoutout to Alberto Contador for being superhuman. I'd also like to note how righteous and civilized it is when racers spend the final day of a three-week bicycle race riding slowly along, smiling, chatting, and sipping Champagne with their rivals. Watching the final stage of the Tour de France yesterday, I could not get this song by American(!) Joe Ira Dassin out of my head. Not that I really wanted to. Joe Dassin - Les Champs-Élysées [...]

I went out and bought the soundtrack from Wes Andersons The Darjeeling Limited the other day and I was soooooo excited to find it in the 15th JB HiFi that I'd looked in for it! Yet after the 2nd song I was somewhat naively surprised to find a full on bollywood Indian song, and then another, and another and so on until you eventually run into some Kinks and one Stones song. Now after investing 26 damn dollars into something I fully know I could have got off the net for free I bit my lip [...]
Playlist du 27 mars au 3 avril... Cela commence par un murmure ("Never Let me Go" de Stacey Kent).

Photography by colddanfeettan Such a lovely chill soundtrack... and I really enjoyed the movie to boot! Expectations were low given the mixed things I was hearing, so when we rode our bikes up to the Drexel Gateway that night a couple weeks back, we were both pleasantly surprised. Dry humor (of course), a very simple & linear story line, and a whole bunch of Indian flavor? Perfect little date night... [...]
If you haven't noticed, the Canals have been on a bit of a break from posting. Two weeks to be exact. School seems to have gotten the best of us. But that doesn't mean we haven't been thinking about you guys. I saw The Darjeeling Limited last weekend, and I've been on a Kinks kick ever since. Here are two songs from the soundtrack and a few other of my favorite tracks of the past 14 days. The Kinks - Strangers Download audio file [...]
