Zaac Pick is an emerging talent in the Canadian indie-folk scene. Former guitarist of the indie rock group Doubting Paris, Pick first earned critical acclaim as a solo artist for his 2009 debut EP, Fierce Wind , including the top selection in Vancouver's Shore 104FM Song Search, as well as spots in various television shows. Now, after two years of touring (including a double header at SXSW this year), he has released a new four-track EP, Whitewater . Whitewater shows off Pick's knack for melody, pairing his warm, expressive voice with layers [...]

BAM! Bet you were expecting a Best of 2011 list, yeah? Well I don't got time for that (YET)! No...this is where I acknowledge all the great stuff I missed in 2010. 'Cause it doesn't get any more rock n roll than to talk about shit that's over a year old. Write that down in your How to Be Rock N Roll notebooks. Anyway, the last time I wrote this list , I spent quite a while talking about how there isn't enough time in one year to listen to all the potentially great releases and put [...]
On a new episode of This Week In Music , Brian Klien , the manager of Joe Purdy and Fitz & The Tantrums (pictured left) joins Ian Rogers to talk about using the new models and tools to find each of his clients unique path to success. There's a lot of great information in this interview, but be sure pay attention 28 minutes in when Rogers asks Klein about earnings from Spotify and his doubts regarding it's importance to Purdy's career. Live review of Joe Purdy playing at Brighton Music Hall.

It's Friday – I've made it, just. All the sprats are very different, adorably different and utterly adorable. This week, Joe (the youngest at seven) has re-cast himself as one travelling troubadour. Guitar in hand, he travels as far as the living room, sometimes to the kitchen to perform his self-penned tunes, all strummed in G. From Try and Love Me If You Can (who could not love you, Joe?), to How Many Toys do You Have? to My Soldiers Are Dead and Down , and the classic in the making, Come [...]

Joe Purdy is a storyteller armed with immense musical talent — a crucial combination for a folk-based singer-songwriter. With emotionally driven lyrics that speak of loved ones, old friends, and running away (amongst other things), his songs always manage to strike a chord with me. On Sunday, he performed a brooding set that left the Horseshoe crowd completely satisfied. Opening for Purdy were his touring companions, The Milk Carton Kids . Although this two piece band is only six weeks old, I was still impressed by their set and felt their music set the tempo for [...]

For about 10 years now, Arkansas native Joe Purdy has steadily released album after album of solid -- and at times, spectacular -- folk music. Most recently, though, with his two 2010 releases, ... There is a campfire in the White Mountains of Arkansas. The sun is going down and a cool breeze comes up from the west. The sky turns hues of red and purple as the day ends and twilight begins. Couples huddle around the fire, drinks in hand, as the evening winds down. Joe Purdy pulls out his six-string, puts on a harmonica holder and sits down with the gathered campers. He sings and plays fifteen passionate, contemplative, folk songs that reach into the soul. Purdy is a modern day early 1960's Bob Dylan with [...]

Five years ago I moved out of the San Francisco Bay Area for the snowy, crisp mountains of Colorado. I absolutely love my adopted home, our vibrant music scene, and the fresh air here, but no foolin' I do often long for my hometown hills. Over the holidays I went to San Francisco for a week to stay at the Noe Valley apartment of friends who were out of town and graciously let me "housesit." It was a part of town I had never stayed in before. When I first let myself into their empty place on [...]

When I first mentioned the Neil Young Carnegie Hall Tribute back in October, the lineup had not been announced, let alone finalized. With the show only a few weeks away ( Feb 10, 2011 ), here's what the confirmed all-star lineup looks like so far: The Music Of Neil Young is scheduled for February 10th with an all-star list of invited artist set to pay tribute to Neil Young at Carnegie Hall. This will be the 7th Carnegie Hall tribute and confirmed to pay homage to the immortal Young are: Patti Smith [...]

Seems like this time of year everyone is making a list of some sort. Worst this and best that. We wanted in on that action. You've been waiting, longing even, to hear our opinions, we know, it's ok. To keep it short: 2010 didn't suck. Here are Three Grown Men's favorite moments of 2010: Jonathan Kosakow's top musical moments of 2010 3. Joe Purdy – "4th of July" I stumbled upon Joe Purdy by [...]
