Good to see some friends last night at Twist. Special thanks to Eagle Rock Bowling & Drinking Club, All Star Lanes, CGT, and all the bands for putting together such a great night and of course Mary Monolator for the phat snacks. Photos up. F Yeah Fest isn't just a festival. It's an exercise in patience and benevolence. We all know it isn't very organized. We all know we won't probably be able
Today's playlist is all about licensing. Popular opinion states that most musicians with record deals and blogosphere buzz are rich. This is very rarely the case and many struggle to break even in their artistic endeavors. Since AM/FM is no longer a viable vehicle for people to hear real music created by real musicians, many indie artists (and major label established artists alike), have turned to licensing both as a way to make ends meet in an environment where their core product (records) does not generate income and as a way to get their music to the [...]
I was searching my brain for something uber-fantastico to post on today and I ended up going through some of our old posts in the process. It seems I made a promise to give you guys some more Joe Purdy a few months ago and never came through. My apologies, I'm not quite certain how Joe slipped through the cracks. He's solidified his place on my playlists but somehow I neglected to pass on the good word. Well, never fear - here's the promised post on Joe - enjoy! [...]
Believe it or not, we are not the only ones who write about music. In fact, after doing a bit of research, it turns out that there are dozens (if not HUNDREDS) of blogs dedicated to music on the internets. And so, long live the guest post: Today I've got commercials on the brain, so we're [...]
Day 2 : Can't Get It Right Today by Joe Purdy [See post to listen to track] Can't Get It Right Today.mp3 (right click to save) I just can't seem to get it right today I just can't seem to get it right today I just can't seem to get it right today I guess I'm gonna give up Oh, I guess I'm gonna give up It's nearly been a year since he's been gone And we still sing [...]
joe purdy - can't seem to get it right today [ link 2 ] [there's nothing like a good simple song used in a car ad to bring attention to a wonderfully talented singer/songwriter. with seven albums under his belt, joe purdy has found a wider net of fans by getting his music placed on various tv shows including lost, greys anatomy and house; now he can add advertising success under his belt. there's something about the sweet melancholia of joe's music that draws you in instantly (heck, they're running the ad way beyond the usual time [...]

I know it's been said, but it's becoming harder and harder for artists to get heard through the traditional medium (radio). Over the past few years we've seen some bands strike gold after they've had a song featured on prime-time dramas like Grey's Anatomy and ER. Commercials seem to be helping bands nearly as much these days. This week's Six Pack focuses on a few of the songs that I've been humming along to during the breaks. Enjoy! [...]
I'm not big on the whole Valentine's Day lovefest that so many people enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I'm big on LOVE it's just that whether I'm coupled or single, the holiday itself always seems a bit too cliched to tell you the truth. It just makes no sense to me. Why spend just one day a year doing what we should all be
Radio Sucks! But you already now that, that's why you're here. So in this age of crappy, mainstream radio and low record sales, artists are finding new ways to get their music out to the people. Only a select few of us have the privilege of knowing about the world of music blogs (judging from my number of page hits, i've got about 3 loyal readers out of those select few). Many of these relatively smaller artists are using TV commercial spots as a gateway. Here are some of my favorite songs used in recent commercials: [...]
I had every intention to post this song tomorrow for the Commercial Thursday post, but after downloading the song from eMusic , it got stuck in my head. It became the most played song this week. Not to mention, I learned how to play it on the mandolin (yep, Joe, I said mandolin). Upon further study of Joe Purdy , turns out he is often used on the TV, whether commercials or as background for TV shows (specifically on ABC ). After Hype Machining him, I [...]
I've always held a special place in my heart for boys that make noise. There's something alluring and endearing about a man who can share himself in song. Here are tracks from the seventeen (plus one) troubadours that got me twitterpated in 2007… Fionn Regan - "Be Good or Be Gone" Landon Pigg - "Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop" Joshua James - "You're the Cocaine" Eric Hutchinson - "Ok,
Apologies for the delay in posting, but I think you'll agree that this post is worth the 7-day wait. After listening to two albums by Joe Purdy back-to-back, without skipping a single song, I figured something good was happening. So, of course, I ordered seven albums. What do you mean, obsessive music personality? Something about his lyrics got under my skin. Quite a lot of his music is similar - gently-strummed guitars, a little piano, and his falsetto vocals. But he has the ability to produce lyrics that stop you in your tracks; that leave a wistful smile [...]
I suppose it was bound to happen that I would come up empty handed on the Grey's song front at some point but I'm sincerely bummed that it did. Last week the song "Pouring on the Gasoline" by Calahan played and I've no idea where to get my hands on it. It's a first and hopefully and only. So...if you happen to have a copy of the song and want to hook up all the Grey's fans, let me know. In

I was recently talking to a merch guy at the Bluebird, and was stoked to find out that CU Denver has a neat-looking degree program in Music Industry Studies with their very own student-run record label. Equally cool are the breadth of courses offered at Berklee (not Berkeley) School of Music . I always thought Berklee (in Boston) was just a high-falutin music performance school, like if you're really really good on the cello, you go there. But they also have courses in songwriting, music business, music production, film scoring etc that you [...]
