Alright, I have to admit I heard about this a little while ago but I just couldn't wrap my head around what Joel Plaskett was up to. Here's the deal, as I understand it. Beginning yesterday Plaskett will be recording and digitally releasing a song a week for ten straight weeks. Every Tuesday the new song will be premiered on CBC Radio 2's The Drive with Buck 65 (I mean Rich Telfry) at 5:15pm EST. The first song, was "You're Mine". This will culminate in [...]

If you can't tell by the title of this collection, Joel Plaskett is Canadian and awesome. He's the rock'roll offspring of Tom Petty and Paul McCartney—the one that lives in the garage, not even in the room above the garage, just in the garage, with the old radio and the antifreeze. And it's a garage in Canada, so think how cold it must be. Emergencys is 20 tracks spanning Plaskett's work with his band the Emergency, which he formed after disbanding the hard-rocking Thrush Hermit . Plaskett has run an ambitious and [...]

A Hollywood insider mentioned to me recently that they are planning a sequel to 2010's Get Him to the Greek . In this story Russell Brand's character, Aldous Snow, must help Aaron Green (Jonah Hill) escape the mundane flavors of processed food America. Snow has only three days to get Green to Greece, find him some gyros, hummus, falafel, salad, saganaki, dolmadas or spanikopita. Failure to do so will result in...well the insider didn't want to give away the ending. I've offered this soundtrack as it is entirely about the desire to seek out Greek food. [...]

ARTIST: Joel Plaskett - [Album] DATE: 06-30-11 REVIEW BY: Bill Adams Now twelve years after breaking away from Thrush Hermit and striking out on his own, there's no arguing that Joel Plaskett has established himself as one of the best songwriters in Canada. Since 1999, the singer has successfully managed to translate the small wonders in life (small towns, small town kicks, small town girls, small town [view more]

New Scotland Joel Plaskett is something akin to a national treasure to those who place great value on things like classically-styled, distinctly Canadian-flavoured pop-rock songwriting and Plaskett has hardly been shy about keeping his creative riches to himself. Over a seventeen-year career, reaching back to the first Thrush Hermit EP and through his work fronting The Emergency and under his own name solo, he's released at least eight proper albums and more EPs, the most recent of which - Three - was a triple-disc set. [...]

I'm not sure if it's completely in-line or completely unexpected to hear that Joel Plaskett holds twelve releases under his belt since he first set out ten years ago. Add to that the mind-blowing one million plays he has on CBC3, and you get a pretty good idea of the kind of career Plaskett has created for himself. So it's fitting that after a whirlwind decade, he fits in the time for a victory lap. EMERGENCYs, false alarms, shipwrecks, castaways, fragile creatures, special features, demons and demonstrations finds Plaskett reaching deep behind himself, into [...]

Joel Plaskett: photo by Michael Ligon NXNE just wrapped up so before the bombardment of festival coverage that will be upon you, I just wanted to get up a post on the Joel Plaskett Emergency show which kicked off Luminato over a week ago, a festival which also just wrapped this weekend. Taking place at Metro Hall Square (renamed David Pecaut Square) a good sized crowd was onhand for the free show that was kicking off Luminato. Montreal alterna-rock outfit Beast wasn't really appealing to [...]
I'm in a pretty bad place these days. I won't trouble you with details, but the long and the short of it is: long term commitments are hard. Bloody fucking hard. I'm at a point in my life where I can't go on living the ways things have been for the last 10 years, but the roadblocks stopping me from taking that next great leap forward into a whole new world are just too big. They're insurmountable. It'd be easier to take off, leave all this behind and start over somewhere where I have no ties, no history. [...]

So, here's the deal. A few days ago I was informed that my squad will be leaving the relief effort on the 22nd (This upcoming Wednesday). This is good for you because: A) The Indie Sabbath will be back in full force sooner than planned, bringing you that same material that has been described as "Cooler than a polar bear's toe nail" and "So fresh it'll turn your chest into a pair of class cutters." B) [There is no B. Actually there are practically no Bees anymore either . [...]

youarestars.com The promo and touring cycle for Stars' last record The Five Ghosts - released just about a year ago - largely wrapped last Fall, just in time to take a break and allow Amy Millan to have her first child. The Montreal quintet are ready to get back into action, though, and are doing so not with a release of new material but of old. Specifically their previous-to-last album, 20072s In Our Bedroom After The War , or more specifically the demos [...]
