Lagwagon 's Joey Cape and German singer Nessi collaborated to perform some acoustic covers of songs including R.Kelly 's 1996 song, "I Believe I Can Fly," Christina Aguilera 's "Beautiful" and Cape's own Lagwagon composition, "Alien 8." This isn't the first time Cape has covered that particular R.Kelly track, having also tackled it for a 2003 Me First and The Gimme Gimmes album, Take A Break . It also resulted in a (punk)-star studded music video . [...]

Fat Wreck Chords recently reissued Lagwagon 's first five albums Duh , Trashed , Hoss , Double Plaidinum and Lagwagon with remastered songs, a ton of outtakes and demos, and rediscovered photos. For frontman Randal "Joey" Cape, revisiting these albums were visual, audio jaunts to the past, returning him toplaces and faces he had not seen for years. Punknews interviewer Gen Handley had the opportunity to speak to Joey, who had just returned [...]

Lagwagon frontman Joey Cape recently sat down for an interview with Count Your Bruises , where he talks about the future of Lagwagon: Yeah, I know, but it is okay. I understand that people ask this question. I don´t know. Like never. Maybe never. Or January. No, next year we are going to tour a lot. We are touring with NOFX in January which will be cool. And maybe we will start working on new music but I don´t know. There are no plans. He also discusses his latest project, [...]

Recently there's been plenty of 902s rock-and-roll to go around: Pavement and Soundgarden reunions, Nirvana and Pearl Jam reissues, Green Day's released the same album like five times now. But one of that generation's truly underrated bandleaders, Joey Cape (of Lagwagon and Bad Astronaut), has also unleashed two solid projects this year: an acoustic solo album, Doesn't Play Well with Others , and a new band, the Bad Loud. DPWWO is the follow-up to 20082s Bridge —with Cape again producing and playing everything, but this time self-releasing. Those album titles reinforce the fact [...]

The latest project from Joey Cape and friends dubbed Joey Cape's Bad Loud have posted their eponymous debut as a name-your-price download. The album features reworked songs from Cape's solo albums, but the Caper has promised that new, original material from the group is on the horizon. Check out the album here .

Joey Cape recently announced on his twitter that due to the illness of a band member Joey Cape's Bad Loud have cancelled all of their upcoming U.S. tour. Cape will still be performing one solo acoustic set June 17 in Montebello, QC, Canada with NOFX , Descendents , Cancer Bats , and Abandon All Ships.
With most multi-day passes hovering around $200, festival going definitely isn't cheap. Add in airfare, gear, hotel/camping costs, plus the price of 4-days worth of chicken pita, and attending more than one summer extravaganza seems daunting if not impossible. So North By Northeast 's (NXNE) $50 5-day 'Music' wristbands and $150 early bird 'Priority Pass' seem like a steal, considering the festival boasts 600 international bands performing across 50 venues in beautiful Toronto. Pattered after Austin's South By Southwest, NXNE is comprised of an interactive, film, and music segment, with various workshops, panels, and activities taking place over [...]

While it won't carry the same sweeping disdain that Dylan going electric did it was still quite the surprise when I pressed play on Austin Lucas ' new song "Thunder Rail" and heard electric guitars. I'm not sure if this new track is representative of the overall sound of the new record but if it is, having seen Austin backed by Two Cow Garage before, my excitement level is creeping up more than a few notches. Austin Lucas - Thunder Rail Austin's new album, [...]

I am so damned embarrassed about this! I've had these tapes going on months now and I completely forgot about them (probably because I can not play a cassette tape at all in my life). Anyhow, I told y'all about this back in May but to refresh your memory I'll go over it again: "They're currently selling a Double Cassette (I know, I know, the print media really is behind the times) compilation to cover the costs of the next issue's printing costs (at least they aren't just begging for money like some magazines). The compilation has 23 [...]

i dont know how many shows are happening tonight in america, but im guessing hundreds, if not a thousand? if i were to forced to pick just one to hit up, i would have to choose the one that is goin on at the earl this very evening. the night features cory branan, drag the river's jon snodgrass and lagwagon's joey cape - if only they were making their way to new orleans. sigh.... seriously this has the potential to be a classic show. if you are in atlanta, hit this up. what else you got going on? Joey Cape At a time when bands trim the Florida leg from their summer tours as a nod to the creaking economy, three exceptional singer/songwriters are headed to the Sunshine State. Joey Cape , vocalist of the Southern Cal punk outfit Lagwagon , will lead the Punk/Folk Troubadour Revival into our sweatbox of a state. Joining Cape will [...]

You know what they say, "when it rains, it pours", and such is the case next week with three shows in four days. While I don't expect anyone else to adhere to such a rigorous schedule I do think you could find something you like in one (or more) of these shows. If you do make it out to any, find me and we'll tell fish tales over a beer. WEDNESDAY 6/24 @ THE RITZ: GRAYSON CAPPS I [...]

It's been a while since we posted a Lucero Message Board compilation. Really, I'm not too sure what's going on. The curator of the comp hasn't been coming around too much, but we have been graced with a "Spring" compilation. It's shorter than most, but what it lacks from a numbers standpoint it more than makes up for from a quality point. Also, since it was such a hit in my April podcast, I put the Gillian Welch/Old Crow Medicine Show version of The Band's song "The Weight". I hope y'all enjoy this comp, I know I am. [...]

No matter how you slice it, there's no band like NOFX . They've led a generation of punks to water, turned it into wine - okay, beer - and are worshiped like gods, not that they believe in any. And on " Coaster ," the band's 11th studio album, they're still doing what they always have, thumbing their nose at religion and sobriety while pounding out Gershin melodies at a million miles an hour. If the band's lyrics weren't so clever and their chord progressions not so sophisticated, we probably wouldn't tolerate such behavior. Much of "Coaster" [...]
I liked this David Byrne and Brian Eno collaboration Everything That Happens Will Happen Today way more than I thought I would. I'm not sure why I thought that considering that I'm a fan of Byrne's work in Talking Heads and Eno's solo work as well as Roxy Music. The songs have been described by the duo as electronic Gospel music, but I think it sounds more like adult pop than anything else. It's an adventurous album that is radically listenable, but would you expect anything less from these two? [...]

San Francisco's Joey Cape and Fort Collins' own Drag The River are playing in town at Thee Parkside along with Kevin Seconds and Uke Box . Cape, known for his work as the lead singer in SoCal's Lagwagon , released his solo acoustic album, Bridge , late last year. Download audio file (Joey%20Cape%20Who%20Weve%20Be come.mp3) Joey Cape - "Who We've Become" Listening to the album, a few tracks might sound familiar as a couple rock/punk [...]
In which I review CDs that have been sitting next to my stereo since shortly after Thanksgiving. Just because they're not timely doesn't mean they're not content… Star Fucking Hipsters – "Until We're Dead" (Fat Wreck Chords) Does every single band Scott Sturgeon (aka the Stza) is involved in have to sound alike ...
