Welcome to the 49th edition of The Club ! In case you missed it, this week there's been quite some drama going on in the dance music community. Or well, it's more like the dance music community vs. Will.I.Am for taking creative property and repurposing it as his own production. The track he used, coincidentally, is one of the most beloved tracks in dance music, and though it's a few years old, "Rebound" by Arty & Mat Zo is not something to tamper with. One thing we've learned from this experience is that it's quite something to see fans [...]
Wobble Wednesday is a constant battle of the genres. Should I include more future tunes? Should I focus on the filth? Is this drum 'n' bass too heavy? Is it not heavy enough? All questions I go over in my head each week. Sometimes one genre comes out on top of the others, but like Jaro from the documentary, Jaro Dreams of Sushi , I aim to only include products of the highest possible quality. This issue speaks volumes to arguably the most important job of a DJ—song selection. Anybody can mix two songs together, but are [...]
I have a gripe with most EDM parties I go to these days. The rewind? It doesn't seem to exist anymore at most parties I attend. It's an interesting phenomenon, this "missing rewind culture". When I go to see major acts with thousands of fans, it's not present. The fans aren't calling for it, the DJ probably wouldn't want to interrupt their set even if they were, and it's just... not there. But the smaller parties. The ones with DJ's, some just as well-known globally as their stadium-playing counterparts, whom I've been going [...]
Guaranteed theatrics when JOHN B is in town tomorrow. Our friends from three promotion / production groups are bringing in the legendary dj. He's not one to be pigeon-holed so his set in Winnipeg will be a surprise. Local talent in the likes of CHRIS KOMUS , GUMBY , and XPEDITE . I'm playing too, as half of THE SHAKE . We're on early but we have [...]

Here's the official video of the electrostep star John B's latest single 'Lightspeed' featuring Indonesian rapper NSG. Apparently this is a more pop version of the song. The original is a drum & bass tune so I warn you before hand especially if you're expecting a drum & bass tune. The video is directed and edited by NSG and most of the street dancers scene are shot here in Jakarta, Indonesia.

I've always had a great respect for John B . He makes fun, uncompromising music and reaches a very broad audience around the world. From the fun and campy songs like "Take Me Home", "American Girls" and "I've Been Stalking You On MySpace"; to the classics like "Sight Beyond", "The Way I Feel" and "Sax Therapy". He also has a very forward thinking and fun fashion sense, and is excellent at engaging his fans for someone with such a big following. To celebrate the recently released album, John B gave away this free track via his [...]

Some of you might wander why a John B tune is listed under local flava when he's actually from the UK. The reason is because of his collaborator in this tune NSG. This is not the first time that this MC/producer NSG who is Indonesian featured in this blog. Previously we mentioned him in his collaboration with Indonesian female hip-hop mc Yacko in her track Brrapp! and also his online collaboration video that went viral on youtube. Now that we got that out of the way, Light Speed is the tittle [...]

How was 2011 for you? Really good, lots of gigs and bigger, better quality gigs too - definitely getting the impression the fans are "getting" me more and more these days. I guess it’s easier now that everyone is more into Twitter/Facebook and can listen to my podcast regularly and keep in touch with what's going on more quickly and closely. I have enjoyed getting back to single life again too, getting more work done, getting back into fitness and running - ran two half marathons this year, and do about 15 miles a week now. [...]
