Soulive 's inaugural three-day outdoor festival, The Royal Family Affair , kicks off this weekend up at Stratton Mountain in Vermont. They just announced the schedule for the weekend's festivities, which includes sets by Chromeo , Big Gigantic , Soulive, and plenty of their Royal Family label brethren. Last Wednesday, Easy Star All Stars brought the positive vibrations to Highline Ballroom along with John Brown's Body and Cas Haley. Keeping in spirit of the infamous holiday, wisps of green smoke propelled through the crowd as reggae riddims echoed across the room. Since 2004, the McDowell Mountain Music Festival in Scottsdale has been a yearly spring highlight in my desert home, treating music lovers to the likes of Ratdog, the Wailers, Gov't Mule, the Neville Brothers, Los Lobos, Blues Traveler, and last year - none other than the Flaming Lips. For live/touring bands, New Year's Eve is a key night of the year to really bring out the big guns and party down with hardcore fans. Sunday morning is always a mellow day for Gathering of the Vibes .
