As 2011 has come to an end, we are taking a look back at some of our favorite posts of the year by our guest editors. John Doe, the guy who formed one half of X's front line next to Exene Cervenka more than 30 years ago, is still on the scene, doing what he [...]

Earlier this fall, the original lineup of X regrouped for a limited run of shows where they played the entirety of their 1980 debut Los Angeles and screened their little-seen 1986 bio-pic The Unheard Music prior to the show. While similar minded bio-pics like Decline of Western Civilization (1981) achieved cult status, The Unheard Music seemed to slip under the radar of most people at the time of its original release. The Unheard Music was filmed between 1980 and 1985 by Angel [...]

There's a popular bumper sticker around these parts, proclaiming "Keep Portland Weird." It's no secret this city has a reputation for offbeat behavior and eccentric residents, and the local weirdos are out in full force tonight. Attendees this evening include the middle-aged man and woman who have been entangled in a graphic makeout session since they arrived. To their left, the graying groupie who responds loudly to several people who weren't addressing her; on the other side, the plastered-drunk girl in rockabilly garb who has broken her high-heeled shoe while barreling from one side of the room to the other. [...]

melophobe : First off, I get the impression that you don't give a lot of interviews – either that or you're impossible to Google – so I appreciate you talking to me today. John Doe : I do my fair share of interviews. The Google confusion is just a good byproduct. melophobe Alright. With multiple projects occurring simultaneously, how do you know when a song is right for one of them as opposed to the others? JD: Um, to be [...]
