There's undoubtedly something romantic about hitting the road with your band, crisscrossing the country in a tour bus or van, performing night after night for adoring fans, not to mention groupies, booze and adoration galore - which is no doubt why the topic has been such an enduring theme in rock & roll. From country to punk, the tour song remains a popular topic for troubadours of any generation, and the ninth edition of the YuppiePunk podcast focuses on 11 of our favorites. As always, the songs are available ala carte until they expire or forever as part of the [...]

At the Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown NY Starting pro baseball season in the middle of this big economic losing streak might be a good idea, or it might be a bad one. Good idea - the simplicity and fun of America's pastime might get our minds off our money woes. Bad idea - we can't afford a friggin' ticket! But we really have no choice: baseball has its own time, like the seasons. It arrives, whether we are ready for it or not. We will soon be wondering about lineups, starting pitchers, Manny, [...]

In January of 1998, Lloyd Price was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . At the usual concert that evening, he was joined by John Fogerty, who sang along with him on "Stagger Lee." At one point, Mr. Fogerty and Mr. Price can't agree on which verse they're singing... for an entire verse, and neither notices, or at least backs down. Me personally? I think Stag the badass wouldn't back down either, even if he were singing the wrong verse, publicly and loudly. This brings Lloyd Price month to an end here [...]

Rockin' Sidney (with accordion) and friends in 1985 We are going to linger for one more day in Cajun country, before making the final push to New Orleans in time for Mardi Gras. Today we look at one of the biggest hits to ever come out of Louisiana . In 1984, a strange sound was enveloping the nation. It could heard squawking from an outdoor stage in Texas or bouncing between the steel and glass skyscrapers of Manhattan. The sound was the greasy notes of an accordion played by one Rockin' Sidney Simien, on [...]

Today Barack Obama will take the oath to become the 44th President of the United States. Millions of Americans will breathe a sigh of relief - not so much that Obama is in the White House, but that George W. Bush is out. As the Beatles sang, " It's getting better all the time ... it can't get no worse! " CAUTION: Some of the following songs contain explicit language. MP3: "George Bush R.I.P." by Cosmo vs. Flapsandwich [...]

While I'm waiting to see if there's some iTunes/iPod-related news coming up in the MacWorld keynote address, one update from the Garageband front...they've added music lessons. So, while Maura tries to find a way to put the Patrick Stump segments on a loop, you can learn how to play to real instruments via lessons John Fogerty, Colbie Caillat, Sting, Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones or the guy from OneRepublic. If they add accordion lessons from Jimmy Sturr, I'm in. [ Macworld ]
STRANGER IN MY OWN HOME TOWN Elvis Presley From Elvis In Memphis BMG : 1969 [Buy It] GOIN' BACK HOME John Fogerty Eye of the Zombie Warner Bros. : 1986 [Buy It] One of the things about this time of year is that it involves lots of time in houses. For me, this year, that meant lots of time spent in one house, as a long-term guest, for a period that spanned from just [...]

A classic Deserving of a spot on any mix CD Worthy of a download, but not of frequent play Dump it like a hot rock What a year 1969 was for Creedence Clearwater Revival. The San Francisco-based quartet followed up their 1968 debut album with three [...]

John Fogerty : Almost Saturday Night [ purchase ] After hit maker machine Creedence Clearwater Revival disbanded in 1972, main songwriter and vocalist, John Fogerty began his much anticipated solo career. In an attempt to put some distance between himself and the Creedence legacy, he left his name off his first album and released it as The Blue Ridge Rangers , a collection of Country and Gospel songs that didn't live up to the expectation of CCR fans anticipating a Rock-based Pop record. [...]

After Creedence broke up in 1972, John Fogerty made a bluegrass album called Blue Ridge Rangers in 1973. Then in 1975 he released an album simply called John Fogerty . I'm not sure why this album went nowhere, maybe Fogerty's time had passed or maybe there was no promotion. Wikipedia says that "Rockin' All Over the World" was a Top 40 hit, though I certainly don't remember that. I thought sure that song had a second life being covered by other artists, but my research (ok, the [...]
For many bands, rocking you hard isn't enough. They feel the need to tell you how hard they're rocking you. So as a tribute to the many groups too insecure to let the music speak for itself…let there be rock. Ludwig Van 88 - We Will Rock You (Queen) I don't when Ludwig plans on rocking me, but until then I'll settle for being pleasantly reggaeed. [ Buy ] Patti Smith - So You Want to Be (A Rock'n'Roll Star) [...]

To celebrate Creedence Clearwater Revival's 40th anniversary, their original label Fantasy Records recently reissued expanded editions of six of the band's albums ( Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bayou Country, Green River, Willy & the Poor Boys, Cosmo's Factory , and Pendulum ). The albums are packaged quite nicely, I greatly prefer these "eco-pack" (I think that's what they're called) covers to jewel cases. They're prettier and easier to store. The reissued CDs have been digitally remastered and plumped up with B-sides, unreleased tracks, live performances, and other rarities. [...]
This song is from 1995's Centerfield. I read somewhere that the song was a tribute to Elvis, but don't hold me to that. MP3 File
Frazeysburg Cemetery Frazeysburg, Ohio They're coming to get you, Barbara John Fogerty - Eye Of The Zombie

(RFT freelancer Roy Kasten is attending the Austin City Limits Festival in Texas this weekend, and kindly offered to blog about it for us. Here's his first dispatch; all photos by Dana Plonka .) At past ACLs, I've had some of the finest musical moments early on in the day, before the waves of humanity and crushing sun. On Saturday I played it safe, and bet on Jesus. The gospel tent featured Shields of Faith , an established touring band from San Antonio, Texas, who testified like there really were [...]

We kicked off our Saturday by seeing the Fleet Foxes for the third time this year . They were absolutely incredible, one of my favorites sets of the day as the band continues to top themselves each time I see them. On top of that, their onstage banter/comedy was unexpected, but very funny. The Drive-By Truckers put on a tight demonstration of Southern Rock the way it should be. The highlight was the extended story intro of " 18 Wheels of Love ," which if [...]
The more I look at this, the more absolutely goddamn magnificent I think it is. Bellefontaine, Ohio Here you go, Todd: John Fogerty - Centerfield God, will October never come?

I'm not kidding. Later tonight, I'll be on the field at AT&T park in San Francisco hitting batting practice and shagging fly balls. There's no game today, but there will be kegs of beer in the dugouts. Fly balls + Beer = ??? Woody doesn't think I'll hit it out of the infield, but he isn't aware of my glory days. I'll auction my home run ball on the site tomorrow. And to make this post music blogworthy, here's an appropriate song. John Fogerty - Centerfield
