RElyse - New Universe A couple years ago, I met John K when he lived in Philly for a spell and was making radical, simple synth tunes wrapped in his gentle falsetto. He's since moved back up to New York City, releasing amazing bedroom singles through his Tumblr whenever he felt like it. He's just put out a new EP of tunes with his friend Elyse - and you should get into these immediately. White-washed pop minimalist brilliance. Listen to the whole self-titled EP on Sndcld [...]

Tomorrow night, John King's Louisville is for Lovers 73 series concludes for the summer with the incomparable Whistle Peak and The Gallery Singers. The 73 series has by far been one of the neatest events of the season - and you should know why. $10 ($8 advance) gets you to the rooftop, where you'll see Whistle Peak and The Gallery Singers perform and get a split 73 record with tunes by both bands as you exit. Try to find a better way to spend $10 on a Friday night (actually don't, cause you can't). [...]

For reasons I cannot put in to words (mostly alluding to my unfounded stubbornness and general lack of intelligence) I've been secretly avoiding the band Rangers for a good, good while. In the midst of spell of musical lethargy though I decided I'd snatch their newest three-song project to see if perhaps struck a chord [...]

Hello all! As 2010 goes, it's been a strange year for me... i've picked up and moved to Boston and then picked up and moved back! I enlisted the help of the great and powerful John King of Louisville is for Lovers fame as well as the brooding Gallery Singers. Our good friend Dylan also spent his time to make the site better and rounded things out while I was away. I do have to give a great thanks to these two guys and especially John for making this site come alive with near daily posts to keep the city's [...]

this year i participated in the New Albany Bicentennial Art project, where 4 artists made public sculptures celebrating New Albany's 200th birthday. they are expanding the project for 2 more years, selecting artists to make work that represents New Albany's rich history. It was fun, and it was great exposure, but we only got $2000 to make the work, which for a public sculpture isn't a lot of dough, but for 2011 they are expanding the stipend to $4,000 each. If you are an artist, or know one that might be interested in this project, they are taking submissions [...]

Influential Leeds-based post-punk band Gang of Four will release their new album, Content , on January 25th via Yep Roc. The upcoming release is the band's first album of new material since 1995's Shrinkwrapped and was written by mainstays John King and Andy Gill, and recorded and produced by Gill. Earlier in the year the band raised money to record the album via a campaign on Pledge Music . "What we're trying to do is keep it totally stripped down, where everyone in the band makes an equally intense contribution," says [...]

PIXELHORSE Flava in Burlington, VT So it seems as if the further north you live, the lazier you get. At any rate, your favorite PIXELHORSE lady in the north country has compiled a bulleted list of what you need to listen to. It is in no particular order, except that all should be listened to, post haste: [...]

Rick Moranis x Rose Quartz Mix (mediafire) 65mb OH HEY, so felt pretty bad about not blogging much over the last few weeks (due to ridiculous academic intensity/sitting on my bed 10 hrs day writing about goth subcultures), so last night after finishing my final assignment, sitting in a sleep-deprived daze at 3am watching New Zealand v Paraguay and also Honey I Shrunk the Kids on my laptop, I made this weird mix and decided to call it the RICK MORANIS MIX which seemed like a funny idea at the time. I like [...]

There's a hint of Daft Punk's Aerodynamic at play on John K's "Lost In The Beat." I can remember being in airplane over the Atlantic Ocean with an old friend and hearing the strains of "One More Time" through a pair of shared headphones, and thinking "Wow, this just rides the line of 80s homage [...]

The last Louisville Is For Lovers Weekend took place this last weekend at the Vernon Club and Backseat Sandbar was in attendance to support this great event and to shoot some videos of some great local artists.
