While looking through Archive.org earlier today, I found that John Mayer has quite a few concerts up online, which I didn't expect, given how prominent of a musician he is. There's not a whole lot of recent ones, but there is a bunch of ones that date back to 2002 and a little earlier, and from those, I found a couple of cool covers. All of these covers are pretty faithful to the original, except Crossroads , which seems to lend itself more towards Eric Clapton's fantastic cover of it. Never Tear Us Apart is [...]
As you all may have figured out, I really can't wait for the new Verve album. So, imagine my delight when one of my other favourite artists, John Mayer, teased their classic 'Bittersweet Symphony' during a recent performance at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, Tinley Park, Illinois. I unashamedly love John Mayer, I even had tickets for his cancelled Irish gig five years ago when he broke his arm or was sick, or whatever was the confounded reason for him not appearing. If you think he's just a pop singer or merely Rachel from Friends ' fella, [...]
I know I'm biased. I know you're tired of my John Mayer posts, but let's just all pretend I'm not obsessed with John Mayer and that I got dragged to this concert against my own will, and see where that gets us, ok? Have a little faith in me. I think all of Chicago, including many fellow SCOPErs, would agree that John Mayer rocked the house . His guitar playing at this show was the best I have seen. The set list was a mix of everything, hits [...]
Ready... Steady... Go I was initially really excited to listen to Stay Positive , the latest release from post-punk band The Hold Steady . I hadn't listened to them much since their second album released in 2005 and I was still in high school. I'd forgotten how much Craig Flynn sounds like Bruce Springsteen , and it's especially evident on this album. Was I listening to a jazzier version of the Bruce, or was this really Stay Positive? In fact, it was the latter. Even though [...]
Day 2. Quick note: I went through a thousand dangers to make it to the stretch of soccer fields on Sunday. I mean there was brunch, mimosas, bloodies and then there was my "group", moving at a glacial pace toward the venue. And the sun, Christ, it was something to behold. So, I went to Grace Potter & the Nocturnals , but only remember flashes of it as I was in a recovery position looking like a member of the Donner party. This is what ill say, "she killed". [...]

Sunday dawned even hotter than Saturday at the Mile High Music Festival (we didn't think it was possible after the sweat and simmer of Saturday). In Colorado we usually get a rocky mountain high of mid 80s, with a rare foray into the 90s. So when the mercury hit 100+, it felt like a wave from an oven to this California girl who has forgotten what it means to perspire like that. The crowds were also more intense on Sunday, with several thousand more hardy souls fortifying themselves in the beer garden, filling up [...]

John Mayer just released a live album on July 1 featuring selections from his performance at The Nokia Theatre in L.A. Admit it, the first time you heard "Your Body Is A Wonderland," you thought it was a catchy make out song from the "guy who sure sounds a lot like Dave Matthews." Then, the onslaught of 15 year-old girls caught on to his talent and liking him turned into an embarrassing chore. OK, maybe it was just me. Since then, I have come to appreciate Mayer and the other oddities and talents that surround him. Case in point: [...]

From his official blog: http://www.johnmayer.com/Blog I want all my fans to know that it is with great humility and embarrassment that I have to inform you that I was arrested tonight. I hope that my forthrightness and honesty will help to ease some of your hurt. Here are the facts. After my show in Mansfield, MA, I decided to try my hand at mixing the perfect watermelon margarita. Having served more than two dozen, and sipping from each drink as it was delivered, I became very inebriated. The rest makes me sick to [...]
Filed under: Potent Quotables Spinner.com : "I might've hooked up with [fans], but as soon as I hooked up with them they weren't fans anymore." --John Mayer The guitarist and serial dater admitted that it's not just celebs he's after. John Mayer's cover of "Free Fallin'," as covered on his Where The Light Is CD/DVD, just missed the Hot 100's top 50 in its first week as an iTunes download. Between this and that cheesy Bucket List song, it's clear Mayer isn't going to stick solely to Da Blooze any time soon, for better or worse. So why did John decide to cover this Tom Petty nugget? I'm guessing it has something to do with getting to sing "I'm a bad boy, cuz I don't even miss her" on stage. [ YouTube]

Apparently sex with John Mayer is so terrible that one fling with the current boyfriend of Jennifer Aniston will cease to enjoy his music and leave you feeling nauseous. "I might have hooked up with people, but as soon as we hooked up, they weren't fans anymore." Mayer spilled the beans on his sex life and groupie banging, but insists he will never sleep with a fan again. Ever since the invention of the camera cell phone, he is paranoid a leak of a [...]
John Mayer has traveled a long road as a musician. Unfortunately the majority only know him for his early work, which most would describe as teeny-bop music. For those fans that have remained faithful to Mayer, they are aware that he has transformed his music into something much deeper than "Wonderland." Not only has the lyrical content progressed but Mayer has fused the eternal blues with modern pop to form his own unique sound. Fittingly, John Mayer's recent release Where the Light Is also follows a progression. The album was recorded live in Los Angeles at [...]

On day four of the Rothbury Festival, I can finally say that the weather has been absolutely perfect. Same goes for virtually every organizational aspect of the festival. I have been staying offsite at night, but the only complaint I've heard is that some people had to set up their tents far from the festival entrance, which is inevitable when approx. 40,000 people are staying in one place. Today's lineup is somewhat scaled down compared to the last two days, but still solid and diverse. Phil Lesh & Friends are the only game in town after [...]
No Air Guitar Allowed transcends boundaries. Steve Weinberger, who had a little help from his friends, wrote a book about concert fouls centered more around the arena/theater than the club/bar (though there were some specific holdovers). However, the hilarious-yet-honest stereotypes hold true no matter what the venue is. I like to think my peers and I are above these antics. I mean, folks seeing The Whigs at The Dame would be much more refined than those seeing John Mayer at Rupp Arena, right? No sirree. My initial delusions of grandeur were [...]
Op een avond drie sets spelen met elk een heel andere insteek, John Mayer hoef je duidelijk niet te vertellen hoe je al je fans tevreden houdt . Ik vind het ook wel een slimme insteek eerlijk gezegd, want een...

We won't hide it... we're not-so-closet John Mayer fans. We started liking him back in the day (oh middle school!) when we felt semi-indie being a John Mayer fan, and while that delusion has since worn off, our love of his music has not. Mayer just really knows what he's doing: he's produced some completely amazing pop masterpieces, and while a large majority of his music clearly fits snugly into the category of (gasp!) soft adult contemporary music, a lot of his stuff is really just great music. He has a live album, "Where The Light Is", [...]

I have been away far too long; I apologize. I appreciate the emails and the requests for more. It's been a very busy six weeks for me as my oldest daughter is graduating from high school next week. It doesn't seem so long ago that I was wearing a cap and gown sitting through endless speeches waiting to have my name called by someone I had spent my high school career avoiding so he could hand me my diploma, which seemed to me at that time like a release form from servitude. It wasn't. One of [...]

No new music to share right now, instead I'm going to share how excited I am to be seeing two great shows taking place this summer. Not to rub it in or anything but... The first show I've already made plans to see is in mid July to see a triple decker of a summer tour: John Mayer , Brett Dennen , and Colbie Caillat . Yea, you read that right. You've got an accomplished guitarist who's tackled everyone from Radiohead [...]
I couldn't adequately capture all of the beautiful images I came across during my trip. But they're in my heart, never too far from mind, and will stay with me always. John Mayer - 3x5 "You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes, it brought me back to life."
