One of the highlights of the new television season has been the excellent Spectacle series, which features Elvis Costello insightfully interviewing and playing with a wide range of especially interesting guests. Recent subjects have included Elton John, Rufus Wainwright, Bill Clinton, Tony Bennett, and Lou Reed. It's on Wednesday nights on the Sundance Channel at 9pm, and repeated throughout the week. Tonight's episode features Kris Kristofferson, Rosanne Cash, Norah Jones and John Mellencamp. Here's a clip from that show: [...]

Elvis Costello with Kris Kristofferson & Rosanne Cash I know I've mentioned Spectacle many times before in this space, but I have yet to really weigh in on the show itself. To me it's kind of a cross between PBS' defunct Sessions at West 54th and Bravo's short lived Musicians with David Wild (where Elvis was once a guest). Fortunately, Elvis is a more compelling host than Wild and the live performances on Spectacle are well, more a "spectacle" than those [...]
If you've shaken your thing in a dance club the last year, the music of LMFAO is surely familiar, be it their self-produced singles like "I'm in Miami, Bitch" and "Lil' Hipster Girl" or remixes for Fergie , Kanye West ( "Love Lockdown" ) and Katy Perry ( "Hot n' Cold" ). Now signed to Interscope, the Hollywood Hip-Hop duo is finally poised to release an album of their already impressive catalogue of 'hits' (appropriately entitled Party Rock ,) to be released next month. [...]

:: Sorry boys (and some girls), Fergie just got hitched to Josh Duhamel. Granted, she's no Zooey Deschanel, but she's no Amy Winehouse either. :: Have trouble getting to sleep on Saturday nights? Well, that won't be an issue on Jan. 17. :: When The Who's Roger Daltrey teams up with Pete Doherty's Babyshambles for charity, it leaves me scratching my head. :: Does your Tony-Danza-Tap-Dance-Extravaga nza -meets- Spinto-Band -by-way-of- The-Beach-Boys band want to play Bamboozle ? Well, it's that time of year again... the time of year where we take inventory of our lives and figure out ways to improve our existence. These changes are called "resolutions," and they're always fun to come up with because (let's face it) they rarely ever last past the first two months [...]
Lawyers, Guns & Money- Warren Zevon Authority Song - John Mellancamp

Is it a bad thing if my drinks cost more than my food at BWW? Apparently, mojitos run $6 a pop there. Ah, I needed it. Late last night, the news came out that Republicans in the Senate basically told Michigan to go fuck off. So, will the last one to leave the state, please turn the lights off? Heh. I'm refusing to turn into a defeatist...yet. Eh, screw it. I went out with the girls, we had a great time, that's all that matters. Unfortunately, we have to be back at work at 7 a.m. That's the part that [...]

![The British Music Magazines Have Gone UKrazy [Year-end Analysis]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1373300_lg.jpg)
It's still a little strange to see top 10 lists now, but if it's not too early for the onslaught of Christmas music to invade every public space I seem to go to, I suppose it's OK to start trying to wrap 2008 in a cute bow. Which brings us to what's apparently British music mag list day, with the once-entertaining Q and the real-rock bible Mojo battling it out to see, once and for all, which publication has better taste in American music. THE GOOD: Both lists feature titles I [...]
"Hold on to 16 as long as you can..." one of the most poignant rock lyrics ever put to paper. My oldest nephew is turning 16 next month(what? God, I swear he was born like...last year!)...I feel like having some sort of intervention with him. I feel like sitting him down and playing this song for him and telling him to follow every dream he has while he is young...because those dreams become harder and harder to realize with each passing year - says the wise old uncle. The only reason I thought about this [...]

"IF there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer."* I've been pretty hard on the American Dream lately, have made statements about it being a myth or a fantasy or available only beyond America's shores. But as Barack Obama started his speech last night, as the first black president of the United States took the stage, I realized that I was wrong. [...]

It's time for another installment of our Under Cover feature. This week Popwrecker Mona Sheikh takes a look at some covers of Prince 's "When You Were Mine." Prince version, 1980: Never released as a single and considered a B-side, I was hooked on this early 80's song upon hearing the last lyric of the chorus, "I love you more than I did when you were mine," because it is a sentiment that is so sweet and simple, but at the same time profound and incredibly relatable. Laced [...]

Parece que Jon Bon Jovi anda un tanto enfadado porque la candidata a la vicepresidencia para las próximas elecciones en E.E.U.U., Sarah Palin, ha usado en sus mítines música de la banda, concretamente "Who Says You Can't Go Home". Algo [...]

I seem to be suffering from a bit of a lack of inspiration this week. That makes this a good time to reach back into music history and pull out a post of various musical birthdays and other events that took place this day in history. Today is the birthday of country/folk singer/songwriter Kieran Kane. Born in Queens, NY in 1949, Kane had music in his blood from an early age. By the time he was nine, Kane was playing drums in his older brother's rock band. As a teenager, his attentions [...]

How cool was the Austin airport on Monday? I got to meet two great artists: Band of Horses' Ben Bridwell and good ol' Kenny Aronoff - a drummer I've admired and enjoyed for years. Most people will know Kenny from his 17 years of backing John Mellencamp, all the way back to 1980's Nothin' Matters and What If It Did . He was in Austin to pound the skins for John Fogerty at ACL (one of my favorite sets of the weekend). But Kenny has also been one of the most in-demand studio [...]

John Cougar Jack & Diane [ purchase ] As a child of the 80's John Cougar always struck me as sort of a wannabe Bruce Springsteen. I suppose there's a little more to him than that, but I have never really been a big fan. That being said, Jack & Diane has always been a pretty cool song, and since most of the other really awesome Johns have been taken I figured I'd feature it here. John Cougar has exactly two other songs that I like, [...]
Republican running mates John McCain and Sarah Palin aren't making any friends in the music industry - quite the opposite, in fact. Rather than going through the appropriate channels, the duo are seemingly stealing music from many legendary artists who aren't even backing them. Van Halen last week issued a cease-and-desist order when the politicians began [...]
