Battle Ave.'s debut War Paint is visceral, thunderous indie rock that plays like a score from a motion picture. "Oh Other, You Brother" reminds me of John Murphy's "In The House - In A Heartbeat" - I can't praise it much higher than that. War Paint is available for free for a limited time via their bandcamp - link is below. Connect: Facebook | Twitter | Tumblr Battle Ave - Puke Lust by Sirens of Decay [...]

About six months ago, I became completely obsessed with zombies films, mostly due to the brilliance behind Robert Kirkman 's The Walking Dead books and the airing of the series on AMC . As Season 1 comes out on DVD and BluRay today, I figured the time was right to post this. So I buckled down and finished my zombie soundtrack podcast, filled with songs I felt perfect for a zombie film. Be assured: this will not be your typical zombie mix. [...]

Anna Murray Michael Gordon - 'Industry' A greatest hits compilation is an unusual beast within the world of 'classical' music, but then the Bang on A Can composers are too. Re-released at the start of the month as mp3 download, the album features seven of the troupe's best known works, performed of course by the Bang on A Can All-Stars. The aggressive but beautiful "Industry" is perhaps the best example of Michael Gordon's slightly subversive, always compelling brand of music, characteristically blurring the boundaries between rock and 'art'. Happy Halloween people! Hopefully you got/gave so much candy that either your teeth or your pantry are unsalvageable. But of course, what would Halloween be without Halloween themed songs? First up, one of the classic Halloween songs. If you haven't come across it before, it's called Do They Know It's Halloween. It's sort of a satire of Do They Know It's Christmas, and was put out by the "The North American Halloween Prevention Initiative", featuring a ton of well-known bands and artists, including Arcade Fire, Beck, Sonic Youth, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. When it originally came [...]

I'm tired, man. I woke up at 7am again this morning. Nicci sang the national anthem at the Rose Bowl for the MS Walk-a-thon, which was really nice to hear. Too bad those walkers were antsy, it would have been super-cool if they relaxed a bit and let me sleep another couple hours. Oh well. I started to crash at work after about three hours, but I found my second wind and made it through the day without passing out. Nate, Nicci, Tom and I saw Kick Ass tonight, which I highly recommend. I haven't laughed that hard [...]

I read something today that I just couldn't ignore; "I'll forget what you said to me, forget what you did to me, but never forget the way you made me feel." It struck me since words and actions both fancy the senses but are forgetable. Whereas feelings can not be seen (yes, through actions, ie crying, but I mean in a spiritual sense) yet they're hardest to forget. HEAVY! Ah yes, two weeks off. No practice placements. No exams. No Assignments. You have no idea how good it feels to write that. A word about the St. Andrew track. You may remember his winning Yelle remix as well as his Ocelot remix which was a runner up. If your expecting Forgotten to be similar, forget it. Imagine Aphex Twin with the visceral stylings of Four Tet and your about there. MP3: St. Andrew - Forgotten DOWNLOAD [...]
The background and incidental music for a film is vital. More often than not, that music influences the mood: providing the emotional background; creating the suspense; and reinforcing the high-impact moments. In some cases, however, the music itself is as powerful as the visual imagery (maybe even more powerful). The Danny Boyle film "Sunshine" is one of these - a great science fiction film, full of amazing visual imagery, all supporting by the greatest music I've heard in a film in a long, long time. As I watched the film, again and again I found the music overwhelming me, and [...]
