photo by kathryn yu It seems like a helluva long way to go for 5 shows, but that's what these fine gentlemen will be doing for New Years... heading for Australia. Lucky bastards! Very nearly one year ago to the day, John Darnielle , offered these two songs on his Mountain Goats website... after good friend (and sometime producer) John Vanderslice , had posted a free live show on his own homepage, [...]

{ illustrations by a } I didn't know much about John Vanderslice 's music before this show, I just knew that he came very highly recommended. About Cortney Tidwell I knew nothing at all. Also, my camera is a moody one, and after one two many Kodak moments had gone on strike. So that's the scene set. When we got in the door, the music had just started, and, having brought sufficient money for a few hour's drinking, we made our way to the front to closer observe... something good. Cortney [...]
It was like yesterday didn't even really exist. I was so busy with work and showing my apartment to a potential tenant, I just plain forgot to post. Pls. forgive. It may be like this for the next few weeks, considering Pinkie and I are planning a major cross-country relocation in approx. three weeks, with a national holiday smack in the middle. We probably won't be at many shows, or schedule any dj gigs -- but I know you'll understand. ( BTW, if you're in Austin, Pinkie's already posted her car on craigslist -- check it out. ) [...]

Track sheet for The Kingdom , via www.johnvanderslice.com . Leave it to John Vanderslice , one of the most accessible musicians to his fans, to take a vinyl-only track and make it available as a digital download â€" encoded at 256 kbps (VBR), no less. The Kingdom is (er, was) a vinyl-only addition to the Pixel Revolt LP, available on lovely 180-gram vinyl . (Seriously, 180-gram is beautiful; those records are as thick as dinner plates and probably more durable.) [...]

New track from Vanderslice, which is aimed to be on the next album. My attempt at the lyrics is below; I like the song, but I think the lyrics are uneven. The repeated "I've never been lonelier"s are self-pitying and annoying, but I like the images in between the mawkish interludes, and the abrupt end makes the ambiguous last image very powerful. Charles Rennie Mackintosh Numbered Lithograph , from his set in Karlsruhe on Hallowe'en when you left me at the table to go to the ATM I've never been [...]

At InvisibleLimb.net we don't mess around. If we hear something that tickles us, we post that sucker. If we hear something that only mildly amuses us or straight up stinks, we don't. This is the law of the Limb! Tremble before it's ruthless ways!  So, in accordance with the law, we will only be posting John Vanderslice bootlegs and videos from here on out. Vanderslice recently recorded a handful of new songs at the MP3.com studios, and they are now available for viewing online. The new songs (I'm guessing they [...]

Editor's Note: This post was written by Mark DeVito of San Francisco's Low Red Land . It is part of a series of posts that the band will be writing for the site today. At the bottom of the page, you can find the links to the rest. My name is Mark, and I play drums in Low Red Land . I am lucky to have the opportunity to do what I love with people I love. I [...]
I started a new job (sort of) this week so my weeks of blissful unemployment have come to an end. But on the bright side, my visa was approved and I won't be kicked out of this country anytime soon which means this blog shall remain an Australian music blog. Yay! And speaking of Australian music blogs run by Canadians, Graham just moved to Melbourne and he has a very eclectic/extensive record/mp3 collection by the looks of it. And on top of that he's a great writer. And on top of THAT he frequently writes about [...]

John Vanderslice is in the studio right now recording his follow up to last year's Pixel Revolt.  According to his website, the record is going to be more rock oriented and less layered, which is fine by me. Everything the man releases is gold. The mp3 I have for you today is a B-side from the vinyl version of Pixel Revolt called 'the Kingdom'. It's a slow piano song that doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the album's songs, but it has some very beautiful parts, particularly in the chorus. Vanderslice fans should eat [...]

John Vanderslice Life and Death of an American Fourtracker Besides having one of the cooler album covers of any cd I own, Life and Death of an American Fourtracker was the beginning of my Vanderslice obsession. "Me and My 424" was the first song I ever heard by Vanderslice, and soon after that initial listen I went out and picked up the album. From there I just couldn't get enough and eventually got his entire collection, all four album's worth. What makes John Vanderslice so good is [...]
Vanderslice heads back to Europe with his 'oh so tight' band. You can see the dates above, but don't fret if you're stuck in the 'new' country, JV and the boys will tour North America (well, some of it) in the spring. Also, word is out that JV's award winning analog recording studio in San Francisco, Tiny Telephone, has it's own myspace page now (here). Go and add them... they'll be your

Some people seem to want to lock up their music and hide it away. Others realize that if people hear your music and like it, they'll want to support you. It's good karma and I think that it works. I first heard John Vanderslice via some free mp3s from the days of MK Ultra and then I worked my way up to more current work. He has a gift for writing evocative, enigmatic and beautiful lyrics that can vividly create images, stories and feelings. Combine that with some skillful musicianship and producing and you've got some of the [...]

John Vanderslice. Photographer, analog tape master, producer, and ultimately, musical genius. This Florida/San Francisco native has been creating music on his own for six years after the demise of his band mK Ultra. Quite comparable to now wildly successful once-band-members-now-solo-act s Justin Timberlake and Beyonce, no sarcasm present, John erupted on the music scene with his debut single Bill Gates Must Die (a legal spat with Microsoft soon followed... tehe...). Now pushing 40, but still going strong, he has successfully toured North America, Europe, and Japan, contributed to producing Spoon's Gimme Fiction , and founded a San Francisco [...]
