Jenny (Lewis) and Johnny (Rice) made their national television debut on Conan last night, performing Im Having Fun Now single Big Wave with Lewis on lead vocals for the broadcast and a web-exclusive take on the Rice-led Scissor Runner. While both renditions stay pretty faithful to their respective studio takes, the most notable bit arrives when the couple share the lead mic for some The Boss/Little Steven-esque harmonies in the outro of Scissor Runner, which is, of course, adorbs. I was so disappointed with both the music on the last Rilo Kiley album and with Jenny Lewis' sex-kitten cavorting which accompanied the PR effort that I ended up developing a real dislike of the band. This is possibly due to me being a bit of dick I suppose, rather than any fault of the band, but I really didn't like the actual tunes much either so the results would have been much the same I guess. As a project, Jenny & Johnnydespite the inherent cheesiness of its name and implications of a romantically involved duo playing music togetheris an overwhelming success.
