A Compilation Album to Support the Victims of the Japan Earthquake In the wake of the horrendous earthquake and resulting tsunami that recently struck eastern Japan, 7 e.p. (a label that mainly licenses music from overseas) has arranged a compilation to help benefit the victims. With the hope of creating an iTunes-based benefit album, they called out to the overseas artists that they have had the pleasure of working with. The response was immediate and overwhelming. The result: a 3-volume benefit compilation album titled Resume [...]
![[news] The End of Wolf Parade (for now)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3006556_lg.jpg)
Wolf Parade take indefinitely long hiatus After just releasing two new tracks from the Expo 86 sessions, you'd think Wolf Parade were gearing up for another tour. Unfortunately, towards the end of their November 26th show in Toronto at Sound Academy, Spencer Krug apparently announced that it would be their last show "for a long time." To confirm the sad news, the Wolf Parade Fansite had this to say: "It does not come easy for me to post this news. Dan Boeckner [...]
Johnny and the Moon - Scarlet Town pt. II Scarlet Town makes two appearances on the Johnny and the Moon LP. The first is "The Ballad of Scarlet Town," which features narratives from four different characters (troubled boy, lonesome girl, mountain man, and honest man) talking some defiant shit and laying down imperatives. "Scarlet Town pt. 2" picks up where "Ballad" leaves off, and is like that first installment, only more so: where "Ballad" is kinetic, "pt. 2" is frantic (w/a thousand tambourines, shakers, and unorthodox percussionisms), and where "Ballad" provides some hints that ST [...]

Seattle's best music venues reopens after nearly a year of inactivity The Crocodile Cafe was always my favorite music venue in Seattle. Serving the city for over 15 years, the Croc abruptly closed its doors in December of 2007 - almost without warning. I first heard the news through a rumor from a friend... the next casualty of gentrification sweeping through Belltown. These rumors were later confirmed when KEXP reported that Robin Pecknold, J. Tillman, and David Bazan had played the last show at the Crocodile. Ever since the Crocodile [...]

Last weekend, Victoria, British Columbia played host to the first annual Rifflandia Music Festival . While not quite reaching the same echelon as some of the summer's other major festivals, Rifflandia's jam-packed, indie-friendly lineup combined with its unique presentation certainly served for one hell of a weekend. Thankfully, Colin Coulter was there to take it in for us... Victoria is a city of only 330,000 people, and has a reputation as a haven for the "newly wed" and "nearly dead." So when word came that Canada's Garden City would be the latest Pacific Northwest location [...]
Featuring Spencer Krug, Sunset Rubdown is a definte move in a different direction from his other band, Wolf Parade. Another Wolf Parade member, Dante, as well as members from Hot Hot Heat join the show with the folk music of Johnny & The Moon . Also on the bill is Magic Weapon , yet another band with connections, this time Justin from Sunset Rubdown and member from Think About Life. 10/10: First Unitarian Church , Philly 10/11: Black Cat , DC Sunset Rubdown - The Mending of the Gown [...]

Photography by Renee King Hey all, busy busy day, so much going on, so many projects! Woof. But, it's almost a memory as this weekend, TsuruBride and I are heading down to New Orleans for a romantic weekend getaway. Sweet. Well, turns out that it's also the weekend of Southern Decadence, basically, the Gay Mardi Gras, how hilariously awesome is that? Cajun food, the French Quarter, the beautiful Cathedral, the amazing Jazz, and a shit load of drag queens. Man oh man, [...]
Wolf Parade's Dante DeCaro takes a moment to explore his folksy side with Johnny and the Moon.

"In Our Bedroom After The War" is the name of Toronto pop wonders Stars' new album which will be released on September 25 on Arts and Crafts . This is their first album since 2004's excellent release "Set Yourself On Fire". Of course the wonderful Amy Millan used her voice to great effect on her solo album last year, but it is nice to know that we can hear her voice again soon on this new album. The new song made available "The Night Starts Here" has a more electronic feel, but it still features the delicious [...]

I really like this baby polar image that I used for last week's Graboid, so i'm going to use it again. I'm kind of bumbed out a little bit this week because there are a lot of great options to spend your time with, as The National is playing tonight in Atlanta along with Feist / Grizzly Bear , Battles and Snowden playing shows on Friday night Let's not forget that Bonnaroo is starting tomorrow as well. What do all these have in common? Well, I'm not going to any of [...]

Ages ago I posted a lovely 1980's song by Laurie Anderson called O Superman. M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade have actually made their remix of it less minimal than the original was, that's saying something for the minimal maestros. Here's the original and their mix. Laurie Anderson - Oh Superman M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka [...]

Sean Hayes ' music may remind you of Jack Johnson's and on the surface you'd be correct but from what I've heard this is on a wholly different emotional plane. This is not content to be background music for a dinner party or the soundtrack to a kid's movie. While quiet these songs are still busting out at the seams. They're the type that are hard to ignore and harder still turn off. Sean Hayes has been building a rabid and loyal fanbase for several years in and around San Francisco. When I had [...]
