On their latest album, O'Death does a commendable job of combining freak-folk with bluegrass and wrapping it all up in a punk attitude. Though the songs they write are consistently well composed and performed, enjoyment of the band will depend on whether or not you're looking for a band capable of taking itself seriously – because O'Death aren't really about that. However, that does not stop them from turning out a solid and eclectic album that is consistently enjoyable. The heart of O'Death's sound may be some weird mutation of bluegrass, but the [...]

Johnny Marr conducted a short interview on his official site regarding The Sound Of The Smiths release where he spoke primarily about his involvement in the mastering. A snippet below - johnnymarr.net : Is it true that you were involved in the Mastering ? JM : I had to be. It wasn't going to be done right unless I got involved. I asked the Mastering engineer; Frank Arkwright, who I really rate, to [...]
For reasons that can only be self-destructive, the NME is pushing ahead with its Cool List. Seven years they've been doing this now, and still not learning from their mistakes - which Stereogum helpfully point out: the NME is useless as separating 'cool' from 'notorious': Before talking about NME's seventh annual cool list, it's kind of cool to look quickly at the 2007 Top 10 to see who's still ... cool. Lethal Bizzle? Barely. Amy Winehouse? Lucky to be alive. Ditto Keith Richards. Beth Ditto? No. Last year one, two, and three went, respectively, to Gallows' [...]

A Smiths reunion at Coachella '09? I'm not holding my breath, but at least one writer from The Sun seems to think it is now somehow more possible than in years past. Morrissey turned down 2.8 million pounds from the Coachella organizers in 2006, and had this to say: "I'd rather eat my own testicles than reform The Smiths — and that's saying something coming from a vegetarian." I'm not holding my breath, because I can only do that for like a minute and a half. Two minutes on a good day. [...]

![Damon Albarn To Bring Africa To Englanders [It Began In Africa]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1298846_lg.jpg)
BBC's Electric Proms feature a number of Britain's hottest acts in various contexts, but the likely highlight is Damon Albarn's Africa Exprez, a collaboration between African pop stars and Brits like Johnny Marr and Hard-Fi. Clearly, Albarn's dedicated to the music of Africa, releasing quite a bit of it through his Honest Jon's label and including Tony Allen in his The Good, The Bad, And The Queen project. But is a jam session between Baaba Maal and a guy from Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly the best way to expose a nation to the music of a continent? [...]

12) Johnny Marr (The Smiths): Never one for a lot of flash, but with tons of taste and style, Johnny Marr can--and apparently will--play with anyone who asks. A friendly sort, the only person who apparently won't work with him anymore is the man who needs him most. But then again if Morrissey and Marr were to join forces once again and the results turned out anything less than wonderful (a very likely scenario if history be one's guide in these matters) it would make both men look incredibly foolish. And we know Morrissey would never do anything that anyone [...]

Can I just have a really huge fangirl moment? Two of my favorite people in the entire world. Recreating (albeit through bad special effects and repeats) MY FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME?? Holy shit. I hear the Smiths version, I hear Peter singing and Johnny playing, I also hear Sandy Shaw's version.... OMG. This is the most wonderful video I've possibly ever seen in my entire pointless existance.
Watch the duo perform a brief rendition of 'Jeane' below. Smiths MP3 at bottom. MP3: The Smiths - Panic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =INgXzChwipY The Smiths, "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" (Sire, 1986) The YouTube description for the Smiths' video for "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" says it all: "Arguably one of the best songs ever written." Hackum1 , whoever you are, we couldn't agree more. The video though? Well, maybe not so much. You'd think Morrissey, Marr and those other guys would want the clip for The Queen Is Dead' s shining moment to be a [...]
