Joie de Vivre have reformed after a somewhat brief break-up , and are planning a European tour. There are currently no plans for US shows or a tour, but the band writes they are "sure they will come though." In addition, the band plans to release a new album in 2012 on Count Your Lucky Stars Records. Joie de Vivre last released The North End in 2010, before splitting up earlier this year. You can read the full announcement here .
A beautiful, bright musical experience featuring one of the best voices in the business.

>> Do you remember all the confusion about Yuck and Yu(c)k , how the latter was a side project of the former? Probably not, these are the things that trouble only the most ridiculously fanatic among us. Our position on this was why bother confusing us, just pick one name and we'll accept the fact that you make guitar music and quieter music. Well, our unspoken and un-offered advice has gone unheeded, but the good news is that things are now somewhat less confusing . Yu(c)k is now Oupa . We know, you are relieved. [...]

A few weeks ago I had the lucky (or unlucky depending on how you view it) fortune of meeting Brandon and Patrick from the band Joie De Vivre and having a few too many beers with them. That chance meeting made me think about the fact that I hadn't written about their band's album, The North End yet. The album was just recently released on vinyl by Count Your Lucky Stars Records , and (while I haven't heard it on vinyl) I can tell you that these songs channel all your favorite mid to late [...]

Joie De Vivre is back in what is almost exactly a year later with their debut full-length album The North End , once again through Count Your Lucky Stars. I was pretty into what they were doing on their EP Summer Months back in April of last year, by touching upon a lot of the great qualities that inhabited plenty of mid-nineties midwesterny emo bands. While originally intrigued by the band, I was most definitely a bit hesitant to hear them at the time. [...]

Another band I've been meaning to write about for what seems like forever is Joie De Vivre . These guys call nearby Rockford, IL (where my brother-in-law Tim grew up) home and have a sound that harkens back to mid-90's post-indie Midwestern emo. The band emailed me months ago asking for me to take a listen and Will over at Sound As Language also put them on my radar, but (like always) it took me a little while to finally get to this. Now there have been a slew of [...]

Got an email from Will at Beartrap PR about some new artists he's handling. Already with a monster impressive lineup of bands and artists(Boris Smile, The Color Wheels, Driving On City Sidewalks, Look Mexico, and Paper The Operator to name a few), Will shares music from several more bands we'll feature over the next week or two. First up is a Rockford, Illinois, downtempo/minimalist band called Joie De Vivre. Probably named for the french term "Joy of living" and not the chain of hotels, this band has a sound that I was absolutely hooked on after the first listen. Band [...]

Teaching kids that were born the year I graduated from high school is sometimes a slightly demoralizing experience. I like to consider myself a relatively "cool" guy - down with the kids, so to speak. But nearly every day my students come up with some bit of slang that just mystifies it entirely. Clearly they aren't as awed in my presence as they should be or they would be speaking in proper English. After all, I am a university lecturer. I guess the sad fact is, that I'm just getting old. Verging on that stereotypical aging hipster that you generally [...]

No Rock And Roll Fun is such a great name for a music blog...pretty good song to boot too. Anywho, I love it when they talk about music news (which is like, 95% of their blog), here are some nuggets from the weekend: Seriously, Why Not A Operation Ivy Reunion? (OOH!) Kid Rock goes digital The unabomber of pop, Kid Rock, has finally struck a deal to sell his music online - but only because Real Networks have [...]

I was just introduced to this emo band from Rockford, Illinois. If you are a fan from Taking Back Sunday, The Honorary Title or Straylight Run then u r gonna scream for these 5 kids. They currently released their debut EP The Ghost and it is gnarly incredible! 6 songs that I just can't stop listening. Unfortunately the EP is not available digitally yet & the physical copy can only be found at their gigs (no gigs at the moment... F*CK that's right). Don't get frustrated though.. I got some exclusives below that will keep [...]
