From the first moment I heard Erika Spring 's angelic "oh, in the danger zone," over Airbird & Napolian 's gigantic beats and slap bass, I knew something special was about to happen. By the time it ended, I felt like it was over far too quickly for such a wonderfully composed track. It was over as quickly as I fell in love with it. While not much is known about Airbird & Napolian just yet, Cascine promises a proper full length by the end of the year... which we eagerly await. The first [...]
Eluusif is back doing his rounds again, and unlike most postmen who always ring twice, Eluusif knocks once, twice and thrice for DJ/producers Joker and Basement Jaxx. JOKER x BASEMENT JAXX - Oh My Gully (Eluusif Mashup)

Out a couple of days ago via his own Kapsize label, Joker returns with The Face Off EP. Dropping his distinctive purple funk across all four tracks, the release is exactly what you'd expect from him. Overall, the release is really impressive, with the opening track, Zim Zimma even pulling proudly on some hair metal guitar licks over typical piano stabs, and the third track Handz Up surprisingly getting some trance-like treatment. Newham Generals rounds off the EP with the most lairy of all the tracks, channelling all the strengths of the previous tracks into one bold and bashy beast [...]

DC Collectibles announced today that two statues based on the sensational art of Greg Capullo would be released in the fall. This frightening rendition of The Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker steps right out of the pages of the best-selling Batman: Death of The Family. The best-selling line of black and white statues continues with an amazing rendition of the Dark Knight sculpted in the unique style of superstar artist Greg Capullo. [...]

By @ khal for DoAndroidsDance.com Interesting week for EDM. While I spent almost an hour debating the term "EDM" with a few Europeans, Insomniac announced that the Electric Daisy Carnival was going to London . Figure that one out. That's neither here nor there, though. Enjoy these tracks, mixes, and videos as much as DAD did this week. Coki's "Spring Break" Mix One of the best dubstep mixes of the year, so far. Coki did this for Skream & Benga 's BBC Radio 1 show, and it owns. [...]

By @ khal for DoAndroidsDance.com We're a week removed from Ultra Music Festival (not like you guys care). Doesn't stop the music train, and surprisingly, there's a grip of pretty sick music out there. We're screaming for cats to be brought in, reminiscing over classic ragga jungle, and bringing lovely trap-infused beauty from Australia. Kw Griff – “Bring In The Katz (Crookers Version)” This cut is one of the more infectious Baltimore club bangers, and Crookers finally released his remixed version . BRING IN THE CATS! Hudson Mohawke – [...]

After three years of feverish anticipation, Joker finally dropped his debut and no one was pleased. Chalk it up to the combination of unreasonable expectations and an attempt to get that Magnetic Man money. But times have changed. Quiet as kept, Joker has continued to refine his aesthetic, dropping occasional one-offs that typically get ignored by most of the American media who don't treat "Bangarang" as a four letter word. The time is ripe for a comeback. For one, every white trap Yahoo with a newfound appreciation for Young [...]

It looks like everyone's favorite purple-loving producer, Joker, has returned. His new single, "Newham Generals", is a punch-in-the-gut banger accentuated by bright synthesizers and heavier-than-heavy bass. It stems from his forthcoming The Face Off EP, which drops April 15 and has easily worked its way up my anticipated releases list. Seriously, this is great. You can listen below. [ via ]
He back. Oh damn straight he back. https://soundcloud.com/factmag /joker-newham-generals Joker, one-time poster boy of dubstep is back. And he ain't compromising. New Track 'Newham Generals' named after these guys is riot of bass and nosebleed synth with hard kicking drums that are worthy of GBH. Joker, more famously known for his big dubstep remixes of Beth Ditto and Sub Focus, is back with a less 'gimmicky' sound. And its been pretty long overdue. For too long we have been spoon fed FUTURE BASS and POST DUBSTEP. well how's about we just take [...]

Dub, grime and garage enthusiast, Terror Danjah , has announced he will be releasing a compilation of largely unreleased tracks through his own Hardrive label. With only a little rest between the release of his second LP, 'Dark Crawler', and the news of this compilation, you have to wonder where he finds the time. This new compilation features some of the scene's finest productions, showcasing tracks from Champion, Royal T, and Bok Bok, as well as Joker and Terror Danjah's rework 'Gully Brook Lane', one of Danjah's most underrated tracks to [...]

By @ khal for DoAndroidsDance.com This was a good week for EDM, from the trap that everyone seems to be going giddy for (hell, Good Morning America rinsed the "Harlem Shake" OUT Friday morning during a story) to new drum & bass from Alix Perez, and a mouth-watering new track from Laidback Luke. Plus, The M Machine for the win. Don't take my word for it, though. The hell do I know? The M Machine - "Tiny Anthem" This week, we covered a lot of M Machine goodness, [...]

"If you don't know, check out the bass," toasts JME on this mix from Joker and Swindle, honoring the third birthday of instrumental grime kings, Butterz. With the honorable Son Raw , somewhere in Southeast Asia, smoking spliffs and enjoying a long sabbatical from the madness of the Internet, there's a void for fire alarm-frantic and futuristic music. Thankfully, this fits the bill. Joker returns to his roots to cook up some raw brain-squelching synthesizers. Swindle ensures that things stay funky and not too dissonant. Play this loud enough and you could get fired or at the very least [...]

Yesterday we got a brief clip of a set from Elijah & Skilliam from the Butterz Third Birthday blowout in London last week. The next mix to roll in comes from heavyweights Swindle and Joker going back to back for an hour with support from surprise chart entering spitter JME along with Skepta. It's got that Swindle funk, the signature purple Joker sound, great emceeing, and even some unreleased collaborative goodies. Could you really want anything more? The set is available to stream below courtesy of RBMA Radio.
Butterz is 3! To celebrate their birthday, they're throwing a bumper event with a bumper lineup this Saturday at Cable in London. The line-up features the usual Butterz squadron of Grime... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

If 2011 was the year I dove headlong into local music , then 2012 was the year that I really began to dissect and discern the artists and the community that create the music (or at least I hope that's something of the impression that I've been leaving on the pages of this blog). Among the multitude of reasons I continue to do this, lying near the top, is watching local artists develop and grow (or in many cases, regress)—the choices they make, the strategies they employ, the trends they embrace. It's a fascinating slice of human theater and [...]

Apologies for these much-too-late lists that are about to get splashed on the pages of this blog, but I feel like my time in 2012 got cutoff before I could make my closing statements and wrap my head around what transpired last year. I'll try to keep things brief and tidy as possible, but I've been known to let my words get away from me some, and there's considerable ground to cover. Hopefully you'll indulge me. With that let's turn our attention to local videos, which seemed to be in scarcer supply than they were in 2011. And [...]
After releasing her critically acclaimed album Devotion last summer, Jessie Ware is ready to take to the U.S. with her latest work the If You're Never Going to Move EP. The British R&B singer - who is currently on a limited tour in support of her U.S. releases - was first heard with artists such as Joker and SBTRKT, before taking the stage on her own. If You're Never Going to Move is another heartfelt output from the South [...]

For some reason, I'd been avoiding buying this album, despite finding it in my dollar bin dives nearly every week. See, when I was a neophyte dumpster diver, back in high school, this album was already a regular flip in the bins on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. Since Snail were a local band (sort of, they're from Santa Cruz which is loosely a part of the SF Bay Area) they've always been around the local record shops. And Cream Records was notoriously awful at promoting rock bands, like Legs Diamond, that really should've hit a bigger audience. [...]
