a lot of sites have "gone black" today in opposition to sopa, which if dont know what i am talking about that video down there breaks it down very well. i thought about not posting, but why censor myself, when others are trying to do the same thing. if anything, i think some folks should be posting more, maybe pushing some limits. these limits not being in an "illegal" fashion, but something outside the norm. im probably talkin out of my ass, as per usual. but, after watching that video, you'll understand in what a super grey area my site [...]

katy perry - the one that got away ( acoustic version ) [i've been hoping for an acoustic version of this song since the beginning and here we have it! produced by jon brion, this is glorious!] http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld

The maestro numero Uno, Jon Brion can make anything sound like a Mozart sonnet. Well, maybe not exactly, but...... during his downtime from reworking THE Fiona Apple new long one, he reworked Katy Perry 's (already hit) The One That Got Away in a deliciously stripped down version. Of course, this is not a ploy to get more chart push for the song, is it? IDK but I love it... I did like the other version too though & I know this song is supposed to be about a [...]
"One of Harry's most underrated tunes comes from his 1980 soundtrack score for Popeye. Like a lot of Harry's best work, the charm of "He Needs Me" is in its simplicity, which was ably enhanced by actress Shelley Duvall's fragile, off-key vocal allure. Outstanding pop composer Jon Brion ( The Grays ), understood the song's appeal when he used it as the centerpiece for director Paul Thomas Anderson's, Punch-Drunk Love. We've got three Harry "covers" from the soundtrack; "Overture" (featuring orchestrated elements of the composition), "He Needs Me" (the soundtrack's sonically refurbished and enhanced version of Shelly Duvall's 1980 original) and "He Really Needs [...]
Filed under: News Jesse Grant/Getty Images for Global Green Last week, drummer Ali Koehler announced via Twitter that she was no longer a part of grunge-pop outfit Best Coast . "Cat's outta the bag, I'm not in Best Coast anymore," she wrote before linking out to a Hipsterrunoff post detailing the split. Koehler, who left Vivian Girls to join Best Coast, added that the departure was "not my choice." [...]
The King is dead, long live the Queen: This week marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Freddie Mercury, Queen frontman and rock mega-idol.

Jon Brion in 2008 / photo by Yenna Friday night was a very unusual night at Largo. Not that any evening in Los Angeles' best venue is ever uneventful, but Friday felt strange from the moment I took my seat. Jon Brion's usual set-up-a drum set, bass, guitar rack and his trusty piano on stage right-was transformed, the rhythm section replaced by a second, larger piano. His looping pedals were notably absent. He took the stage in a pinstriped three-piece suit and performed the only completely acoustic set I've ever seen him play, [...]

How do I even begin to describe this mashup? Relaxing? Chill? Stress-free? All of the above? While I'm not a massive fan of chill mashups - I prefer fast-paced upbeat party style mashes - I just had to throw this track up. Reason? Because it's damn good. Brenton Duvall gives us "Phone Rings Goodbye" and I'm captivated. Vocally, Mike Posner 's "Save Your Goodbye" is a perfect fit with Jon Brion 's "Phone Call." While I may be a couple days late on this one, a track like this one is good forever. Download: [...]

Best Coast at LPR ( more by Amanda Hatfield ) Best Coast are "Beyond thrilled to announce that the incredibly talented Jon Brion will be producing the next Best Coast album. Recording begins in a few weeks in LA. More news on the way." Upcoming public/regular shows for Best Coast include two LA shows, one of which is on New Year's Eve with Wanda Jackson , and a trip to Australia in January for the Big Day Out Festival [...]
One cool thing about following artists on Twitter is watching their fruition. After catching budding production beast Brenton Duvall applauding Mike Posner here and there over the past year or [...]
Videos rarely emerge from Largo (and Rawkblog does not endorse taking them!), but whenever they do, they're always so remarkable that I can't help but repost. Here's a killer version of Fiona Apple's 1999 classic "Fast As You Can," which probably has my favorite bridge of all time.

Photo by David Greenwald While Fool's Gold's Lewis Pesacov did a fine job on Best Coast's Crazy For You , I can't complain at his replacement: Rawkblog hero Jon Brion will team up with Bethany and Snacks for LP2, a move that shouldn't be surprising considering the band's recent infatuation with Largo. Per Best Coast's Facebook , recording starts in L.A. "in a few weeks." Brion recently scored Miranda July's The Future and is currently at work on 2012 release ParaNorman .

photos by Eric Townsend "I hope he adds a fourth too," I exclaimed when the third Jon Brion show at Le Poisson Rouge was announced. That third show was last night (10/4), and today our wish came true! Brion has added a fourth (and final?) show Le Poisson Rouge on 10/9 (four days from now). Tickets are on sale. I hope he adds a fifth! (it [...]
