Spoon's Britt Daniel doing demos with Jon Brion: Best news ever. Jon, you'll remember, produced Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga standout "The Underdog." Spoon's next album may not be ready till 2010, which means they'll get to duke it out with the National for album of the year again. [Texas Monthly]
If you're in Los Angeles next-next weekend, I strongly urge you to go see Sean Nelson (of Harvey Danger) perform the songs of Harry Nilsson at The Largo's Little Room . The show is Saturday February 21 at 10pm, all ages, $15 at the door. It is literally a little room that holds less than 100 people, so you'd definitely be in for a treat. While there are lush arrangements on the finished but never released Nelson Sings Nilsson album, this'll be a stripped down guitar/piano/vocal show. And if you're really lucky, [...]

Jon Brion recently released a remix EP full of reinterpretations of Of Montreal's "First Time High" and "Gallery Piece". Wow, using "of" twice consecutively reads really weird. Even if "Of Montreal" is a proper noun...Anyways, check out an enjoyable fleshed out version of "First Time High"! Not sure what albums to spend your hard-earned cash on this week? Well, my friends, this is exactly what the Daily Graboid is all about! Take a sample of the new releases this week, and maybe you'll find something you didn't expect to discover. This week's highlights include new records from The Bird and the Bee , Loney Dear , and Cotton Jones (Michael Nau of Page France ). Or maybe you would be interested in something more familiar like Bruce Springsteen's or Franz Ferdinand's latest. [...]

Producer Jon Brion, most known for scoring the films Magnolia, Synechdoche NY, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind , has taken two tracks from of Montreal's latest release, Skeletal Lamping, and completely reworks them. These songs stand apart from your average remixes, as Brion has added various instrumentation and backing vocals, resulting in wonderfully nintendo-rrific reinterpretations. I'm not going to lie, of Montreal is one of my favorite bands going, but even for non-fans, this is one hell of a juicy remix EP. Head on over to Polyvinyl and pick it up . MP3: [...]

Photo by Existenzminimum Pitchfork gave away a remix by Jon Brion taken from the new Of Montreal's EP titled Jon Brion Remix . Pitchfork talks a little on the twists that Jon Brion adapted on the song: "keeps the same general feel, perhaps adding a few more instruments and amplifying the color saturation a couple of notches. It also seems to give the song a more linear feel that serves it well." The EP is available [...]
Of Montreal - First Time High This tune is actually a Jon Brion reinterpretation of 'An Eluardian Instance'! Visit Of Montreal on MySpace. Earlier this week, Kevin Barnes performed an acoustic set for ITN. MP3: Of Montreal - First Time High
My newfound superlove for Jon Brion (check Katy Perry version below and you would be convinced) reached new heights today while surfing the way too small amount of YouTube clips available with this amazing talent. He'd done music scores for Punch Drunk Love, Magnolia and produced a hell of a lot of different stuff. Kaney West etc. Not only did I find beautiful pieces of music, but I read about a

In 13 days from now I will defean my neighbours. Either due to the loudness of playing Jon Brion's remix of tracks from Of Montreal's Skeletal Lamping or else just from hollering with delight. Either way, the 16th of January will be a great day.

i've had as difficult time finding time for sand is overrated this holiday season as i ever have, i'm extremely late to get this list out, and i have so much other work to do. so what do i decide to do? expand my year-end track list from 20 to 30 songs. i guess that's an indication of how much great music was out there this year. even though i've written about so little of it over the year, i was definitely listening, and in the end i just couldn't leave out tracks by m83, thao, [...]
I have a love/hate relationship with Christmas music. I genuinely love it, but there are rules. First, I'm a big Grinch about playing Christmas music early. I'm stricter than most people on this issue, but can't we all agree that Thanksgiving is the absolute earliest date to break out the sleigh bells? Also, I understand that the holidays are all about tradition, but there is too much really excellent Christmas music out there to accept listening to the same bad '50s schmaltz every year. With those sentiments (and a little Christmas cheer) I offer up the [...]
If there is an additional perk of the Thanksgiving holiday, it has to be the sudden barrage of Christmas movie trailers and the downtime after feasting that beckons you to go catch a flick. After waiting a long time for the release and finally finding a theatre that carried the limited movie, I got to watch what has easily been my favorite film to grace the silver screen within the past few years. Charlie Kaufman is, without a doubt, my favorite screenwriter of all time and may currently be the best in Hollywood by all accounts. [...]

Last night's gig was my first time seeing Jon Brion in his new house since the move from Fairfax, and sure enough, he was right at home. After his final two shows at Largo The First brought my JB concert tally up to six back in April, I figured we both needed a vacation, and he certainly returned well-rested. [Continue reading...] He invited the audience to join him on two sing-alongs, one incredible (Bowie's "Space Oddity") and one "Democratic" as Jon jovially cut us [...]

Everything Jon Brion touches turns to gold. Well maybe not the new Dido album, but some of those songs are so much better due to his input. Stereogum has a free download of the legendary producer's remix of Of Montreal's 'Gallery Piece', and it, as expected, sounds fantastic. MySpacin ', soundtrackin' madman Jon Brion is Laura Katz's guest today on Automatic Stapler on UCLAradio.com from 4-6pm PST -- presumably he'll be kicking out a rare set of solo jams. Much like this one below. Don't miss it! Jon Brion - "Ruin My Day" (live, solo piano): mp3 Hear Jon live on UCLAradio.com .

It's pronounced sin-NECK-doh-key. Say it fast and you got it. Don't let some punk kid at the box office correct you condescendingly as if he's used the word in conversation the last decade. The great Charlie Kaufman, who is responsible for this, is also responsible for some of the most outrageous and inspiring scripts made in mainstream Hollywood. If you go down the list, he's literally never taken a misstep tying his material with the proper director. He's been blessed with Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and of course George Clooney as directors. I walked out of this complete [...]
