Recent profiles of Jon Stewart, by Tom Junod in Esquire and Pele, by Brian Phillips in Grantland , revel in taking down the greatness of the two men. Here's Junod on Stewart : Was Jon Stewart being a dick when he was subjecting Jim Cramer to enhanced interrogation? Sure he was. He was also being a dick when he called Tucker Carlson a dick, and when he was preaching to Chris Wallace. But here's the thing: It doesn't matter. What matters is that even when Stewart's a [...]

Long forgiven for beating out Justin Bieber for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2011 — perhaps because of her star-making "In Memorium" performance at this year's Academy Awards — Esperanza Spalding and her band performed two songs off her new album Radio Music Society on The Daily Show Thursday night (Apr. 12). With her bass slung low, the lovely vocalist charmed the audience — and extended the invitation to [...]

Time to clean up the tab attic a bit with some of the interesting tidbits found around the web. 1. Matt Groening, "The Simpsons" creator and Portland native, tells Smithsonian magazine that he named the famous fictional city after a city in Oregon . Thus ends a decades long debate about where Springfield was actually located. Not entirely surprising, given many of the character names on the show are derived from streets in Portland. [ via ] 2. Jon Stewart and The Daily Show did a tech-twofer last night taking [...]

I left my book in the car, because I had taken it to jury duty. So as I prepared for my evening reading I asked my husband where the latest "Rolling Stone" was. He scoffed at the cover and sneered, "You gonna read about Bruce Springsteen?" I feel sorry for him, never having experienced the awe and genius that is Bruce Springsteen. But I digress. No, in fact, I was too tired to read an entire article that night. I just wanted to read the blurbs. It was the [...]

Many potential Great GoogaMooga attendees were frustrated today in their efforts to sign up for free admission to the two-day food, drink and music festival , which is set to take place in Neathermead Meadow at Brooklyn's Prospect Park on May 19 and 20. Eventbrite, the company handling registration for the Brooklyn-based event, has updated the details on the sign-up page to read "Early registration is full. We apologize for the frustrations you had today in registering. If you haven't been able to register yet please email us at info@googamooga.com." There was also a note [...]

Back in 1994, neither Quentin Tarantino or Jon Stewart were household names. Tarantino was on the cusp of changing independent film making with the release of Pulp Fiction (seriously, it's one of the most influential movies of the 90s and perhaps of all-time). It would, of course, be another decade before Jon Stewart left his mark on culture, but the seeds of his Daily Show persona are evident in this awesome interview. Any other movie nerds depressed that 1994 Jon Stewart doesn't know who Sergio Leone is? That's just unconscionable. [via reddit ]

It is according to the dude who took it sometime during the 1980s, Irish Willis Peele! It's hard to tell for sure, but I buy it. At least, I'd like to think that my favorite faux news anchor is the kind of dude who once would have jumped into the pit. Stewart - who still would have [...]

Autograph and photo courtesy of the G Archives. Jon Stewart When I met today's birthday boy, Jon Stewart, I never imagined he'd become the megastar he is today. I am not saying that because I don't think he's talented, because in fact, I think just the opposite. I think he is great. It's just that people that tell the truth are often ridiculed and cast out from society. Stewart has made a healthy and successful career out of it and it thrills me to no end! I wish more people [...]

This week Tony Bennett's Duets II became his first #1 album on the Top 200 chart in his 60-year career. To keep the momentum going, the New York crooner hit up Jon Stewart's politically-charged talk show The Daily Show last night. Ironically, Bennett's recent controversial comments about 9/11 didn't come up in conversation at all. Instead, the pair talked about the late Amy Winehouse, who Tony called "the only singer that sang what I call 'the right way'." Bennett [...]

This weekend was Nirvana mania on SiriusXM's Lithium channel. 24 hours a day is being devoted to nothing but Nirvana. Studio tracks, rarities, b-sides, live shows, you name it and they're playing it. The whole ordeal culminated in The Daily Show host Jon Stewart's 2-hour interview with remaining members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Nevermind producer Butch Vig. It's quite interesting to listen to the three reminisce about the making of the album, how it changed everything for them. If you missed the show, no sweat, you can download the whole thing [...]

In addition [...]

The 20th anniversary of Nevermind is a monumental occasion. It's the album that made everyone know who Nirvana was, the album that many feel changed the landscape of rock music and, for some, the album that got people into rock music. Even though Kurt Cobain is no longer here, former bassist Krist Novocelic, former drummer/Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and Nevermind producer Butch Vig sat down to reminisce about the making of the album. The Daily Show host Jon Stewart moderated a discussion at Sirius/XM satellite radio with the [...]

Last Saturday in New York City, Jon Stewart led a "town hall" Q&A and chat with surviving Nirvana bandmembers Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Nevermind's producer Butch Vig. If you weren't there live in person, you could have listened to it on SiriusXM radio. If you don't have satellite radio, you were pretty much S.O.L. until now. Take a listen to the entire thing below and watch a brief video. Also, head over to RollingStone.com for a recap. ...
