Denver's answer to TV on the Radio, Jonathan and Bpro , is celebrating tonight with a CD release party at the Larimer Lounge. The guys performed one of my favorite sets from the Westword Music Festival and definitely brought the ruckus. The polished production sounds leaps and bounds better than the EP's they were slinging and the EPs sounded mighty damn fine. Jonathan and Bpro-Hypnotized [mp3] Saturday August 21 [...]

There's a lot going on tonight and tomorrow, and all of it's going down at Hi-Dive. There's a huge bill tonight that involves Denver kid, the Chain Gang of 1974 and the album release party for "White Guts". The 3OH!3 party monger will be celebrating his first full length (official release date April 26th) with a bill that includes American Tomahawk (new group w/member from Young Coyotes) and one of my local faves, Jonathan + BPro . The Chain Gang of 1974- "STOP!" (MP3) [...]

I picked my favorite songs from albums that didn't make my Best Albums of 2009 (to appear later this week). The songs appear in no sequential order. Memory Tapes-Stop Talking[mp3] Calvin Harris-You Used to Hold Me [mp3] Jonathan and BPro-Turn it Up [mp3] Hurricane Bells-This Year [mp3] Ola Podrida-Your Father's Basement [mp3] CFCF-Monolith [mp3] Thrift Store Cowboys-In the Clear [mp3] Holiday [...]

Tonight's bill at the Hi-Dive is a no-brainer. The Chain Gang of 1974 is a one man army (and he's also the guy behind the drum set for 3OH!3 on tour) , Jonathan + B-Pro is the second coming of Prince with more balls and dare I say better dance moves, and Rhinoceropolis regulars Jospehine & the Mousepeople. Show starts at 10. Phoenix-1901 (The Chain Gang of 1974 Remix) [mp3] Jonathan + B-Pro -Hypnotized [mp3] [...]
Is it safe to say that the city of John Elway Denver is going through a Renaissance period? The talent sprouting on the scene is becoming more of a presence and more noticeable from around the country. The latest on the scene is Jonathan + BPro . The duo bring a Prince meets TV on the Radio persona to the stage (I haven't seen them live, but what I can see on video and word of mouth). Those two references alone make my all jumpy inside. The clash of early 90's R&B meets [...]
