If Guineafowl and Jonathan Boulet are your sorta men then it's about time you met Carl Fox . He comes out of Perth and usually works in three piece called Good Little Fox , but the recent release of solo disc Chunky Rainbow has allowed him to exchange his strings for some keys. It's full of the "inditroninca" required oohs and ahhs, a few glitches, some cute female back up and a generally down tempo relaxed sorta feel. Oh and he's a babe. [...]

It should be quite clear to anyone who has been following my mixtapes over the last year that I suffer dearly from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). While I've tried many a remedy, the only medication that seems to work is a carefully constructed playlist which bridges the transition from one season to the next. So what you'll find in this installment of my seasonal mixtape series is a trip through the denial of the season's change to a few songs that sound like the early Winter months, some that echo the deepest doldrums of January, and a few sweet tunes [...]

Weekly Playlist 19 features Florence and the Machine, The xx, Harlem Shakes, Jonathan Boulet, Montpelier, Danimals and The Medics. Florence and the Machine - You've Got The Love (The XX Remix) It's the xx.. so of course this track makes it in. A bipolar take on Florence and the Machine's You've Got The Love which only the xx could pull off. Download the track here . Harlem [...]

Education is not everything. When Jonathan Boulet was 5 years old, his parents got him piano lessons. Little Jono however wasn't too fond of his teacher and climbed into the tallest tree and refused to climb back down until the teacher had left. But it didn't end his musical career. A good 15 years later Jonathan Boulet has released his debut album which he recorded entirely in his garage. Boulet didn't only record and produce the album himself, he also plays almost every single instrument. Who needs a piano anyway? [...]
"North To South East To You" is the new single by Jonathan Boulet, from his self-titled debut. Directed by Kiwi krew Special Problems.
Like the Not Squares video recently , most of the time it's the simple concepts that work the best for music videos. In this case, bodyslamming in the wall of death. Shot beautifully by Special Problems . Jonathan Boulet is from Sydney, Australia and is signed to Modular. The tune above reminds me of Grizzly Bear's 'Deep Blue Sea' sung by Kevin Drew. Here's a great remix of his by The Album Leaf . MP3: Jonathan Boulet - A Community Service Announcement (The [...]

jonathan boulet - a community service announcement jonathan boulet - north to south east to you [from V Magazine: Jonathan Boulet is the 20 year old Australian wunderkind whose music is both poignant and intelligent, but with a beauty so sincere it feels like a crime not to embrace. Boulet writes anthemic folk-pop born out of a world of endless campfires and tribal jam sessions. The prodigiously talented Boulet wrote, recorded, produced and played almost every instrument in his tiny garage studio, using whatever means necessary to [...]

Wow. It was one year ago today that I squeezed out my first post as The Burning Ear and 411 posts later and here we are. It's amazing how fast time flies and how much great music can come out in a year. Birthday's are a time for celebration and gift giving so I've wrangled together a little something for all of you to celebrate with. Over the past 12 months a number of great tracks have found a happy home in my stereo but for whatever reason or another I never covered them on the site. As a 1st [...]

Triple J radio Australia has deemed Jonathan Boulet's debut album, Triple J Album of the Week, as such are playing it all week long throughout the holiday week. They recently have posted a video from the single "Community Service Announcement" and have blogged that they are working on another video from the album. Here's a couple of songs off the album besides the ever popular "Community Service Announcement". The band's recent popularity got them a record deal with Modular Records (Eskimo Joe, Ben Lee, The Avalanches, Wolfmother, Cut Copy, The Bumblebeez, Van She, Rocket Science, [...]

I had a hell of a lot of trouble getting this list together. Relistening to albums, figuring out which ones to cull from my list. I rediscovered some great great discs though. And my top 10 will be just below...for you! But first off, I feel as though there are a few albums I should give a small shout out to. Although these discs didn't make my top 10 list, they did make my shortlist (a list that ended up being not very short at all)...and man it was difficult trying to cull that down. So, [...]
"A precociously inspired 21 year old skate rat from Sydney's northwest" Modular Jonathan Boulet 's self-titled debut is a late contender for my top album list. I must admit though, that after my first listen I was a little unsure. Two things came to mind. Either this dude is on the cusp of musical greatness and this album is a small bit DIY genius…or, the guy's a little try hard for my liking. Music with that DIY sound straddles that line a fair bit I reckon. [...]

click image to view artist in itunes Sounds like: Sufjan Stevens, Patrick Watson, Freelance Whales What's so good? Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oy Oy Oy! Another talented and remarkably young Australian artist, Jonathan Boulet is tearing up sound waves the world over - he's getting good airtime on my side, at least. At barely 21 years of age, Boulet writes folk-pop that'll take you straight to the world of endless campfires and tribal jam sessions. What's remarkable is [...]

This kid is great. Hailing from Down Under, this 21 year-old musician wrote/composed/recorded all of his tunes in his tiny garage. The guitar riffs are amazing. It actually sounds like something that would come out of Scandanavian band. Its folk-y pop is very relaxing to listen to. Putting up the best remix of the song too. Heading into the Holiday season, I was making a list of all the things that I am really thankful for. After the health and happiness of my friends, I feel really fortunate that I get to receive, critique and talk about music with passionate fans, musicians and other bloggers for fun. After discussing this with friends, we admitted that we've all heard tracks this year that deserved more credit than they received when initially released. Knowing that they won't receive much support at commercial radio doesn't make things better so if they've got a cool video with [...]

ok. So this isn't exactly a post about new music. It does however have a track that I am loving at the moment. Jonathan Boulet is a young dude from Sydney who has just signed to MAAMF's favourite, Modular Records . The track, Community Service Announcement has an awesome video , even being raved on about by...Ima let you finish, but I'm a little bit of a wanker man. What's best about the original, and this remix done by the awesome Album Leaf , is that it makes me happy. It makes me glad to [...]

If magic chickens made music instead of golden eggs, I think we'd see something along the lines of this lot. The mix is here . Mainframe is a new light 'n beaty instrumental from Kris Menace under the name Love on Laserdisc. EP out soon. Love on Laserdisc - Mainframe Favourites of last week's tape , Fear of Tigers and Edwin Van Cleef (who I incorrectly said was French when he's actually from Leeds - oops!), come [...]

I'm about eight years late to this party apparently, but I still think this video of 'Since I Left You' by Melbourne's The Avalanches is worth a look. I caught it on Rage this morning and was quite charmed! Make sure you stick with it til the end, won't you? It's really quite gorgeous. Since I Left You - The Avalanches Another video I came across was 'A Community Service Announcement' by Sydney's Jonathan Boulet. The video [...]
