Ah... Sweden. To those who love indie pop, the very word brings to mind carefree, sweet melodies. Continuing this great trend is Jonna Lee , a singer-songwriter whose pop makes me imagine a crisp spring morning in Stockholm (which is probably nothing like a real morning in Stockholm, but hey, this American mind can imagine!). On her debut ablum, 10 Pieces, 10 Bruises , Pianos and acoustic guitars float along, and Jonna's voice fits right in with the gentle pop; her voice has a breathy quality that really makes the gentler moments of the [...]

Well, it's Valentine's Day... again. It may be a happy day of love or a crappy day of its absence, but at least we have some good tunes. These songs have two things in common- 1)the word "love" in the title, and 2) I like them... Enjoy! "We're Looking for a Lot of Love" - Hot Chip "I Think I'm In Love" - Beck "I Wanna Be Your Lover (Bob Dylan Cover)" - Yo La Tengo [...]
Pitchfork reviews the latest Supersilent record "8" : http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/ article/record_review/47065-8

I remember Jonna Lee's name from the underground indie club night she started in Stockholm called PopMarathon. For a while I used PopMarathon's MySpace page as my own personal A&R service, writing about all the bands Jonna would book at the club. I knew she was a musician/singer/songwriter as well, but just assumed she was more of a budding star than the real thing. Turns out I was wrong. Though this is her "official" album she's put out a number of records including a pop project in her teens. Clearly she's grown [...]

The young woman pictured above is Jonna Lee hailing from Stockholm. She's relatively unknown (well to me anyways) and this is the first song I ever heard from her. Needless to say I'm more than impressed. She covers The Postal Service 's The District Sleeps Alone Tonight in a quieter, more subtle and moving fashion. Her voice is perfect for the song and the emotion that the lyrics invoke. Do you remember Robyn from back on the radio in the 90's? Well just cause she isn't a mainstrem success anymore doesn't mean she's [...]

Its been officially twelve hours since England has banned smoking in pubs, bars, nightclubs, cafes and restaurants, lunch rooms, membership clubs and shopping centres. In fact the UK is now the largest whole nation to ban smoking in such a way and seems to lead the race in banning smoking full stop. There is a mixed opinion of who is right and who is wrong in the no smoking ranks, yes it does mean that our health will benefit by not being in a smoke-ridden environment in pubs but at the same time does that encourage us to spend more [...]

The swedish artist Jonna Lee has just signed to Razzia records , where she will release her new album early this autumn. Razzia is the home of Eardrums-favorites like Säkert!/Hello Saferide, Maia Hirasawa, The Plan, Firefox AK and others, and what we have heard so far from Jonna Lee sounds really promising. The album will be called "10 pieces, 10 bruises", and although this is her official debut, she has already recorded and released several albums and eps before this one. According to her bio, she released a pop-album at the age of 17 (as a part [...]

Nothing has more potential to amaze and infuriate than a cover song. No matter what you do, someone will be angry that their favorite song was desecrated by the hands of a lesser musician. On the other hand, someone will be saying, "It's even better than the original!" In any case, I always like a good cover that dares to stray from the sound of the original and bring a little something of its own to the table. So here they are, a few covers I've always loved, from Dismemberment Plan's tragic reworking of the 80's pop hit [...]

When I was in high school, I loved covers , specially Punk covers. Everyone makes posts about covers and rightfully so, they are awesome. This week I asked bunches of people to tell me what their favorite cover songs are. I got a lot of interesting feedback. Now just because it is a cover doesn't mean it is great, infact lots of covers suck! Hopefully you won't hear those here. I know there are lots of awesome ones and I'm sure you are gunna email me asking [...]
