I have this Friday tradition. Early evening, as each week draws to a close, I often find myself reaching for a single record to kick off the weekend - Jookabox's Dead Zone Boys . The A-side of this 2009 Asthmatic Kitty release is as strong as any material of the last few years. Replete with floor-rattling bass lines, propulsive, jangly guitars and a whitewash of of synth, Dead Zone Boys is an energetic romp of a record. Unfortunately, Jookabox was calling it quits right around the time that this [...]

Tweet Jookabox ,the infectious band out of Indianapolis, have a sound that to describe would come out somewhere along the lines of quazi-electronica meets a garage hip-hop fusion of awesomeness. All I really know is it takes less time to get someone to listen and be impressed than it does to explain why they will be. Jookabox are one of the more unique sounding bands out and they deliver live what they produce on vinyl, something not to be taken for granted. [...]
DMA , the new project from David "Moose" Adamson released a new video for the first single, " Riding Holiday ," from his latest cassette release. The cassette is entitled Dream Beb and will be locally released this Friday at The Earth House . The Friday show will also serve as the final performance of Moose's former band project Jookabox. The " Riding Holiday " video was directed, shot, and edited by Andy "Peecan" Young. Starring Sunflower Man and [...]

Mark from Burnt Ones sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of the q and also a series. q: What is the last song you (really) heard? a: I just listened to "Ballad of Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)" by George Harrison ... it's the last song on a mix I made for the site Mixtape///Mountain . That song is so good ... check the mix out, should be up now or soon or something. Streamable: Ballad of [...]

Now that Indianapolis-based, Asthmatic Kitty project Jookabox has disbanded, lead singer David "Moose" Adamson has unveiled his latest project: DMA . The project's debut album, Dream Beb , will release on June 8th through Joyful Noise Recordings. The album is apparently the first of three albums DMA will release in 2011. Each album will only be available in extremely limited quantities (200 each) on the cassette format with digital download (both MP3 & FLAC). The first cut from [...]

RIYL = Danielson, Akron/Family, Animal Collective Jookabox have graduated (they did awhile ago, actually) from their Grampall days , and have, in the transition, switched out their instruments in preference of playing music reflected off the summer sun. Those thick, rope-beams of light their strings, and with objects of tin, plenty reflected moments of buttery drumming. The repurposing of sunshine for sound is what makes Jookabox the plenty-wonderful maestros of hyper-avant pop music; and dancing. The thought of using the sun this way (and to use the SUN, that in and of itself) [...]

With Coachella done and over with, the music world as whole is left with this magical, intangible feeling. Like, this is the time for some great tunes to fill every molecule of air in the world and usher in some great times. With tons of potentially amazing albums to drop, a slew of festivals coming down the pipeline, and plenty more rays of sunshine beating down on the globe until the first leaves fall, now is the time to feel good. This week’s Friday Mixtape features new music from Com Truise, Ice Age, Seapony, Bahamas, Jookabox, and more, plus loads [...]

Jookabox From: Indianapolis, United States Indianapolis band Jookabox has decided to throw in the towel, and The Eyes of the Fly is their last cryptic transmission via Asthmatic Kitty on April 26, 2011. This recording is the final chapter in the history of a band as bizarre, anxious, and confusing as the music it makes. A band whose imagery echoes ghosts, zombies, decay, and the afterlife, inspired by life in the post-industrial land of white flight, now writes its own epitaph, carves its own [...]

It seems like it's been forever since we got some weirdness on this site, and I see the best way to get that going is with a song from Indianapolis based outfit Jookabox . This track "Drop" is set to be released on the band's upcoming LP entitled The Eyes of the Fly due out April 26th on Asthmatic Kitty . As per usual with this band, I'm digging the beats that make me wanna get my feet moving to the sounds. We also hear that this will be the fourth and final [...]

It is a somewhat sad feeling, here in Indianapolis, to know that Jookabox will release the project's fourth and final album, The Eyes Of The Fly , this coming April 26th through their label Asthmatic Kitty. The project that started as Grampall Jookabox, and finally brought some serious weird to the Indianapolis music scene; it evolved through three more albums and grew into the 4-piece of Jookabox before finally deciding to disolve. David "Moose" Adamson will now continue on as the project start, a solo venture under [...]

Hard to pin down Indianapolis band Jookabox will release their final album, The Eyes of the Fly , on April 26th via Asthmatic Kitty. Listen to "Drops" and check out a couple older videos below. Indianapolis native David "Moose" Adamson's high energy rhythmic banter group Jookabox . After seeing this band last year with So Many Dynamos at Rose Hulman , I gave them a few listens. Their set was rough around the edges at times but a few songs worked their way into my brain. "Phantom Don't Go" and "You Cried Me" were high energy and exciting. In a different setting I believe their set would have been really fun (stiff legged super nerds standing 40 feet away from the stage really kills the vibe.) At one point So Many Dynamos [...]

What a weekend! Radiohead releases, my kids have a sleepover, I throw out my back trying to impress my kid and his friends with my cool Dr. J finger roll, and I completely miss Sunday's post. Oh, well! Radiohead's King of Limbs Released: World Goes Crazy Count me among the many Radiohead fan boys who purchased a digital download of Radiohead's King of Limbs last Friday. I've listened to it at least two dozen times. I like it, but I am [...]

Indianapolis band Jookabox has decided to throw in the towel, and The Eyes of the Fly is their last cryptic transmission via Asthmatic Kitty on April 26. This recording is the final chapter in the history of a band as bizarre, anxious, and confusing as the music it makes. They are a band we’ve always had a soft spot for. A band whose imagery echoes ghosts, zombies, decay, and the afterlife, now writes its own epitaph, carves its own headstone, and sings its swan song. The group began as Grampall Jookabox , a side [...]

Lo-fi rockers Jookabox have decided to call it a day. The Indianapolis-based quartet will be releasing their fourth and final studio effort, The Eyes Of The Fly , on April 26th via Asthmatic Kitty Records . Although fans will be disappointed, there is a silver lining to the news. Founder and frontman Moose Adamson is set to continue on as a solo artist and will be recording and touring in the future under the DMA name, as per the official Jookabox website . Get a sneak peek at The Eyes Of The Fly [...]
