Tweet Confession time. I have a "moderate" obsession with Later...with Jools Holland. Every time it's on I find myself giddy with the enthusiasm of a 14 year old girl watching The Beatles for the first time on Ed Sullivan. In my defense, it's probably the best musical showcase show of the last 25 years. The format is unique, the bands (mostly) always sound good, and it's a great source of finding new music. Even still, sometimes I get more than I bargain for. Back in November [...]
It's a surprise that Florence Welch is still working this song and not promoting the other tracks. Could it be because there is not enough good material on Ceremonials . To us, Flo suffered from the sophomore slump badly. Not an effort that we expected her to release considering Lungs was so complete and sonically pleasing. Jools Holland had some incredible artists on his weekly show last year - here's some of our favourites.
Michael Kiwanuka: Tell Me A Tale (Live on Jools Holland) Fresh from winning the BBC Sound of 2012 gong, Michael Kiwanuka will be a busy man this year. The British soul singer of Ugandan origin has come a long way over the last year, having first popped up on my radar last May with I Need Your Company . His smooth retro-soul melodies sound effortless and unsurprisingly draw inspiration from Otis Reading, Bill Withers and other R&B icons. He released a string of three EP's last [...]

I am not doing predictions, mostly because I can't. I have no idea what is going to be big this year and what isn't, and even if I think a band is going to release something amazing that probably doesn't matter, because bands I love rarely ever get all that famous anyway. But in any case, and in no particular order, here are some things I liked about last year, and some things I didn't. Some stuff I'd like to see more of and some things I am looking forward to, and some things I am not. "Something [...]
Just in case you weren't watching the BBC on Saturday in the middle of the afternoon, here's hometown heroes Pokey LaFarge & the South City Three on Jools Holland's annual Hootenanny. You can s... Continue reading "Watch Pokey LaFarge & the South City Three on Jools Holland's NYE Hootenanny" >

Vaccines, Morrison & Jessie J took part in Holland's annual hootenanny.

15 to Listen Out For in 2012 ? We've mentioned in the past that this tipping malarkey can often arrive deep fried and positively dripping in narcissism, garnished with a large sprinkling of ego- "hey look at me I'm a pop precognitive, I can predict the muthafucking future. And it would be easy to look at The BBC 's "Sound Of" list and slavishly copy much of that, throw in a few left field buzz bands, sit back and watch your big massive [...]
Maybe you have heard of this band Pokey LaFarge & the South City Three? The St. Louis band keeps making progressively larger waves, and on New Years eve the four will appear on the BBC for Jool... Continue reading "Pokey LaFarge & the South City Three to be Featured on Jools Holland's NYE Show" >

Spector stopped recently stopped by Jools Holland to perform their brilliant and one of our favorite tunes of the year 'Never Fade Away.' Expect to see more about this collective in the next coming weeks, for now enjoy the great performance above.

Quickly rising in prominence in the UK behind a stellar Jools Holland appearance , 22 year old Londoner Lianne La Havas will travel stateside in 2012 to tour with Bon Iver behind the release of her 'Lost and Found' EP which came out 11/22. With sultry, smooth, and crystal clear vocals, it will be very interesting to watch Havas' path to success in the coming months. Very talented new artist.

Everyone is talking about this song. We, as you can tell, are not big on the rap scene. So, we will check it out, but meanwhile we are enjoying F+M's version. Björk performing Crystalline from her album 'Biophilia' live on Later with Jools Holland 22nd November 2011. deepgoa.blogspot.com underground music guide _________ © dg , 2011

Björk stopped by Later With Jools Holland the other night to perform "Crystalline" off of her latest album, Biophilia . Really, all I can say is good for her for still being alive. Can you imagine how weird her day-to-day life must be? But that's cool - it's her thing, and it obviously works for her because she still makes music and she looks like she has a lot of fun while she does it. Hit the jump to watch... [...]
