Jordan Klassen decks his pretty tunes out with bountiful arrangements that don't grant them weight, but instead draw attention to where his songwriting could stand to be a little heavier. I've heard the argument that one should avoid deploying the word "evocative" without being able to state what's being evoked. This may rest on a too narrow understanding of the term, but it's a useful exercise in emphasizing the importance of specificity: there's a difference between affecting vague "evocative"-ness and evoking distinct feelings and memories of substance. Adorned with orchestral touches like soft bursts of horn, gently swooping strings, [...]

Wednesday night I saw Jordan Klassen , the person and the sprawling seven-piece band, take the stage at The Carleton and deliver a delightful set. The highlight was the Shins-ready "Go To Me", the single that dominates the Kindness EP. Money back guarantee: This jam will make your day off even more enjoyable. It was the winter of 2008 when I first heard Andy Shauf. I remember it because his album Darker Days was the first album I ever purchased on iTunes. That album carried me through a confusing season in Florida and since then I'll put it on infrequently when I remember it. There's something about Andy, and maybe it's that element of nostalgia I carry from my days down South but I love the sound of his voice, and I just think his songs are fantastic. I just noticed that he is on tour with [...]

Vancouver-based Jordan Klassen is the kind of artist that inspires whimsy. It's the accompanying music to slow motion running scenes through tall meadows. With elements of the Middle East and Freelance Whales, it's got a childlike quality to it. It's deeply calming, an effect best produced by strings and soft male falsetto. I haven't heard something with this kind of clarity in a while. Does that make sense? It sounds clean. It sounds good. Listen to it here. Jordan Klassen - Go To Me by killbeat music

by teepoo Fall in love with his ethreal voice. Vancouver's Jordan Klassen reminds me a bit of Dan Mangan . His melodies begin sweet and then there are thumping choruses that reach a sort of proclamation point. His Kindness EP says it's released February 7th, 2012 but it is up on Bandcamp . I love the track Go To Me . I wish I could whistle, so I could join in at the very end. Jordan Klassen- Go To Me

Jordan Klassen is from the Vancouver suburb / musical hotbed Abbotsford where they are obviously putting something in water. Their upcoming Kindness EP is released February 7th and features a remix from fellow A-town hottie, Teen Daze . The group play February 17th at The Mediaclub. If you're a fan of The Mountains & The Trees and Fisticuffs (and if not, then you should be), you're also going to be quiet taken with Jordan Klassen . His new record, Repentance is a way's away from being officially released, but he's already offered a sample of what you can expect from it. "Go To Me" throws whistles, ukes, glocks, and horns into the mix, making a little melodic masterpiece of the whole thing. Others have compared him to Sufjan Stevens, and while I can [...]

Here's a lovely tune I've just Shuffled on at Chipped Hip . It's from Canadian Jordan Klassen who's growing quite a following in the land of the maple leaf. There's a slew of influences including Sufjan Stephens and Beck, but aside from that I think this song stands on it's own as a gracefully dramatic little masterpiece. There's a bit of everything on Go To Me - whistles, trumpets, glocks and choirs that all come together to a refreshingly over loud anthemic climax. [...]

Vancouver songsmith Jordan Klassen will release Repentance on November 7. The first single is called "Go to Me," and it's a lovely tune that builds from a gentle ukulele-and-glockenspiel ballad to a cinematic pop rocker. Klassen's low range sounds distinctly like Sufjan Stevens , while his high range sounds damn-near identical to the Shins ' James Mercer ("Kissing the Lipless" anyone?). But despite the similarity to other there's still plenty of personality in this song.
Are you from Alberta? Do your friends call you "the musician" in the group? How about you come out and join in a great showcase for local talent next March! Jordan Klassen : Ask Me Not, Astronaut ( Teen Daze Remix) - MP3 Les Canadiens de Teen Daze , à qui l'on devait déjà un très bon remix du titre The Holograms de Fol Chen , sont allés rechercher le titre Ask Me Not, Astronaut de leur compatriote Jordan Klassen . Yesterday (Saturday, July 24, 2010) was the Saturday of the 2010 Calgary Folk Music Festival. The weekend was looking good - weather looked to be probably the nicest weekend of weather of the year so far...sunny, not a cloud in the sky with 27c temperatures. It was spectacular for weather (which can be half the battle at an outdoor festival) and it boded well for seeing numerous shows. The first show we saw was a nice early show with Jordan Klassen and Honeybear and it was a hometown affair. What better way to kick off the day then [...]
