Depois de oito anos a banda de Matt Sharp (ex-Weezer) The Rentals irá lançar material novo. "The Last Little Life EP" contém três canções inéditas: "Last Romantic Day" , "Little Bit of You in Everything" e "Life Without a Brain" (a primeira palavra de cada canção forma o nome do EP) e "Sweetness and Tenderness" que é uma canção do primeiro álbum do grupo "Return of the Rentals" só que em versão diferente. O novo álbum é prometido para final desse ano ou começo do ano que vem. Recentemente [...]
José González and his little acoustic guitar are back with a new record, In Our Nature . Early returns suggest it's more of the same from the Swedish-born, Argentinian bred González, namely tenderly melodic acoustic folk. The lead single is "Down the Line," a churning pop piece that, as Chris pointed out, recalls his best song to date, Veneer 's "Crosses." The real highlight of Nature , though, has to be when González takes on Massive Attack's "Teardrop," doing for that song what he did for "Heartbeats" in 2005, taking a great original [...]
Today was a big release date with Architecture in Helsinki, The New Pornographers, Josh Ritter, Earlimart, Minus the Bear, M.I.A., and Rilo Kiley all sharing space on the new release shelf of your favorite record store. But these days you can listen to an album weeks before its street date if you so desire and the cries of "what's next?" start before the ink has dried on the digipaks...the big music wheel keeps on turning and CD's keep on burning. So let's take a look at a few upcoming releases. Sambassadeur is putting out a new single on [...]
A handful of new music videos to be viewed: Troubadour Andrew Bird has just released his new video for "Imitosis," off of Armchair Apocrypha . As someone who definitely has an insect phobia, certain parts of the video (even though I know they're not real insects) creeped me out, but besides that, the video is good. No but really, fuck bugs. I hate them. Andrew Bird - Imitosis Add to My Profile | [...]
There has been a lot of new music released to the public over the last couple of weeks, and like the previous time I did post something similar to this - I decided to compile some of it here. Plus, today is my birthday! I think a few people were confused and thought it was a few days ago when Eric posted his birthday mix . Sorry about that! No birthday mix from me this time around, but this post will have to do. Rogue Wave [...]
If you thought the wait was eternal, well think again my friends! Everyone's favorite Argentinian-Swede is returning with his sophomore effort In Our Nature on September 25th. But if that is just too long (it is for me), here are two singles off the album that are sure to whet your appetite. Go and pre-order In Our Nature . Listen to " Killing for Love " ( 4.9/5 ) Listen to " Down the Line " ( 4.5/5)
I know he's one of the most hyped-up guys in the indie blogosphere, but I've enjoyed José González's smooth sounds since I discovered them. The fact that his family is Argentine doesn't hurt either, since I lived there for a couple of years and drool over anything connected to that wonderful place. It's enough to make me forgive that all his album covers are, well... boring. "Killing for Love" gets me excited for José's upcoming album, In Our Nature , which comes out late next month. It's got that trademark fingerpicking we've [...]
download Though Swedish troubadour Jose Gonzalez has gained a lot of fans on the strength of his own "Nick Drake with an accent" recordings, he's never quite matched the evangelical furor created by his modest cover of the Knife's massive "Heartbeats." Perhaps seeking a second lightning strike, Jose has been steadily covering a similarly mysterious electronic tinged number, Massive Attack's immortal "Teardrop." As with its predecessor, this Jose cover grounds its otherwordly source material in earnest emotion and ably transfers its dark textures with inspired acoustic arrangements. But taking a step back from an appreciation of undeniable competency, am I [...]

Hey, so I don't really know if everyone else has covered this yet, but--I really can't wait until the new José González album. It comes out this September, and oh man oh man...I'm pumped. His debut was absolutely super , and he's one of the few singer-songwriters that never tires me--his music consistently surprises me, and judging by some of his new tracks below, he won't disappoint this time around, either. Take a listen. MP3: José González Down The Line [...]

in our nature Jose Gonzalez 's much-blogged-about cover of " Teardrop " has long been a highlight of his live show, and his haunting acoustic version will appear on his upcoming LP In Our Nature (see art work above). In the meantime, the label has hooked us up with this high-quality live recording of Jose covering the Massive Attack classic: mp3: Jose Gonzalez Teardrop (live) In Our Nature [...]

José González has posted two new tracks from his forthcoming album In Our Nature on his Myspace page. The album is slated for a late September release! Waiting are you waiting for, "Down The Line" and "Killing For Love" are waiting for your ears to enjoy them! MP3 : José González - "Lovestain" MP3 : José González - "Heartbeats"

The Twang So far, this summer has been somewhat of a routine. Every day, I still have certain things to do at specific times, and it's gotten so monotonous that I've begun to randomly doze off in the middle of the oddest situations--during dinner, playing piano, even during Scrubs (Scrubs, people! Ahh!). But yeah, I leave for Deutschland in about 15 days now, so hopefully that'll break my spontaneous sleep schedule. This was ultimately supposed to lead to why I'm not posting like a machine, but I guess it got a little [...]

I was pretty stoked when I read on FasterLouder today that Jose Gonzalez would be returning to Sydney. I missed him last year when I was back in Canada and the time before that the tickets sold out before I bought any. So hopefully I'm not that lame this time. The tour is a promo tour in the lead up to the release of Jose's upcoming record In Our Nature which means his trip to Australia will be brief (sandwiched between gigs in Japan and New York) and at a teeny venue (The Factory). [...]
If you're a regular reader of the 'toof or have ever perused our archives you can pretty much assess that we sure do have a penchant for all things electro & dancey. It may lead one to beleive that that is all we listen to. But oh contraire mon frair . We listen to a lot of other stuff. Especially when forced. Like in wating rooms, grocery stores & evelevators. Also, when in the girlfriend's car I am often required to listen to the offerings of her ipod. Which are [...]
Ok, this time I'm not even going to apologize. I'm just going to start posting again. I'll earn your trust back. Actually, I will apologize for not responding to emails. That's fucked up on my part. I really do want to fill requests, but honestly, I get really, really bored writing about old White Stripes b-sides and whatnot. On to today's post... I've been thinking about covers a lot lately, probably stemming from reading that I Am Fuel post. I made a list in my head of recent indie covers that I've [...]

A mix for patio-parties underneath shimmering sunshine. Electro, house, pop, etc - the kids in skinny jeans and skin-tight t-shirts (cap-sleeves! yeooo!) are listening to this music while they eat their lunch. A few guys with cardigans and scarves on are sitting on a bench, smoking a cigarette, and listening to this music. Some guys playing basketball - behind a school / beside a play-park - have got their sneakers on and when they rest they absorb the sunshine and the music. They love the beats. They love their dancing feet. They love to shimmy, sway, sashay across the court. [...]

Even though it was a little out of the way and during one of my biggest weeks of the year (not too mention on the same night as Lost), seeing José Gonzalez was one of the best concert decisions, I've made this year. The atmosphere was completely different than any show I've ever been too. When I arrived the Courtyard Café was packed almost to it's brim, and everyone was seated. Before José took the stage, a local group called New Ruins played a short folky set which was pleasant but not extremely memorable. Then the man emerged from the [...]
Awwwww man! COACHELLA! Wasn't that amazing?!?! I mean, when that one band…..so awesome. I almost….you know….all over my pants!!!! MAN! Great times. Hot, crowded, but man….great. G-R-E-A-T. You're right. We didn't go. And if you can't tell, we'll about as bitter as squirrel nuts. Rage? Probably just o.k. I mean, they couldn't have been that…..you know, after all these years….(sob)……right? Here are some tracks from bands you may have seen and said "Man, I hope the Miz posts music from this band on Monday." We [...]

So it's RED NOSE DAY . Which means Comic Relief . Which means comedy, a lazy night in, appeals to the heart and donations of money. So what do I have? Uhm, music. Specifically, music about having a heart. Donate . Heartbeats The Knife - Heartbeats (Live OneMusic) José Gonzalez - Heartbeats (Live [...]
So, how did you do on Valentine's Day? Are you a Phyllis, whose boyfriend showered her with gifts every hour? Or are you a Pam, who received nothing but who had to sign for all of Phyllis' gifts? Or, God forbid, are you a Jan, who has a horribly annoying semi-boyrfriend, semi-stalker? Did I watch way too much of The Office Season Two DVDs while I was sick for the last three weeks? Yeah, probably. For those of you who made out like Phyllis, well, alt-gramma posted your songs yesterday. [...]
