Sitting through commercials is usually a pretty miserable experience. It feels like little sections of your life getting eaten up, 30 seconds at a time. Even the ones with good, home-made jingles are fun for a while but become increasingly annoying with each listen. Right when your favorite show reaches its most engaging point, you're left hanging and a flood of obnoxious advertisements rushes in, trying to tactfully convince you to spend money or to remember their convenient phone number so when you do finally decide that you need an injury lawyer or a gym membership, you'll know [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , The Hit List EMI/Warner There are plenty of good reasons to stay in on New Year's Eve: elevated drink prices; impossible expectations; a dearth of taxicabs when it's freezing out. So perhaps this year you'd be better off avoiding the drunks and cover charges altogether by cuddling up for some quality sexytime with your favourite date. If you still need a little convincing, here are 12 songs to help you [...]
There's a new episode of SVT Klubbland online today featuring José González performing with The Gothenburg String Theory : http://blogg.svt.se/klubbland/ 2011/12/09/43-jose-gonzalez-th e-gothenburg-string-theory/
Filed under: News Jim Dyson/Getty Images Jose Gonzalez wants your house. Or your villa. The Swedish singer-songwriter has decided he wants to record his next album in the solitary seclusion of a home or, better yet, the scenic isolation of perhaps a chateau. But his way of procuring said peaceful getaway is slightly unorthodox. Gonzalez has sent out an email blast and Facebook post soliciting a casa to record some tunes. [...]

Photo by Philip Cosores After spending the last couple of years exploring the possibilities of his band Junip, Jose Gonzalez is going back to the solo material that made him well-known. In an email sent to the Junip mailing list, Gonzalez revealed that he is already writing new material, which would be the follow-up to 20072s In Our Nature (has it been that long?). And, you can help the process. The purpose behind the email is that Gonzalez is looking for a "house/villa (he) can rent somewhere sunny during February-March." His wishlist [...]

After last year's surprisingly successful Turkey Day spent solo," I decided not to make the trek home again this year for the big family dinner (and by that I mean my extremely important delivery job kept me from doing so). But pity me not as I enjoyed the next best thing... grilled turkey and the company of good friends. Now first thing's first... if you've never tasted grilled turkey then you've never tasted PERFECTLY cooked bird. The juices... the flavor... the skins... Before I get too carried away (I've already begun disrobing at the thought of [...]

It's funny how we can develop certain associations with certain foods. They can remind us of specific or general points in our life. For example, I'm not sure I'd ever tried kabocha squash before I met Kasey, but it's an ingredient we use frequently during the Fall and Winter months. As a result, I've developed several associations with it including Fall (of course), Kasey, and cold nights that grow dark too soon. So today's recipe, Pistachio-Dusted Kabocha Squash , is a true Fall recipe for me and a classic Kasey dish. It's warm, simple and somewhat savory-sweet. I'm certain [...]

José González and company stopped by Kimmel's LA studio yesterday to play a couple songs.
The big news to come out of last night's late-night lineup is obviously this : St. Vincent's Annie Clark leaving a smoking hole in the middle of the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon stage with her beyond-good cover of the Pop Group's "She Is Beyond Good And Evil." But elsewhere on the dial, there was also good stuff to be heard. On Jimmy Kimmel Live , José González and his band Junip performed "In Every Direction," and it was good. Watch it below. Read More...

Matt Stevens' instrumental arsenal does not compare to a full-blown orchestra, which for can be a challenging task for one without vocal accompaniment. Percussion, bass, and guitars are all he needs, with glockenspiel and strings entering the fray occasionally. His two past full-lengths have resulted in a significant online following, who are bound to swoon [...]

There's no shortage of terrible covers out there, and the vast majority of them usually fall into one of two categories: Overly faithful and vastly inferior to the original and totally pointless, making you just want to hear the original Overly experimental, wrecking the original, and just as pointless as the first kind of bad cover A good cover finds makes the original great and casts it in a new light. It makes you notice that that disco song had a really great melody, that the original was a little [...]

I don't know about you, but I love a nice poetic story about the creation of an equally poetic band. Something that makes the music they present sound all the more home-grown and full of bold character. Oh Ruin, which is taken from the surname of the band's creator Eoin O'Ruainigh, are a pleasure to [...]
Ah, Outside Lands 2011 . Pending consistent weather (looks like it'll be solid San Francisco summer weather - gray and cold), it should be a blast. At least I know I'll be well-prepared. Meanwhile, all my friends have been asking two questions: 1) are you going? and 2) who are you most excited to see? Frankly, I hadn't looked closely at the lineup until late last night. I knew some of the major bands I wanted to see: The Shins, Arcade Fire, Ellie Goulding, and Deadmau5. But what about all the little bands that people [...]
