Leading this week's pack of new releases are, among many others, the Foo Fighters , with their much awaited " Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace ", the blues-rock sorceress PJ Harvey , with " White Chalk " and our favorite balladeer Devendra Banhart , with " Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon ." Also troubadour Jose Gonzalez releases his sophomore record, in his characteristic acoustic guitar and soul manner in the form of " In Our Nature ." Busy, busy week, we just love the fall. [...]

Spank Rock - BOOTAY ( ysi ) / ( zshare ) this is one of the best things going on right now: spank rock sampling 2 live crew which according to their myspace sounds like "fat girls in a hot tub ". bootay is spank rock & benny blanco's second single off their bangers & cash ep from which a new track each week will roll out here . i loved 2 live crew: [...]
Album Previews Swedish-born Jose Gonzalez (his parents are Argentinian) debuted in 2005 with his acclaimed album Veneer , which was a delicate mixture of classically-influenced acoustic guitar and his uniquely mellow vocals. His reinvention of the Knife's "Heartbeats" was flawless, and made its way onto thousands of indie playlists along with the amazing single "Crosses." Gonzalez' new album In Our Nature will be released September 25th, and its rumored to be a darker affair, dealing less with love and more with human nature. [...]

Man its a good thing that its real busy at my job right now, cause September is jacked full of great releases. Since I can`t afford to get every album, I have narrowed it down to "The Must Have`s". The Go Team! - Proof Of Youth Hot Hot Heat - Happiness LTD. [...]

The new Jose Gonzalez record has taken a giant leap into the "Favourite Albums" column.....it totally blows the socks off Veneer , and that`s a great record too! There are some areas on Veneer that were a little bit of a snooze fest, but this new album " In Our Nature " is a pure folk gem. I just wish it was a little longer (only 35 min)....be sure to grab it when it comes out at the end [...]

It's third and long as far as marketing goes for NBC's Friday Night Lights , and the folks at Universal/NBC have drawn up some new plays for season two. In an unprecedented move, they're offering a money back guarantee on the DVD release of FNL 's first season (out this Tuesday, August 28.) It seems like a risky move, but when you have as nearly a perfect first season as FNL did, it's not a bad bet that seeing is believing. "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose" is the oft-repeated [...]
José González and his little acoustic guitar are back with a new record, In Our Nature . Early returns suggest it's more of the same from the Swedish-born, Argentinian bred González, namely tenderly melodic acoustic folk. The lead single is "Down the Line," a churning pop piece that, as Chris pointed out, recalls his best song to date, Veneer 's "Crosses." The real highlight of Nature , though, has to be when González takes on Massive Attack's "Teardrop," doing for that song what he did for "Heartbeats" in 2005, taking a great original [...]

It was a cold and nasty night. Fog hid the buildings and mist surrounded me as I waited on line to enter the Speigelworld tent down at the Seaport . And I couldn't have cared less. I was once again about to see Jose Gonzalez . That was until I entered the tent. There are NO restrooms in this thing. No porto-johns/porto-sans/porto-p otties/ whatever you call them. Nothing. You have to walk all the way out back onto Pier 17 and [...]

Swedish singer-songwriter Jose Gonzalez has announced a fall/winter tour of Europe and North America. Apparently the North American dates are still being confirmed and added because there is a show confirmed for Nashville not yet listen on Jose's site , myspace , or booking profile , so make sure to keep an eye on those for more info as it is announced. Below is a high quality verson of Jose's Massive Attack cover courtesy of Gorilla V Bear , a wonderful cover of a wonderful Low song from a swedish radio session and the [...]

Besides chasing hogmen , Swedish folk singer Jose Gonzalez tours, and a lot. But you already knew that , but what you didn't know is he extended his dates, so after a all US tour spanning through out September and October, with English bass player James Blackshaw , he'll set for the hummed plains of the UK, after which he'll return to the US for another short string of gigs. Jose Gonzalez's newest album In Our Natur e will be out on September 25 via Mute . Tourdates: August [...]

Beirut - A Sunday Smile (live) When I wrote about the new Beirut album, The Flying Club Cup , two weeks ago, I was incredibly frustrated that there hadn't been any leaks yet. Now we've got a live version of this track, at least (Thanks for the mp3 goes to Hate Something Beautiful ). Beirut's Myspace Devendra Banhart - Seahorse [download or die] I've always thought Devendra Banhart was a little strange, and it's true, he is. [...]
There has been a lot of new music released to the public over the last couple of weeks, and like the previous time I did post something similar to this - I decided to compile some of it here. Plus, today is my birthday! I think a few people were confused and thought it was a few days ago when Eric posted his birthday mix . Sorry about that! No birthday mix from me this time around, but this post will have to do. Rogue Wave [...]
Music videos on TV are not lost! They're just growing. Painfully. Now that MTV essentially has abandoned the format, leave it to network TV to step up to the plate. ABC's marketing team hit ratings gold last year by self-producing videos (for Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars" , the Fray's "How To Save A Life", and Brandi Carlile's "The Story") to promote Grey's Anatomy , and for the fall season they plan more. 11 more.

I'd never listened to Jose Gonzalez until 3 weeks ago, when I first heard his song "Crosses." To say the least, I was pleasantly blown away and rendered incapable (until now, I hope I do him some measure of justice) of expressing the intangible dark quality to his music that so enchants me. The closest comparison I can think of is if the ghostly re-incarnation of Nick Drake were to suddenly appear, guitar in hand, and play so sadly and so sweetly as to convince me that he had never died at all. For apparent reasons I don't [...]

despite reaching epic guardian reader dinner party soundtrack proportions i still love jose gonzalez . his soft swedishness and understanding of the subtle formula of a truly pleasing cover version being two things which keep me going back to him like an old flame you're fond of and who's arms you can't shake. having surfaced earlier this year to re-release the beautiful if ubiquitous 'veneer', and later on zero7's most recent long-play outing he's back with a new album 'in our nature' in september. since it looks like the weather'll hold and doubtless getting your [...]

It's my birthday today. It's been a pretty crazy year. I switched jobs , sort of . I'm going back to school . And I'm about a month or so away from being done with a novel . I won another EFFL championship . I won a few poker games . I ran a few 5ks . I got drunk, got no sleep, and struggled to remember what happened. And that was just this weekend. And through it all, I've lasted through another [...]

I haven't been putting this off . At least, that is what I keep telling myself. I went to Sweden for 10 days, 3 of those days, my friend Mark was there and 6 of those days, Chris Milk was there. While we were there, Milk received only one call from Kanye West. That's it.! This post will mostly be about my trip, music and at least, two mentions of hot dog related things. Below is a picture, Chris took of me and my friend Anna at like 5am while [...]
