[In relation to my CMJ coverage, allow me to pre-emptively apologize for two things: 1) my camera is not fabulous with concert photos, 2) I won’t be hosting many mp3s direct. The reason for the latter is that my current connection is rather slow, so it takes me ages to download and upload things. Since most of the mp3s I’d be hosting for the bands I will discuss would come from MySpace anyhow, it saves time, energy and bandwidth if I show you where you can find the mp3s. This won’t become regular T-Sides.com practice - it’s just for this [...]

Rating: 7.5/10 Modern Music Review Style: Singer/Songwriter The singer-songwriter's fifth studio album is the first for his new record label, Lonely Astronaut. I took my coffee with coffee smile on my face and started to typing tap-tap-tap. Acustic songs are great to have a rest. So I put "Nuclear Daydream" and closed my eyes to travel the places which i haven't been before. Agreeable and pretty

It just never ends. Most towns have the good shows reserved for Thursday through Sunday. Not Austin! Everyday of the week has something worth while, so get out there and check 'em out! Jenny Lewis Monday is slow, as it should be, so check out Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins at Stubb's for a laid back show featuring great harmonies and jangly guitar pop. Things pick up a bit on Tuesday [...]

Nuclear Daydream Joseph Arthur Lonely Astronaut Records Buy at iTunes Music Store Download " Black Lexus " (MP3, 192kbps) The latest issue of Vanity Fair raves: "Joseph Arthur's Nuclear Daydream is a glorious work of art from this exceptional singer-songwriter." His songs have been covered by the likes of Michael Stipe and Chris Martin of Coldplay. He had a generation of fans "discover" him through The O.C. [...]

The photo above says it all. Joseph Arthur is a born Rock Star, whether he'll admit or not, it's true. For those of you who are already familiar with Joseph such as myself, this tour with a full band will change everything you've ever thought about Joseph live (in the best way possible). Joseph has assembled a great 4 piece backing band, which includes hometown boy Kraig Jarret Johnson (ex-Jayhawks/Run Westy Run) playing guitar, singing backup, and "everything else" according to Joseph. The set focused strongly on Joseph's new record, Nuclear Daydream , [...]

I picked up Joseph Arthur's 2002 release, Redemption's Son , thanks to a KCRW stream. Though I found the album a bit unbalanced and at times fairly thin (even though he puts a trillion layers on his vocals), I kept Arthur on the radar. Now I'm glad I did, as Nuclear Daydream has just been released. While he's always had that global appeal that comes with being "found" by Peter Gabriel and touring with Ben Harper and lightweights like Gomez, the country-rock/Americana mixed with Leanord Cohenesque brooding seems to be the most sincere on this [...]
After getting a message from Leah that only said, "The world wants traci to post mp3s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!," I thought that maybe it was time to post something despite her hyperbole. (I'm quoting her verbatim. There were really that many exclamation points. She's the Queen of Punctuation, after all.) I've been listening to Joseph Arthur's latest release, Nuclear Daydream , repetitively since it was released a few weeks ago. The whole thing is classic Arthur doing his singer-songwriter/I play all the instruments on my album thing, but stripped down a little. I especially can't get [...]
So to say I was plesantly suprised at Joseph Arhtur's show last night would be a vast understatement. I was wholly impressed and amazed. He is really, really great live. On top of just sounding fantastic, he is engaging, likable and more often than not, hilarious. What was probably the best evs was that they recorded the whole show and burned it to disc and made it available for purchase immediately after the show. Indie bands, take note, this is genius. $15 a pop. Your profit margin [...]

Going to lots of concerts can at many times be similar to playing the lottery, you never know what you might get but have the potential to hit it big. Ive been to many shows and got just what I expected, a solid performance from the band, or maybe an above average one and a great crowd. Of course there are also many shows on the flip side of that coin where the crowd is slim or annoying beyond belief, this usually affects the performer on stage. [...]
Joseph Arthur and Ben Kweller are both singer-songwriter type, folk-influenced artists that have had CD's come out in the last couple weeks. I've been enjoying both of their albums a lot and since time is limited I'm covering both of them in one fowl swoop. Out of the two, Joseph Arthur delivers a much darker and moody album. You'd expect that from an album called Nuclear Daydream, and Mr. Arthur does it well. The album is much more psychedelic based then I would have expected, but it really [...]

Even though I always found it a little difficult to get into his music before, I have to say that Joseph Arthur's Nuclear Daydream is an unexpected entry into the stream of cds getting regular play in our new apartment. Impressively, on most songs he plays every instrument, and that might go some way to explaining how cohesive the album feels, every song his hewn from the same tree. A tree made of soft rock, as it happens. But in a good way, so good that he ends up sharing a stage with Michael Stipe (see [...]

The Animals don't seem to garner the attention that some of the other early British Invasion bands of the sixties continue to reap. This is a powerful shame, as Eric Burdon and the band were tops at what they did, only matched by the Stones during their early R&B days. Inter-band fallout and infighting led to a relatively quick demise, but what they did put down on tape is an incredible listen if you're into the Brits take on American blues music. These young British musicians, obsessed with an American art form that was mostly [...]

I might be somewhat late to the "Joseph Arthur's new album is great" bandwagon, but what matters is that I eventually made it. I've been in love with the record for a couple days now, and apparently so has everyone in Lexington. We already sold out of it at work, ...

Fear my crappy photoshop skills I think compiling The Daily Graboid every week is probably my favorite thing to do on this blog. Every week I usually manage to always find a couple of albums from artists I had no previous knowledge of. If there's one thing I try to do here, it's that i'm always looking for something new and this is just one of the many ways I come in contact with a lot of new music outside of reading blogs, websites and such. Like I [...]
Joseph Arthur is back, and in a big way. This amazing singer/songwriter has written some gems in his time. From Cant Exist to the Michael Stipe/Chris Martin covered In the Sun. JA releases a brand spankin new batch of tunes to the masses tomorrow and its certainly of the same ilk his fans will be expecting. After biding his time on Peter Gabriel’s World Music Label â€" Real World for his first four albums, Joseph has taken a leap of faith and started his own label, named Lonely Astraunaut Records. [...]

Anyone that knows me and sees me on a regular basis knows I am all about the t-shirt. They are way more comfortable than all the other types of shirts out there, and really that's what I'm going for, comfort. Still I don't want to look tacky or out of date because my t-shirt sucks ass so that's why these t-shirts being sold at Yellow Bird Project are so awesome. They are designed by several bands and then the proceeds from each shirt sold goes to the charity of the band's choice. Here's pictures of the shirts... [...]
