The holiday season is always accompanied by the never-ending cavalcade of the same few Christmas songs that are played over and over again to the point of severe nausea. No matter where you go or what you do this time of year, you are subject to suffer the constant barrage of these hackneyed holiday tunes. [...]

A band I have been following for a few years now is Clare and the Reasons. Clare is the daughter of Geoff and Maria Muldaur. She married Olivier Manchon and together they make wonderful music. The record label they are on have a nice little holiday music EP out now for free. Listen below. Listen: Clare and the Reasons ∞ Blue Christmas (dreamy) Listen: Musee Mecanique ∞ White Christmas (creamy) Listen: Josh Mease ∞ I'll Be Home For Christmas (steamy)

Loud Loop Press presents La Scala this Wednesday, Nov 11th at the Empty Bottle ! Fronted by Balthazar de Ley (formerly of Hum) on guitar and vocals and backed by guitarist Kirk Mcmahon, bassist Ryan Jewell and drummer Joshua Lohr, La Scala's music embodies all of their influences. Sure, there's indie rock in there, but both Balthazar and Joshua come from or spent formidable years abroad. And that international flair is evident in their sound. It's equal parts cabaret and indie pop and probably unlike anything you've heard before. They've been kicking around this summer [...]

If there's a rough, jagged or discordant edge to any of Josh Mease 's exquisitely fashioned songs, we've yet to hear it (or, frankly, want to in this case). On his buoyant and bright debut album Wilderness , arriving July 21, the Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter resurrects the whimsical sound and spirit of early Paul McCartney (or for you obscurists, early Emmitt Rhodes) and masterfully knocks out ten tracks of pure pop magic. Described by NPR as "beautifully crafted with [...]

Via Audio has definitely proven themselves as worthy addition to the indie rock world. The group's attention to little sonic details raises their sound beyond the realm of mere tech-pop fan boys to something truly special... Via Audio forces the listener to readily acknowledge that great shoegaze pop can indeed come out of the marriage of man, machine and melody. With their latest record off SideCho Records, saysomethingsaysomethingsaysom ething , the band drifts throught dreamy soundscapes at new, anthem-like levels. Bassist David Lizmi swung by the Kata Rokkar to answer the [...]

I've been slacking in the submissions department this few months, there has been mucho good music sent to us for review but I couldn't keep up. Anyways today's the day for the goods to be split! Arrrr! Mofongo - Tumbao Ponce, Puerto Rico's Mofongo was said to be inspired by Salsa, Tom Zé, Fela Kuti, Varese and Dub , after hookup with Keith Fullerton Whitman aka Hrvatski at the New England Conservatory in Boston. I wanted to title this post 'Josh Mease: "Start Over" (no, not really, just continue... please!), but that's a little long and convoluted for a post title, so 'Josh Mease' it is. Josh Mease's sunny-go-lucky melodies can't be pinned down to one specific era, present or past, but when I listen I sometimes hear, or feel, an overwhelming golden glow from '70s AM radio. But it's of no consequence where the songs come from, or what they resemble, not when the music itself is so good. Mease has a soft relaxed way around a strong melody and that [...]
