The Hand Drawn Dracula takeover continues with guest blogger Josh Reichmann/Dopes , the multi-monikered musician whose last LP, After Live , was released on HDD earlier this year. Reichmann gives us a run-down of some of his favourite things from 2011. (Adam Levett) I Liked... The Show : "Beats In Space" on East [...]

Josh Reichmann is damn near impossible to define, and even harder to contain. He somersaults across genres like Sonic after a late night coke binge, but has always managed to maintain his fan base (not exactly easy when you consider he's meandered from yelpy post punk to 802s electronica). Sonically, After Live takes cues from Bowie/Eno Berlin-era sounds, but Josh isn't asking us to be heroes, even for one day. His surprisingly controlled Cohen-like croon and a sadness anchor the infectious synthy, sun-kissed melodies to the ground and a pseudo [...]
Josh Reichmann should be no stranger to observers of the Canadian music scene. Whether it's his spot in The Tangiers or his work with Sebastian Grainger in Bad Tits, he's always got something on the go. The latest is a new solo album, After Live. This is far from the dark, broody electronic album that I expect. The album opener and title track is about as far from that as you could get. The

The grand synth anthem gets pulled back to folksy harmonies and the occasional electro bleep.
Has it really only been four years since the dissolution of Death from Above 1979? Bassist Jesse Keeler has gone onto bigger things with MSTRKRFT, making these last four years seem a lot longer than they were. Ensuring the short-lived dance-punk outfit is even further from our memories, drummer/vocalist Sebastien Grainger has formed a new band, set to make its own mark next month. It's another duo, this time with Josh Reichmann (formerly of Canadian indie band Tangiers), and it's called Bad Tits . According to the band's bio, Reichmann and Grainger came together during a Toronto [...]

Sebastien Grainger has made a couple of waves since the split of DFA 1979 (which btw is on my top 5 list of loudest shows I've ever witnessed) is back with a vengeance. He's teamed up with Josh Reichmann (Tangiers) to make up Bad Tits . The band name conjures up a fetish more than music, but watch the video below. It look likes lost footage from "Beach Blanket Bingo" but let the music speak for itself. Instead of doing a DFA 1979 Part Deux, the two have teamed up to make an EP [...]

To celebrate its seventh birthday, Paper Bag Records has combined two of our favorite things in music: covers and free stuff. The Seven Year Itch, as Stereogum reports, is a new compilation of cover songs performed by twelve of label's artists, and can be obtained right this very second for free. Just click here . Launched in 2002, Paper Bag Records has emerged as one of he premier indie labels, and for good reason. In its first year, the label released the critically acclaimed You Forgot It In People [...]

... man I shouldn't have had so much to drink the other night... The Josh Reichmann Oracle Band , which, last night at least, was Josh Reichmann (presumably) and a back-up (interpretive) dancer wasn't exactly what I was expecting as an opener for the SPP. Reichmann sang over his electro-beats backing track and, I think in a different, clubbier, context it would've been pretty cool. In the theatre setting opening for the Sunparlour Players, something was off. That said, I certainly think that there's something there, and I'm making [...]

JOSH REICHMANN ORACLE BAND RESPONDS TO BAT FOR LASHES' "DANIEL," ALBUM "CRAZY POWER" OUT TODAY! Toronto artist Josh Reichmann Oracle Band (formerly of Frenchkiss post-punk band Tangiers) has decided to cover another newly-famed indie hit, this time, a haunting male response to Bat For Lashes' incredible song, "Daniel." Josh is making the cover available for mp3 download in celebration of the release of his debut LP, "Crazy Power," out today on Paper Bag Records. According to Josh: "I'm aiming with these covers (Deerhunter, Bat For Lashes and Bill Callahan upcoming) to showcase the songwriting that I [...]

Last November I picked up Josh Reichman 's (Oracle Band included) Life Is Legal EP and was pleasantly surprised with his Zappa/Wonder experimental funk and soul rock. He has a new album out now, Crazy Power , which I have a review in the works for, but this post is dedicated to a few covers he's released to help promote the new album. Both obviously sound different from the original, but stand up well on their own. Here's what he had to say about them: "I'm aiming with these covers (Deerhunter, Bat [...]

Former Tangiers member Josh Reichmann has continued to be quite prolific after the band's dissolution, initially through his solo project, Jewish Legend, and now with the Josh Reichmann Oracle Band which released its debut LP, Crazy Power , last week. The record follows the group's first EP , Life Is Legal , which introduced the world to Reichmann's new sound - a blend of psychedelia, soul, and funk wrapped in a layer of eccentricity that's fresh and fun. The ten tracks of the new record reveal a band that [...]
