DMB Caravan @ Randall's Island - September 18 Photos: Jeremy Smith After the threat from Hurricane Irene turned the DMB Caravan stop at Governor's Island into a one-day affair from its original three-day schedule, the Dave Matthews-curated event returned to New York City last weekend for a full three days that seemingly went off without a hitch. The weather was beautiful and the crowds increased as each day went by. [All photos by Jeremy Smith ] [...]

This is Josh Ritter live at The Rivoli, Toronto, Ontario, Canada back on January 29th, 2005. This is a solo set recorded to a high standard and a must for any fans of his music and a great acoustic introduction for others. Josh Ritter was born in Moscow, Idaho in 1976. As a teenager, after hearing Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan's "Girl from the North Country" on his parents' copy of Nashville Skyline, he attempted to write songs on a lute that his father had built, before abandoning the lute and buying his first [...]

. Mother Falcon - "Fireflies" [mp3] Like an upbeat Quick Said The Bird, Mother Falcon are incredibly talented musicians who understand the importance of being part of a whole. Nothing escapes from the ether yet at the same time every note in this song is incredible. The vocal round-about does me in more than any [...]

My last.fm doesn't update very often. I don't know why. I've tried reinstalling it, changing the settings, restarting my computer, and restarting my iPod. It isn't the biggest deal in the world, but every couple months when it does update, I enjoy tracking what I've been listening to. This possibly seems like a no-brainer to some people, but I find that what charts isn't necessarily the way I remember it. For example, I would say that U2 is my favorite band right now, but they are all the way down at number ten on my [...]
Mountains of midweek show options: ► Big day for L.A. legends the Go-Go's : This afternoon they'll be inducted into the Greek Theatre's Rock Walk, and then they will celebrate Belinda Carlisle's birthday. Despite releasing his latest album So Runs The World Away well over a year ago, Josh Ritter and the Royal City Band are apparently still doing late night shows promoting the album. Case in point - last night's stop at the Jimmy Kimmel show for a blistering take on Rattling Locks, featuring a while lot of drum sticks. The newly bearded Josh is charismatic as always, and the band delivers a great take on a really good song. Check out the video below:

The San Diego band gives us the first look at its latest video // Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

Chautauqua Auditorium | Boulder, Colorado | 20 July 2011 | Full Set As it goes every couple of months, I am set to see Josh Ritter again this weekend, so it's about time I posted the pictures from the last show. This show was a bit of a different set up than I'm used to- Chautauqua is a lovely venue, but it's very seated and very formal (for the type of places I frequent). Despite it being both seated and one level, we were sequestered to the sound board because [...]
Last night, folk-rock maestro Josh Ritter stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to play a scorching rendition of "Rattling Locks", the fifth track off last year's So Runs the World Away . The percussion-heavy and bluesy number is a thunderous piece of work, especially when Ritter is accompanied by the equally animated Royal City Band. In case you missed it, the video is above. Over the end credits of Kimmel , Ritter and company also played the energetic fan-favorite "Kathleen", which you can check out below. Ritter can be [...]

Somewhere in between Matt Ward, Josh Ritter and an old 202s era ragtime tune lies this British singer/songwriter who recently "laid down his guitar" and offered all his recorded songs for free download from his website. This gem is one of them.

Longtime XPN favorite Josh Ritter has added author to his already impressive resume. It was perhaps only a natural progression for the singer-songwriter and guitarist, who is known for his extraordinary lyricism. Today marked the release of his debut novel, Bright's Passage , a story about a young man returning home to West Virginia after World War I. Ritter will give a reading from the novel tonight at the Free Library of Philadelphia at 7:30pm. The evening will also include a Q&A session with World Cafe host David Dye, as well as a book signing.
