One more of these... Josh Rouse was also a recent guests on Acoustic Café . Acoustic Café is an independent radio program, started in 1995, hosted by Rob Reinhart . Now heard on about 80 stations, plus worldwide on Voice Of America, Acoustic Café remains one of radio's few independent productions, not affiliated with a university or corporate broadcaster. You can stream the entire at mlive.com/cafe . Here are the songs... [...]
I don't know if the ongoing slump in record/CD sales is being mirrored similarly in the circulation figures of music papers and magazines. Nowadays I'll only buy something if there's the promise of a decent-length article on someone I particularly admire. Failing that, I'll grab a hold of a magazine or two to take away on holiday just in case there turns out to be a hellishly long flight delay

While Mr. Sean Ryan has gladly accepted the honor of presenting this year's Rock Sellout Christmas Mix, there's no point in waiting until then to start sharing the holiday cheer. Black Friday has come and gone...that usually means Christmas is on its way, does it not? I'm usually one who likes to save the best for last. This year, I'm doing things differently. I started piecing together a Christmas mix for my coworkers this evening and Josh Rouse's "Christmas With Jesus" hit home the hardest. The song can be found on his album Under Cold Blue [...]

Happiness is indeed a warm EP, so says reader Russell in his entry (one of 90) on my Ryan Adams contest to win the new EP Follow The Lights . I've randomly drawn 2 winners (I couldn't possibly pick based on the "best" answer for this one) and contacted lucky readers Matt C. and Jon from Dance Hall Hips . Congrats guys, and I absolutely loved reading all the entries. Wanna hear snippets of the two "new" songs on the Ryan Adams EP? [...]
I've been a Josh Rouse fan for a long time. Unfortunately, I've only had the opportunity to see him once, right around the time that "1972" came out. If you look back on Josh Rouse's career, I think "1972" is a pretty definitive turning point in the type of music that he has released. His early music told stories about unhappy families and people in the Midwest. These days, he can write songs about a guy named "James" who can't stop hanging out at the bars, or a "Hollywood Bass Player." His newer songs are [...]
I covered a good chunk of what's going on this week on my show this past weekend, but a few things have been added to the concert calendar and I thought I'd once again give you a rundown of my day-by-day recommendations. With a few tunes to sample, of course. In my opinion local bands are the hottest in town this week, and if you can only hit one or two of these shows, I would definitely check out the WRVU Benefit with Turncoats and Bad Friend at [...]

I'm not really dissing this song, I'm just feeling cynical. As a matter of fact, I think it's a lovely song. It harkens back to a simpler time and construes a highly romanticized nostalgia for ideal relationships and happy endings. The thing is, I don't think that time ever actually existed. Sure, people moved at a slower pace and weren't so crazed, but the romantic ideal that's portrayed in this song-- that I don't think has ever existed. So what, you say. Well, it bothers [...]

(photo of the lovely and talented and amazingly unselfconscious Maya Hayuk ) Why the hell is it 89 degrees and humid at the end of SEPTEMBER? This sucks. Goddamn, Matt & Kim are so cute . Watch until the end when Kim goes into one of her squeaking fits. ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ MP3: My favorite Clash song. . . • Josh Rouse - Straight To Hell A [...]

Josh Rouse kicked off his current tour last night in Denver in support of his excellent new album Country Mouse, City House . I've been trying to catch Rouse live for over two years, but this was my first success - I very thoroughly enjoyed his unique fusion of soulful songwriter rock with elements of jazz, blues and funk, along with his velvety smooth voice. It was excellent and I highly recommend catching him when you can. The Bluebird was very full for a Tuesday night, with lots [...]
I had reasonably high expectations for today's in-store performance by Josh Rouse at Grimey's , I'm an avid fan of the singer/songwriter's work, and cherish a lot of his work (Namely Nashville ). For some reason I hadn't picked up Rouse's latest record Country Mouse, City House . I knew it was out, I knew I wanted to get it, but I just never did. This would prove to be a large mistake as the afternoon unfolded. It was a great day for music: cool, breezy, and [...]

Here's the deal: Tomorrow, (today technically) Saturday, September the fifteenth has just become booked for you. The forecast for tomorrow is the most beautiful of the year: high of 74, low of 49 and at 4pm you can find me at Grimey's seeing Josh Rouse for free. So take a drive to Grimey's with the windows down, and take this opportunity to enjoy the weather before it gets hot again. Come say hi if you see me. [mp3] Josh Rouse - Pilgrim
The other day I was checking around this new space I call my blog and I was clicking through all the links, making sure they were pointed at the correct sites, and so on. Well I stumbled down to where the ad banners are displayed and I did something that I honestly rarely, if ever, do. I clicked on one because it actually caught my attention. It was actually an ad for a free music mix presented over at the website for The Vancouver Sun. And of course, like a good little blogger, I snapped it [...]
New Wax What do you do with an artist like Josh Rouse? Earlier albums such as Home and Nashville contain alt. country gems such as "100M Backstroke" sprinkled with a few upbeat and downright rocking numbers such as "Directions," "Streetlights," and "Winter in the Hamptons"—though even the most rock-oriented tracks maintain Rouse's characteristic twang, incorporating rich strings and steel guitar arrangements. Part of me is curious about what might happen if Rouse decided to experiment more in the rock direction, but his [...]
It's day three of my keep-you-company-while-I'm-gon e installments. These songs fall into the melancholy category, coz I know you're missing me big time by now. (Um, you are, aren't you?) Josh Rouse -- "My Love Has Gone" mp3 off Nashville ( buy ) I really do love this album. Munck/Johnson -- "Last Wish" mp3 off Count Your Blessings ( [...]

Saturday's Theme Mix is ready, and what a mix! There are so many songs about Saturdays and Sundays, so for the next two days, I will not make personal notes on every song. I'll make my notes on most of them, probably, and add a link to the band's website. Commenting all these songs will take too much of my time. This mix includes a lot of my favourites, and I hope you will enjoy it too. Comment if you like it, hate it or miss something here. The songs will be online [...]

Josh Rouse 's latest, Country Mouse, City House , has been out for a few weeks now, and I apologize for not mentioning it earlier. I've actually had my copy I think since the end of June, and I've certainly been listening to it, I just haven't gotten around to telling you how much I've been enjoying it. I have been enjoying it though, and you can rest assured that if I wasn't turning the show over to guest DJs every week, you'd be hearing an awful lot of the album [...]
