Well another year has passed and I figured this would be the year I wouldn't post my Christmas mix but a few folks I like and others I hadn't heard of have released some Christmas music so here we are again. As I say every year: these may be holiday songs but many of them are solid songs period - many deal with themes if lost hope, loneliness and the rigors of the holiday season. In fact several of these songs remain some of my favorites - you be the judge - check them out and see which [...]
Josh T Pearson - Drive Her Out (Mute Session) from Mute on Vimeo . The above is last years #1 artist/album for Slowcoustic, Mr. Joshua Theodore Pearson III (not his real name) with the lovely & not so passive aggressive ' Drive Her Out ' from his incredible opus Last Of The Country Gentlemen . Aaaaaanyway... Best of lists will be happening soon with December right around the corner! No blogger can resist this phenomena unless they have already ascended from mere mortal blogger to true music snob (many have [...]

By Sam Cleeve July 13-15, 2012 With a perfect balance between alternative entertainment, all fresh and full of inventive energy, and more mainstream concerns determined to keep the main stage camping chair crowd entertained, at this year's Latitude there was–forgive the cliché–a little something for everyone. The site was as beautiful as ever–misty lakes and rabbit-hole forests and fluorescent-dyed sheep–and the crowd as age-diverse and (as many a comic over at the comedy tent gleefully pointed out) as middle-class as they come. So without further dithering, here's the first part [...]

http://www.latitudefestival.co .uk/ Latitude Festival is in (slightly less than) two weeks now, I really cannot wait. I've not been to Latitude before but in a year without Glastonbury (though after last years mud-baths, ever increasing capacity / mainstream line-ups and old age catching up with me it could be my last) I've been looking for a few smaller, less 'mainstream' festivals to get my festival fix. Latitude is the first traditional festival where I'll be taking my tent, rather than basking in hotel based glory as at The Great Escape. I've got [...]

By Russell Warfield March 3, 2012 Did you see those pictures of the queues for Field Day? Metal detectors? Sniffer dogs? Sister event The Apple Cart Festival is far more my cup of tea, and doesn't seem to fall prey to any of the widespread complaints of overcrowding and dickheadery levelled at its Saturday counterpart. Whether the hoards were warned off by the predictably weary temperatures and lashing showers, or by the event's slightly diluted, anti-Shoreditch, family centric programme, it created an ease of entry and roaming seemingly not enjoyed by its [...]

A few weeks ago The Apple Cart Festival announced their initial line-up, which featured the likes of Billy Bragg, Jeffrey Lewis & The Junkyard, Noah And The Whale and a bunch of comedians and artists. They've now announced that the following musicians/bands/artists/comedi ans/magicians/performers will join the previously announced acts at Victoria Park on June 3rd: Adam Ant, Josh T. Pearson, Gilles Peterson, Inner City, Beth Jeans Houghton, Scritti Politti, several members of The Magic Circle - compered by Richard Pinner IBM (International Brotherhood of Magicians), Miles Jupp, Bobby Mair, Art Cart Boot Fair [...]

Adam Ant , Josh T. Pearson , Inner City , Beth Jeans Houghton , Gilles Peterson and Scritti Politti are just some of the names added to The Apple Cart Festival bill this morning. As previously announced , The Line Of Best Fit will be hosting the second stage at this year's event; bringing some of our much loved acts to a multi-thousand capacity arena - however, we're keeping our lips firmly sealed about the line-up - for now.... For the uninitiated, The Apple Cart [...]

Video: Vimeo - YouTube Photos: Flickr Audio: zip download: right-click, save as This session was recorded in Glasgow before Josh's performance at Oran Mor on 22nd November last year. The first attempt to record a session with him was at Stereo, but recording in a venue really didn't work out, so this time we decided to take up the kind offer of Phil from PAWS to record it in his bedroom instead. Again [...]
This weekend's podcast will be the Josh T. Pearson Toad Session, so I thought I might offer up a wee teaser just um... well, I'm not really sure actually, it just seems to be the done thing these days. This session was actually filmed through in Glasgow before Josh's show at Oran Mor in November. To avoid the pitfalls of trying to film the session in a venue where people are trying to do other jobs, we decided this time to record in Phil from PAWS ' flat, which happened to be just down the road. [...]

TOP 5 1. THE DECEMBERISTS - The King Is Dead + Long Live The King 2. EMA - Past Life Martyred Saints 3. JOSH T. PEARSON - Last Of [...]

Started thinking about this a few weeks ago and I realised it’s been a really strong year for new releases – I could’ve named twenty albums very easily. On top of that I’ve recently picked up on a couple of records from this year in the last couple of weeks – the Wilco and Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat - ones both of which I’m pretty sure would’ve been on this list if I knew them a little better... So … Seven Great Records of 2011 Bad As Me – Tom Waits [...]

A list of our favorite albums of 2011. Below you'll find the records that meant the most to me this year. A smaller list than in previous years which is a result of these records remaining in heavy rotation all year combined with an equal amount of time spent listening to records not released this year. [Note: this list does not include releases from the artists I work with directly] Bon Iver | Bon Iver ( buy ) MP3: Bon Iver - "Holocene" [...]

01.Easter - Somethin' American This might be the first time such an unknown song by such an unknown band has ever been given top spot on any of my end of year lists, but they were absolutely brilliant live when they played up here in September, and this song is just fantastic, as are the other two songs on their Soundcloud page. It's less lo-fi than a lot of the DIY stuff I've listened to this year, and the squalling solos which tease Easter's songs to an end evoke loads of old school US indie music. This gives quite [...]

11.David Thomas Broughton - Ain't Got No Sole The first song we heard from DTB's fantastic album, and perhaps the poppiest of the lot. Catchy, unusual and immensely hummable. 12.Kurt Vile - Baby's Arms Another album from which it is tricky to extricate just one song as a highlight, but for some reason I'm giving this the nod above Jesus Fever or Puppet to the Man . I think it's the most late night and glass of red winey song on the album, but it's close. 13.The [...]

With Christmas out of the way, and the year almost over, it’s time I finally get around to compiling my Top 20 albums of the year of 2011 (in fact, there are 21 entries). Each album is represented on the mix with a song, and each entry has a link to the artist’s homepage or other outlet where the album can be ordered from. Because this list is intended not only to show off my impeccable taste, but also to showcase artists, all data files in the mix have been downscaled to 128kbps. This is not really a chart, but [...]
Don't you love Christmas music? I'm Jewish so mostly it makes me feel like I'm in a mall. But don't you love malls? I've been trying to get my daughter to listen to The Nutcracker , and that's been pretty easy because she's only three and doesn't have a choice. But if Tchaikovsky's not your speed there are always new XMas jams from indie rockers to keep you in the holiday spirit. Once again we've collected this year's additions to the canon since it should only be a Sufjan Christmas so many years in a row. (And once again [...]
