It's no secret that FOX has a habit of canceling its best shows (to this day I still want to have a serious talking to with whoever decided Arrested Development had run its course). And after a recent Lie to Me obsession this summer, I was devastated to find there was no Season 4 to continue my marathon. So consider this playlist Part 1 of a final lament to yet another show that ended before its time. Lie to Me is a drama centered around Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth - [...]
The musical superduo Ashtar Command, composed of Chris Holmes (Sir Paul McCartney's go to DJ) and Brian Liesegang (Founding member of Filter) first showed up on our radar with a track on the PS3 game 'Red Dead Redemption'. Their debut album 'American Sunshine' was an unexpected and delightful revelation. Chief Cougar Microbes collaborator Kyle hailed it [...]

Flashback, 1987: I'm a freshman in high school, just finding my way into the dark underbelly of underground music thanks to the burgeoning alternative college radio scene in and around the Boston area and a younger brother whose musical tastes blossomed early. I hadn't really noticed UK band The Smiths during middle school, but when Girlfriend in a Coma hit the airwaves, it touched me deeply, and I purchased the album from which it came, hardly aware that it would be their last, that the band was already disintegrating from the stress between an exhausted and [...]
Ashtar Command's debut album 'American Sunshine' was finally unleashed this fall marking the culmination of almost ten years of songwriting. One of my favourite DJ's, and all round music guru, Chris Holmes joins forces with Brian Liesegang of Filter/Nine Inch Nails fame to record what is far from your typical 2011 release introducing obscure sci-fi [...]
This is a bit dated compared to our usual music posts we share but just watched "Dear John' with its accompanying Dear John: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and really loved the story and the musical score which included 311, Joshua Radin, Fink, The Swell Season, and more...
He's best friends with Scrubs' Zach Braff, he's been compared to American songwriting legend Paul Simon on more than one occasion, his songs have been on every TV show going and he has a new album out at the moment. Who are we talking about? Joshua Radin , of course. Radin's career has been an interesting one; it's been half a decade since he released his debut 'We Were Here' and regrettably, his stateside success hasn't really translated in the UK. When asked how he hoped his new offering will [...]
The Rock And The Tide is the title of Joshua Radin's most recent album and after thoroughly enjoying the record earlier this year we were all really excited to have him join us for a session. It was the exclusive Martini Library in Central London where we met with Mr Radin and his good friend Brandon who performed two acoustic tracks, one of which was Streetlight and the other was a track exclusive to the UK album version called I Missed You. You can buy the album via iTunes here and all tour [...]

The elderchild and her smaller sister are growing up fast, as kids are wont to do. They don't need kidfolk so much anymore - are starting to make their own choices about music and listenability, and tend to prefer playfulness and performability to nuance or lyrical narrative, a trend which I suppose will linger until they hit their teens and begin to look for ways to identify themselves as "other". They play unattended, and wander the folk festival grounds on their own; they do musicals, as their parents do, and sing the songs around the house for [...]
Joshua Radin , being the benevolent bloke he is, is offering up an entirely free acoustic EP. Included on here are 'I Missed You', 'Streetlight', 'The Ones with the Light', 'We Are Only Getting Better' and 'You Got What I Need'. Grab the EP for the mp3 player of your choice below. Also below is a lyric video with a difference, for 'I Missed You'. Click here to view the embedded video.

Laura Jansen, Crystal Ballroom Portland, Orewgon 2011 We recently caught on to a new artist, Laura Jansen , who has been supporting Joshua Radin on his current tour and who previously was playing in Joshua's band. We saw Laura open for Joshua Radin at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. It was as expected a very intimate and personal experience. We were fortunate to have gotten there early as the venue was packed to capacity and there was practically no way out once Laura began her set. As you can see from the photos [...]

Usually, the "City" in Sarcasm And The City refers to the towns in and around Orange and LA Counties. You know, the beach cities. Without the snow and tornadoes. Who knew that life - with good music - existed beyond southern California? My good friend BAMS recently got hitched and moved to Kansas, and sent this review of a Joshua Radin show she recently attended. I'm beyond jealous, as Laura Jansen opened for him. The two of us saw her a few years ago and [...]

Joshua Radin is in the middle of a nationwide US tour in support of his album The Rock and The Tide . This weekend, he brought the Rock and The Tide Tour to the House of Blues in Boston. Our photographer Jennifer Murtha was there to catch Joshua and his band in action (and to thwart away his adoring fans!). Check out her photos inside.
Getting ready to head out to the Pieta Brown show in a while, I am working on getting the Maria Isa show and the Dessa show mastered and should have them up here sometime this week. The Dessa show was amazing, she had a lot of new material, so fans of her will definitely enjoy that show. Also, it was being taped by TPT, and will air March 27th at 10pm . I'm trying to figure out a way to record that, and will hopefully be able to share that here. [...]
The new video for Joshua Radin 's "Streetlight," the first single from The Rock and the Tide , has quite an amazing concept. The singer-songwriter is a jigsaw puzzled being pieced together in the park. The stop-motion elements work quite well, and the whole feel is just so cute. Check it out above and Radin's tour dates below. Joshua Radin tour dates: November 22 - First Avenue - Minneapolis, MN November 23 - Barrymore Theatre Madison, WI November 24 - Vic Theatre - Chicago, IL [...]

Chop Shop/Atlantic recording artist Anya Marina has announced touring plans to support the release of her digital EP, titled 'Spirit School' . After a co-headlining show with Steve Poltz on December 5th at Mississippi Studios in Portland, OR, Marina will be kicking off 2011 with a run of dates supporting Joshua Radin , beginning on January 28th at Mr. Small's Theater in Pittsburgh, PA (see itinerary below). Not a very good week for listening to new music considering the hospital stay in the middle of it, but I got some new stuff in. Hopefully next week will be better in regards to that. Awesome day today for the Vikings by the way, one of the most exciting games of the year in my opinion, which offset the crushing the Wolves took after that. Spread Love-Nneka Old Devil Moon-Jamie Cullum Mojo So Dope-Kid Cudi [...]

While Ireland and the UK have welcomed the Script into their hearts, it took some doing for them to get noticed stateside: 'Breakeven' was released as a single to their self-titled debut here last September. They're the kind of band that I usually wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole, but last year a friend of mine who had similar musical interests suggested I have a listen. Also, thanks to effective placement on VH1 here in America (read: I would see their videos during brekky telly watching before work), I got to know [...]
Albums I Am Not a Human Being - Lil Wayne Somehow despite being in jail the best known member of the Young Money, Cash Money Billionaires crew manages to release an album. All prerecorded before his incarceration Lil' Waynes' newest album picks up where his last album Rebirth left off. Unfortunately, that means that most tracks are worth a listen, but overall aren't up to the supreme quality of his best album, The Carter III . The Rock and the Tide - Joshua Radin [...]
Photography by Amelia [well, actually by my friend Laura, 'cause that's me in the picture, but it was on my phone so I'm taking credit] This is a mixtape about a triangle. A Troublesome Trio, Three Amigos. Side one is from a Brokenhearted Boy's perspective, about the girl who broke his heart. Side two is from a Gloomy Girl's perspective, who happens to love Brokenhearted Boy. The missing side of the triangle is the Other Girl, the friend to both who started causing all the trouble. So since Brokenhearted Boy is sad about the Other Girl and Gloomy [...]
