Last November I was invited down to The Gibson Lounge to the Hotel Cafe Tour featuring Rachael Yamagata, Josua Radin , Cary Borthers, Joe Purdy , Jim Bianco , Brian Wright and a few more that I can't recall right now. I dragged a couple of my friends downtown and we had a front row seat for the show. Unfortunately, all of my pictures came out black - until I just ran them through a color corrector - it over corrected but at least you can see the photos now.. We were lucky [...]
Can anyone argue that getting told 'I love you' feels better than anything in the world? Maybe coming in a close second would be a warm embrace, but words, specifically those words, are magical. And songs with those words are even more magical. So here are some of L.A.'s best heartbreakers for those with or without a hand to hold... We love you. Lavender Diamond - "You Broke My Heart" (MP3)

Sorry, I have been a bit busy, I apologize for the delay. I decided to edit the title a bit here because the "Leftover" was causing some confusion... These song picks are some of my favorite songs of the year from bands who were not present on either my Album or EP lists, the following list is my top 20 song picks: Enjoy and Happy Holidays! I Don't Mind Trespassers William , Having [ Get it ] The Dead Tree [...]

Today marks one year (!) since I AM FUEL, YOU ARE FRIENDS took its first tentative steps with an initial post, and I've been contentedly rolling along ever since, gathering steam as I go. I know that downloading music (and absorbing all that I have to say here) can sometimes be like drinking from a firehose, so I thought to compile you a 20-song mix of my absolutely favorite tracks that I have featured in the first year of this blog. Some of these tunes I posted up way at the beginning when I [...]
Wow, the week got away from me for a sec. Here is a mish-mash of foreign (in more than one sense of the word) or folky covers that have made me smile for whatever reason this week. Sorry I don't have more time (or inclination, more accurately) to write more right now. (I used the word more three times in that sentence. That's how guilty I feel for neglecting you all!) Mummy the Peepshow "Fairytale in the Supermarket" (Raincoats cover) [...]

Mine? Wow. Tricky question. Frankly, I'd rather rent this when it comes out on dvd. Possibly. Even having such sweety pies as Rachel Bilson and Lucinda Barrett's not enough to drag me into the theater. The trailer just doesn't grab my interest, that is. I do enjoy the podcast, though. On the other side, the soundtrack is, well, the best way to put it is 'Garden State 2'. A collection of mellow, obscure 'indie' songs handpicked by Mr. Zach himself. Actually, the tracklist's quite good, every song here is quite decent. Of course, the [...]
Yoga Goes to War Sailors and soldiers are seeking enlightenment in uniform. Are tow-truck drivers and Wall Street traders next? [LA Times] YOGA MAGAZINES seldom fail to offer a glossy dive into the sandalwood-scented world of downward-facing dog poses, toned bodies and organic tank tops. But the August edition of Fit Yoga magazine is an exception. Turn to Page 6 and you'll see a pair of mildly

Well August is slowly coming to an end. Things start to really pick up after Labor Day, but this week has some decent offerings. The week begins on Tuesday with locals Blonde Hair Blue Eyes at Full Moon Saloon in Fell's. The Ottobar has a solid week that includes Chicago's Smoking Popes on Wednesday [...]

Photo by Brax Cutchin I had posted about Joshua Radin's new album here and with the upcoming release of The Last Kiss which will be in theatres August 26th (US) Joshua Radin will be getting a great deal of attention I suspect, considering he has two tracks on the films soundtrack along with Snow Patrol, Coldplay, Imogen Heap, Amy Mann, Remy Zero, and the Cary Brothers. But today I am not here

Somehow at the music conference in Boulder I found myself babbling to Joshua Radin's manager that if I had the letters "r-a-d" in my last name, I would pronounce it as "rad" because, well, it'd be rad to have that in your actual name . Joshua Radin (who actually pronounces it "Ray-din") writes quiet, beautiful music that is both lovely and wrenching, and I have found myself listening to it on repeat lately. A recent addition to the world of musicianship, Radin decided to start songwriting at age 29 [...]
Zack Braff has a new movie coming out, The Last Kiss , and I have no idea what it's about but the soundtrack is amazing!!! Rachel Bilson is in it so count Johnny in. Just like the Garden State soundtrack was money, so is this one and actually it sounds as if it was culled by our own Canowine. No doubt Johnny has all of these songs somewhere on his computer. Anywho, here's a couple of tracks to taste. Enjoy! Cue the music! Chocolate [...]
The best of the best. Without repeating an artist, my favorite songs I’ve listened to in 2006, Part V. [Part I , II , III , IV and V previously]. 1. Lo-Fi Fnk â€" Adore (mp3) This fun dance track from this Swedish group made me an instant fan. It was an intrinsically appealing quality I can’t put my finger on. The first few lines are my favorite, “Laying on the floor listening to [...]
