Mi Abuela es Jazzista is our favorite fanzine; from its irrational editorial choices, to its jaw-dropping design and edgy content, this is a total knockout. This publication is leaded by Luis Angel Martinez, the mind behind Piyama Party, so you can already perceive the kind of cool aesthetics and humorous imagery you'll find here. We love it so much we have actually printed the previous volumes. For its third edition, the fanzine fully submerged into a zoo… "nos encantan los animales, tambien las bandas de rock." Along with incredible art, this also includes a story, a poem, and five interviews [...]

The Poni Republic released a very special EP with remixes for Jóvenes y Sexys' first and still only release Bruno EP . Club Fonograma favorites Maria y Jose and Pepepe took care of the remixes for "El Reloj" and "Gold Day" respectively, the Venezuelan duo reinvented "Suerte" in a very dark, smoky, and possibly defining sound for their future full length album. Now we can't lie to you, we've had 75% of this release on our iPods for a long time (years maybe), but it's nonetheless, a nice recollection of what was our second favorite EP of the 00-10 [...]

When Jovenes y Sexys' Cheky tweeted about finishing new songs, we all thought they were destined for that highly anticipated LP from the band. Turns out, he's been cooking a solo project not even her fellow Joven&Sexy Loocila knew about. I guess we should've seen it coming when that Natalia Lafourcade remix came with a surprise, Cheky doing vocals. When we announced via Twitter that we were accepting tracks for our ninth compilation, we received an email by Algodón Egipcio that read, "This is Cheky, I'm undercover." It only took one spin through "El Sonido Ensordecedor" to notice [...]

Hey everybody, we're coming very close to the end of our netlabel & Blogspot "era". That sounds pretty wicked, right? Well, it is. But don't mind that, for we have an entirely better and rather more interesting surprise for you guys. Oh, don't worry. We will tell you all about our "good bye" within the third surprise we have planned for you, but before that (again), let's go back to the true meaning of this post. Our Venezuelan "panitas", Jóvenes y Sexys , are back. Were they ever gone? Not really, well, in a way, [...]

It's hard not to fall in love with Jóvenes y Sexys, we certainly are. Every song they put out reinforces what we've been saying; they're the new great South American band and will breakthrough as high and loud as Hello Seahorse! Did with Bestia. This time they're surprising us with a daring remix for one of HuHuHu's most celebrated tracks, "No Viniste", recently covered by Carla Morrison. The remix is one of the many revisions expected to pop up on consideration to appear on Natalia Lafourcade's special edition of her critically acclaimed album, expected to hit the shelves [...]
illustration by Robin Joseph - Big Tree - The Concurrence of All Things We are expanding and expanding and expanding... We received this in the mail last week and obviously I could not resist that title so I had a listen. Everyone knows any songs that mention the Universe, planets, astronauts, rockets, and words like "concurrence" are cool. Turns out it was less science and Space-related than I was expecting but - you know what? - that's not actually [...]

A lot has been said about the first edition of the MtyMx festival in Monterrey, Mexico. I think it has already been covered extensively in reviews by NY Times , Impose , Stereog um , etc. Yes, there was trouble with the organization and logistics. Yes, like one third of the bands in the line-up didn't show up. Yes, there were issues with the transportation. Yes, there were only a few hundred people in the audience (Monday afternoon was a little depressing, wit h 20 people [...]

Jóvenes y Sexys and Ulises Hadjis had one hell of a trip sometime ago in Mexico, where they had a nice line of gigs as they promoted their Bruno EP and Presente albums respectively. They made a bunch of friends, got beautiful photographs by Florencia Alvarado and went back to Venezuela with beautiful memories. During their stay, En Petit Comite invited them into one of their sessions, one of our favorites without a doubt. It's been a while since their session was streamed on the show they are sending us two tracks that you [...]

The Format's Sam Means and Nate Ruess still continuing to make music individually fun. - At Least I'm Not As Sad (As I Used to Be) Sam Means - Yeah Yeah Covers of songs we love that pay tribute to the original rather than extracting its guts with a polished spoon and eating them raw Little My - New Slang (The Shins cover) Bubbly Spanish songs so cute you want to stick a pen in your eye [...]

COYOTE NIGHTS COMPILACION #5, HAPPY-FI Happy-Fi, Mexico ***1/2 Rating: 74 By Jean-Stephane Beriot Happy-Fi is like the happiest home of Mexican pop, one of those labels that are truly run by its artists who for the most part, make bright harmless pop that is as warm and comfy as long sleeve sweaters. While their [...]

Pics & text by Juan Manuel Torreblanca What… or who is en petit comite? Well… it depends on the month, on the session, on the season etc. but (based on their own description, as found in their MySpace ) En petit comite is a project that's born from the need to explore and play with what it's creators and their guests and friends love the most: music. En petit comite is what happens when a band (or an artist) is submerged in the intimacy of a recording booth to document what inspiration brings in that [...]
Poni Republic es un netlabel creado por Eric Gamboa , A.K.A. E. Lebleu . [...]

There's an awesome talk with Jovenes y Sexys on Panamerika (recorded in Mexico) they talk about a lot of stuff including the whole indie bands writing in English discussion, they're response is priceless and right on spot, is like they bitch-slap the sweeping purists. There's some talk on their Tucanes de Tijuana cover for the Rudo y Cursi Soundtrack , which by the way is finally on my hands (thanks Nacional), but the greatest thing about this podcast is their chat on Venezuela's indie scene. .. if there is one and such. Some might think we're very centralized in [...]

NOS CASAMOS EN AFRICA, BI-LOG The Poni Republic, Venezuela *** Rating: 67 By Jean-Stephane Beriot The artwork of Nos Casamos en Africa doesn't quite fit our reviewing format, Polaroid on Polaroid? I guess why not. This is the fourth Venezuelan act to release an EP through The Poni Republic, following the revelations of Todosantos, Jovenes y Sexys and Nuuro. Bi-Log is very lo-fi, the [...]
If you have followed the blog for some time, you know how much we have buzzed about Jovenes y Sexys, the kind of hard-to-resist charm we get every other decade. They made the list in Reactor's best 105.7 songs of 2008 , are getting much love from artists like Julieta Venegas, Juan Manuel Torreblanca and Quiero Club and now bring us their first video for their single "El Reloj." Which you might want to download here .

Don't get tired of Best of the Year lists so soon (there's much to come), as promised, we asked our favorite artists of the year to tell us their favorites. A big bunch of artists didn't respond and so we don't like them anymore, just kidding, we know how busy people are. But very special thanks to those that did help us out. We asked for a Top 3 or a Top 5, limited to albums made in Iberoamerica. Notice the presence of Hello Seahorse!, a band I absolutely love and was part of my Top 10 of 2007, but I realize the [...]
