To be completely honest I am not a big fan of indie rock. I am not totally against the genre; however there are few indie bands I feel are worth my downloading time. I had not heard of the unsigned artist So What Robot before listening to 'A Girl Who Reads', and once the first indie-specific electric guitar chords were played I was a bit wary. I asked myself: 'should I continue and perhaps find another band to adore, or should I tune out and save my ears?' I'm glad I chose the former. Read more..
![[Introducing] – Letting Up Despite Great Faults](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3639277_lg.jpg)
Tweet If The Cure did electro-pop, they might end up sounding something like Letting Up Despite Great Faults . Maybe Robert Smith could get a haircut while he was at it, although I guess that would just be a nicety. Also, I heard that that's where he gets his power. He's like a really miserable, weedy version of Samson, with Fridays as his Delilah. Hailing from Los Angeles, five-piece LUDGF grew up listening to rock heavyweights like The Smiths , [...]
Deathly screams came from cars sitting in the line of traffic, kids in tight cut off jeans and cut off tee's to match would walk by with backpacks and imitation Ray Bans, and I watched as spot by spot the parking lot of the Monmouth Park Raceway began to fill and look like that game Unblock Me. It was a sight to see while walking up to get my press tickets. Personally, I have been to about four other Warped Tours back when they were held at Raceway Park and I think I've seen it all. But when [...]

It was good to be behind the decks again for CROSSWAVE a few weeks back. I digged up all the dark post punk stuff that I used to proper listen to for my DJ set, Electric Guitars, Bauhaus, Ski Patrol, Joy Division, (early 80s) Killing Joke, throw them in with the good shit from this blog like Ulterior , Andre Obin , Awkoder , PNAU, Zebra & Snake , White Car . The Deathray crew gave us Iggy Pop, Nitzer Ebb, dark techno by Dave Clarke. We had fit-inducing strobes and animated visuals on the [...]

Just a few years ago there was a spate of British rock bands that seemed to be the direct descendants of that rumbling brand of 70s/80s alternative rock music that was spearheaded by Echo & The Bunnymen , The Jesus & Mary Chain and Joy Division . This new batch of re-visits had a variety of successes, with bands such as Chapel Club and The Horrors signing to Loog Records , (an imprint of the major Universal label), but then there was a plethora of others who's success hasn't been [...]
Ceremony, Burning Hearts, and Memory Tapes are three different artists with very different sounds. Their influences certainly intersect though, allowing the material to sound like creative odes rather than blend replications of genres and movements that are now in the past. They encompass a wide range of styles - from glam-inspired post-punk to flamboyant dance-pop - and remain interesting in the process.
The Guardian has one hell of a story up now: For the first time, the members of New Order talk about what happened to make them break up after twenty years together. Apparently it comes down to a fight between Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook, and now that Hook is touring with a band that plays Joy Division songs, they're never going to get back together: 'The truth is," says Peter Hook, the bassist first in Joy Division and then New Order, "Bernard's a twat and he always has been." [...]

There is a new compilation of remastered classic Joy Division and New Order songs out (import in US) called " Total ". And while the members of New Order are out promoting it to the UK press, they are slagging each other off so much as if to signal an end to New Order, reports the Guardian UK in a sad, but often amusing interview titled "Joyless divisions". About Peter Hook and his formation of a band that plays Joy Division classics: "He formed a band [...]
Marking the Joy Division singer's birthday with covers of 'She's Lost Control,' 'Shadowplay,' and more.

Filed under: News PA For a while it looked like New Order had been drawn to a close, but now it seems it's definitely all over bar the shouting. The Manchester legends, formed from the ashes of Joy Division after the loss of singer Ian Curtis , were interviewed separately, with their differences now appearing irreconcilable. Drummer Stephen Morris told the Guardian , "There's no future for [...]
Peter Hook is back to play some classic hits from his old band! Being performed live this Fall, Joy Division's Closer and Unknown Pleasures will be performed by Peter Hook and The Light in select cities. You can catch Closer...

This may be weird, but I always think of concerts as a kind of consummation - like finally getting the chance to be alone with that special squeeze you've been sweatin' for a while. The relationship between you, a band, and a song are finally at the most intimate, whether you're in the corner of a bar or on the muddy fields of Glastonbury. And for all the time you've spent peeling away the layers of a track, analyzing every note, every word, every minute detail about down to the the last wavelength, in concert the pressure is now on [...]
Eric Klinger and Jason Mendelsohn take on Joy Division's Closer in this week's edition of Counterbalance. It's Number 41 on the Acclaimed Music list of the Greatest Albums of All Time. This is the way-step inside! Mendelsohn: I love the Great List if for no other reason than its complete lack of musical semblance. One minute we are rocking out to James Brown and the next we get pitched a curve ball of an album by Joy Division. I'd like to think I could step up to the plate and hit this one out of the park, [...]
She Wants Revenge revisit the 1980s, but create something for the 2010s.
Another great video from Jennifer Juniper Stratford for John Maus's track "Head For the Country". If you are in DC check him out at Black Cat on July 5. Go America!
