So we typically toss a video onto a post when highlighting a new band or a show preview or something and let you draw your own conclusion about it. Sometimes we throw a change-up... strike that - let's call it a round up. Most of these videos are of bands we have previously talked about here on Draw Us Lines, so we won't be telling you much about those bands themselves, just some musings that really aren't worth a damn. If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a video must be worth a million. Hold on to your hats! [...]

~ Joy Ike - "How She Floats" ~ From the album Rumors .
![[Single] "Sweeter", Joy Ike](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2663534_lg.jpg)
Confere e me diz se rola: Joy Ike - Sweeter [...]

Lots of great songs lately. This soulful, slightly off-kilter piano pop ballad is from Joy Ike's new sophomore album Rumors . Like most piano playing female singers, Joy has been compared to everyone from Regina Spektor to Norah Jones. But I think this song has more in common with John Legend and India.arie, with perhaps a dash of Sara Bareilles. Could I just copy the words to The Sun Also Rises, throw in some fresh adjectives and updated references and get it published as the remixed version? Honestly, I'm so tired of remixes. I go through my inbox and see remix after remix after remix. Are you serious? Make your own damned music if you're so talented. And not to be hateful, but I don't even care if you disagree. So, that said, here's what I found that wasn't just someone else's music with a couple of echo effects and a drum loop thrown in: While this [...]
Pittsburgh singer/songwriter, Joy Ike , is one of those neo-soul artists who stay true to the moniker. Her recently released sophomore album, Rumors , has been compared to the likes Norah Jones, Fiona Apple, and Regina Spektor . Her sound is the type that you would find on an iPod commercial, really upbeat, sweet, and has the right amount of pop. Sort of reminds me of Florence and the Machine. Maybe it's the piano parts in her single, "Sweeter" that's making me say that, but whatever it is, I'm feeling it. enjoY! [...]

It is easy to label an artist as soulful, but increasing difficult to find a real soul artist in today's music scene. Joy Ike is the needle in the haystack. Her recently released sophomore album, 'Rumors' , rises above the rest busting through with a soul sound that has drawn comparisons to Norah Jones, Fiona Apple , and Regina Spektor . Last year we blogged about our favorite Pittsburgh musicians and one of those on the list was neo-soul singer/songwriter Joy Ike. Now, she's earning praise beyond the confines of the city, as evidenced by a recent piece on NPR's All Things Considered. Joy Ike's latest album Rumors is released online today. Rumors is full of warm, charming songs that are beautifully recorded and beautifully performed. Joy's local CD release party takes place on Sunday at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts at 4 pm. She'll also be at the Three [...]

On Saturday, August 29th, Popwreckoning favorite Joy Ike will be playing at Ardmore (just outside of Philadelphia), Pennsylvania's Milkboy Coffee with Brooke Annibale and Joel Rakes . The show starts at 8PM and tickets are $8 in advance or $10 day of. Joy Ike - "City Lights" Ike released debut Good Morning last year to great acclaim. Fellow blog Wildy's World says, "Joy Ike is the real deal; a singer/songwriter with something to say and ample to talent [...]

I owe the world an apology. I've known about the beautiful song stylings of Pittsburgh's Joy Ike for just over a year, and I haven't shared it. Last weekend, Ike played at Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market , a nontraditional music venue, though she wasn't out of place amongst the other vendors. Nestled in between the food court's The Original Turkey and Tommy Dinic's Roast Pork and Beef sat Ike's Yahama keyboard, manned by Ike herself, and local accompanist Josh Cohen on rainstick and djembe, whom she found via Craigslist. [...]

Joy Ike 's new album "Good Morning" is a good album to get lost in. Its quiet ambition reaches in a gentle way, the songs weaving effortlessly without feeling forced or contrived. The piano hypnotic, the drums near perfect, the vocals neo-soul, it has layers and beauty in its acceptance of unorthodox melodies and progressions. It is like a warm blanket for the winter months fast approaching and has a depth which will carry you until spring. We took the opportunity to ask Joy five questions. Joy was nice enough to give five answers. [...]
