Juice Crew - The Symphony Well to kick off my first post running drop on a classic I racked my brains trying to think of what mind blowing bits of sampling greatness should I put forward, this proved to be hard as i was just over thinking the whole thing . So I've just gone with tracks that I love to listen to when I'm kickin old skool and I hope you will enjoying learning about as the 'Drop on a Classic' journey continues. So the Juice Crew brain child of legendary producer Marley Marl and [...]

Perhaps you've heard this already, but Christmas is on Friday. I hope you're ready. I got my annual watching of Christmas Vacation in last night, so I'm ready to get my Xmas on. And what better way to do that then with an Christmas-themed OSM? I thought I'd done one of these before, but a search of the hill turned up no such thing. Which makes sense, because if I had, I'd certainly have known there was a Juice Crew Xmas posse cut and that Audio Two's first single [...]

Despite their best efforts to have you believe otherwise, most M.C.s are probably normal people, with normal hobbies like you and I. Yep, I'm fairly sure that somewhere out there, the hardest of the hard are engaging in some very un-hip hop-like activity. Just imagine it... DMX in his slippers studying his pre-World War 2 stamp collection; Ghostface spending an evening on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and a sudoku puzzle; or 50 Cent working on a self help book (oh, hang on - that last one is true ). One hobby [...]
From Media Gasface : " In Canarsie, Brooklyn, Masta Ace is better known by the kids as Coach Ace. Almost all of them rap, but have no idea their head-coach is one of the best who ever did it. They'll get a pass, though: they weren't even born the day Marley Marl gave Ace a ticket into the legend by letting him in his mother's apartment in Queensbridge. Right here, the Masta finally tells the world how a guy from Brownsville ended up in the legendary Juice Crew , how he hooked [...]

I decided to drop some knowledge for those who need a quick lesson on some Hip-Hop ish. When I saw Shawn Ryan post the "Affirmative Action Remix," my first thought was Juice Crew's "Symphony." This possibly may be the best posse cut ever. It was the first Hip-Hop track to make the Otis Redding sample "Hard To Handle" popular. In addition, I also would like to drop my favorite version of "Affirmative Action" that I used to cut up everyday during blunted freestyle sessions. Enjoy and peep the OG Juice crew video! Marley Marl - [...]
Few occupations get as little respect as the female MC. That wasn't always the case. Women have rocked the mic since the early days of hip hop and were once as central to its story as their male counterparts. The new compilation Fly Girls! aims to balance the record by telling the story of the female MC.

Found in the inbox from the homie DJB , the same man who supplied the Quik rarities . Hey Gotty, I threw together a history of "The Symphony" concept/beat. I know it's been pretty exhausted over time, but if you'd like to make a Loosies post on it feel free to use this. I appreciate the shout out from Beware for the Quik joints! -Dylan Extra verbiage from DJB, giving some backstory on some of the tracks. - [...]

Remember when the internet was nothing more than a twinkle in Al Gore's shiftless robotic eye? Even though Will C was himself nothing more than some dude's eye twinkle in the 1980s, he knows all about having to search for media the hard way - trading cassette tapes with friends, calling in favors, recording radio shows on your moms stereo with 60 minute TDKs. And while today, almost any recording you're looking for is nothing more than a zShare search away - there is one aspect of the 80s hip hop early days that Will knew [...]
