A Happy Easter to you from all of us at Consequence of Sound. What was in your eggs? We bet they weren't full of great, new music. Lucky for you, we got you covered... Adam Green - "Morning after Midnight" Jukebox the Ghost - "Hold it In" LCD Soundsystem - "Big Ideas" These New Puritans - "Numerology aka Numbers" Tokyo [...]

credit Find a way to leave work early. It's a sunset special (6:30 show!) at the Barbary in Philly Thursday featuring D.C. based and one of our friends, Le Loup . Also on the bill, all the way from New Zealand, The Ruby Suns , featuring members of the Brunettes and Philly's own The Private Sea . And even though you don't see their name on the bill, Jukebox the Ghost IS playing. I'll be hustling to get there. Save me a spot. [...]

Ben, Tommy and Jesse are loading up the van again, this time for a long road trip from the friendly confines of the I-95 corridor. But before unleashing their music upon Texas, they hit the IA area for a string of shows. Also along for the brief ride is Modern Skirts (you can catch them down SXSW way as well), hailing from the music mecca of Athens, Georgia. As an added bonus, each of the three stops features some local acts. Catch Beatles-esque Drink Up Buttercup in Philly (I'll be at this show, stop by [...]

Friday is here at last and it brings a load of awesome acts. Here in Baltimore the Metro Gallery has a great show lined up with Panda Riot and Screen Vinyl Image. In DC, Sia plays the 9 :30 club with Har Mar Superstar, and The Epochs play DC9 with Tigercirty. Finally in Philly you can check out Lightspeed Champion at the World Cafe Live or Drink Up Buttercup, Jukebox The Ghost, The Moneynotes, The modern Skirts, and Madi Diaz at The Khyber . mp3: Sia [...]

I'll be hopping down to Austin in less than a week for my first SXSW experience and I couldn't be more excited. I've done three years of CMJ but this will be, ya know, warm. I'll be spending part of the weekend trying to figure out what parties I can get into (I don't have a badge or a wristband) and who I want to see and while I have a feeling that at some point I'll just say "fuck it, I'm just gonna go with the flow" I know where I'll be on Thursday afternoon. One of [...]
After struggling through our Best Of 2007 posts, Joe and I decided to start a new feature. At the end of every month, we are going to recap some of the musical highlights of the month that was. Videos, albums, remixes... this will help you find anything that you may have missed. Plus it will really come in handy in December, when we have to go back through the year. Since February is already half over, let's get cracking... January was a great month for regional releases. There was not a huge quantity of them, but [...]

There's a couple of SXSW shows that feature bands that we enjoy greatly at Pasta Primavera. If you're heading out that way in March, be sure to check out Georgie James, Le Loup, Pash, Middle Distance Runner, These United States, Carol Bui, Jukebox The Ghost, and Exit Clov at the Cream Vintage Store on the 13th. The address is 2532 Guadalupe Street. Another band that we adore playing SXSW is Ravens & Chimes. They hit the SXSW day stage on the 13th and a showcase at Club Deville on the 14th. If you catch either [...]

Jukebox The Ghost's Let Live and Let Ghosts full-length debut is lyrically smart piano pop, with equally compelling vocals. This three-piece outfit of piano/keys /, guitar and drums blend catchy hooks with over the top bounce. While the compositional shape of the music holds comparisons to Queen it has an original sensibility. Ben Thornwell's piano/keys is the standout that combines classical vignettes, show tune swagger, dance punk edginess and pop / rock styling. In the mix is Tommy Siegel's funk guitar grooves and Jesse Kristin's [...]

It was just under a year ago that I first saw Jukebox The Ghost in the flesh at NYC's Pianos. On that evening, they performed to roughly two dozen ardent attendees with poise, precision and passion. Fast-forward to last night's sold out gig at Brooklyn's Union Hall and it's painfully obvious to see that JTG's journey has translated into a bona fide indie success story. The DC-based trio has garnered a healthy (and spry) fanbase thanks to a bevy of blog love, repeated plays on WOXY and ridiculously positive word of mouth. It's rare that I [...]

Wow, so this is a strange weekend. There is a huge line-up in Philly and it is sort of quiet elsewhere. That said, there is plenty to choose from and pretty much everyone can find something that interests them. Friday I will be at Milkboy Coffee in Ardmore with Jukebox The Ghost , but if you must go elsewhere, here's what to check out: - Cat Power / Appaloosa @ Starlight Ballroom SOLD OUT! - The Major Leagues / Wild Sweet Orange @ [...]
Who: Jukebox the Ghost Title: Let Live and Let Ghost Release Date: Technically it's out already, but the NY release party is Saturday Label: None Thoughts: It's been a long time coming, but finally we have ourselves the debut LP from Jukebox the Ghost. I think Ben told me it was done sometime in September in last year, and forgive my impatience but I was getting a little tired of waiting for the

Wow, I don't know what to say about the quality of this week's list of music. I would say it's amazing, but I don't think that encapsulates the staggering amount of great music ready to travel to your ears. I think you will just have to listen to it to try and understand how good this batch really is. I don't have a pick for this week, I have five . Luckily they are all different types of music, so I don't feel bad about not being picky enough. First we have our favorite Afro-pop group, Vampire [...]

I mean... really now ... Hi everyone! Did you miss me? I hope you did, at least as much as I missed having something worth blogging about. Guess I'm just not into what seems to be the latest trend of liking everything and regurgitating the same mp3 links all over the blogosphere. I just don't see the fun in it, and my brain just hasn't been spontaneously exploding over anything I"ve listened to that I haven't blogged about 39w837589237525 times already, so I've been quiet, sifting thru the inter-nerd trying to find something to fall in [...]

The Black Cat in Washington DC played host to the sold out CD release party for Jukebox the Ghost.......What's that? ....... You didn't expect this show to sell out? Well, apparently no one did, including the bands. The large crowd slowed entry to a crawl, causing many people, including myself, to miss most of opening act, Pash. But there would still be no shortage of awesomeness this evening. Bellman Barker took the stage, in all their unique glory. They powered through an energetic set that included much of their EP, Anise & [...]

Strap on your dancing shoes because there's some serious concert goin' action tonight. In Philly, An American Chinese light up the Fire with Young Gene Buffalo, Slippery Coup, and Bee Team. Over at the Starlight Ballroom you can see an amazing show in Super Furry Animals and Holy Fuck. Finally in DC, I'll be at the kick butt show of the night! Jukebox the Ghost has their CD Release show at the Black Cat along with Bellman Barker and Pash. Don't miss it! mp3: An American [...]

Jukebox The Ghost is releasing Let Live and Let Ghosts tomorrow night at Black Cat . Yesterday, we caught up with Ben and Tommy and talked about the album, their touring and their infamous fansite. IA: 2007 was a crazy year for you. You released your debut EP, graduated college and spent the majority of the fall on the road. Recently, you've had a little time off from the road. How has that been? TOMMY: Still quite crazy, actually. Work, scattered shows, and family visits [...]
The Good: British Sea Power - "Waving Flags"; This is the sound of arena rock in the year 2008! This song is powerful, bold, catchy, and anthemic, it is awesome in so many ways it's hard to describe. Malice (of Clipse) - "Cry Now Freestyle"; This is super short, but pretty much anything from Clipse will get my heart beating a little faster. The Rosebuds - "Push It" (Salt-N-Peppa cover); First
Definitely one of the best I've heard (and I basically listen to them all). Fantastic job boys, and the wonderful WOXY . Watch the really frickin' cool video, and download the whole thing while you are at it! Catch Jukebox The Ghost at Union Hall February 9 with Mason Proper . I'll be djing! (And not smoking). woxy.com presents Jukebox the Ghost from Soft City [...]
Over the past few days, I have had a build up of videos and special performances to share from various regional artists. I figured that I would take a few minutes and share all of them at once. DC and Philly favorites Jukebox The Ghost recorded a lounge act for WOXY last week and the entire thing is available for download. They gave an interview and performed a set of: "Victoria" "Good Day" End Of The World trilogy : "Fire In The [...]
