You can stream all the songs in this mix using the Yahoo media player at the bottom of the page OR if you are browsing with Chrome you can play (and scrobble ) the whole page using the ex.fm extension OR [...]
Kathleen Hanna ( Bikini Kill , Le Tigre) has unveiled a (sort of) new band dubbed The Julie Ruin . The group, which also features former Bikini Kill bandmate Kathi Wilcox, was originally conceived as a lo-fi solo project by Hanna, and she released a self-titled album under the moniker in 1998 via Kill Rock Stars . Now a five-piece, the Julie Ruin are currently recording a new album, with CNN (of all places) reporting that it's been tapped for a January release. A live clip of the band performing [...]

Iconic punk/riot grrrl singer Kathleen Hanna is set to finally get her due with a new documentary in the works, currently dubbed The Kathleen Hanna Project a.k.a Who Told You Christmas Wasn't Cool? . Prefix reports , however, that while director Sini Anderson hopes to finish the film in time for next fall's festival circuit, more money needs to be raised in order to ensure the production is completed by the summer. Enter the Bikini Kill single-citing benefit "Rah! Rah! Replica," a concert at Brooklyn's Knitting Factory on December 11 to raise [...]

I really didn't know what to say to Kathleen Hanna when I found myself at a party with her last month. Let's face it, I just feel kind of weird about talking to random people I don't know, especially when they're famous in some way. It all seems kind of silly but in a way, it would have been so much easier to be at a party with Madonna or Harrison Ford than fucking KATHLEEN HANNA! What do you say to someone who arguably defined and championed a new union of feminism and art, [...]

COT DAMN! Here's what I was talking about yesterday, the Twit-vid will probably be of this new M.I.A. track called 'Born Free' which you may already have experienced live: Big props to TheProphetBlog for the upload! Wow! Not what I expected, at all! But I like it, sounds like early riot grrrl to me. You know, Bikini Kill around 1991-92 or Kathleen Hanna's solo-project some years later called Julie Ruin. It's like she embodies the pure essence of 'Rebel Girl' [...]

We reported a few weeks ago that the former publicist of the influential '90s band Bikini Kill had created a new blog to help serious fans compare stories about getting into the band for the first time. The blog has a little more than a hundred entries as of today, which objectively might be a letdown but is probably relatively exciting to really hardcore BK fans. Meanwhile, Kathleen Hanna , the woman behind the band (as well as lo-fi solo project Julie Ruin and the [...]

"I would like to apologize to the fine people at Arby's for implying that this conversation could take place at an Arby's." - Tom, relieving the fast foodery of the responsibility for hosting the Spike/Julie summit " Please stick around ... please stick around." - Brad in Newbridge, begging the Foo Fighters to remain active "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know I was talking to Bryant Gumball or Keith Olderman." -- Brad, comparing Tom to the television journalists for suggesting that he should know the names of all four Foos [...]
